    ^ that's a good album.. Not amazing therefore people will say it's bad. By the late 90's Nu Metal was taking over. I don't think Guns would have been able to stop that from happening in fact the Song Oh My God is Axis version of Nu Metal

    Didn't Axl have a lot of left over songs recorded for Chinese Democracy though? I may be wrong but I thought I heard he was working on and recorded stuff for songs for two or three albums during those years. But he was constantly reworking songs so he only actually finished the tracks for the Chinese Democracy album we got. But that would mean there should be vocal recordings by Axl for multiple songs if it's correct. Please correct me if that not the case 🍻

  • @TWHueyGuitar
    @TWHueyGuitar4 жыл бұрын

    It's not a big mystery of what happened, Axl wanted to take the sound to a NIN meets Queen place, and Slash wanted to keep it hard rock. If you search you'll find the interviews when they both clearly state their intent for the next record. Plus, Axl was all about "burying" AFD. Axl's wanting to continue to evolve was there from the get-go (look up those UYI interviews). There may have been ways to keep Slash in the fold, but tempers flare. I wish I had a copy of the interview where Axl thought some of the riffs on Slash's first Snakepit album were supposed to be for the next GNR record. As for Duff and Matt, the Neurotic Outsiders album is a blast (a very overlooked gem). It's likely that after Slash left, Duff and Matt felt regulated to the sidelines, and probably got tired of waiting to make an album (regardless of what it would sound like). Especially after wanting to tour clubs with the Neurotic Outsiders in the US in support of such a killer record.

    Chinese Mediocracy , it was like a time capsule from different years in the 1990’s with music genres that had died out.That initial riff for the song Chinese Democracy gave me chills and then the album becomes overblown.The story behind the album and the many producers (Moby for one)is more interesting. Then throw in the offspring hoping to use the name Chinese Democracy and the doctor pepper stuff. Remember when they released “oh my god” it sounded like 90’s NIN. People were gearing up for the release of Chinese Democracy and then nothing.It was a colossal letdown. Imagine if guns had released the songs that Velvet revolver released, those riffs could have been used for G”n”R.

    I believe the real issue was they couldn't top what they did in the past. So changing their musical style makes good sense. Staying off the drugs couldn't hurt also. If they were really serious about it, they would do one album with Axl calling the shots, and the next with Slash calling the shots. Easy enough to compare the album sales, concert showings, radio charts.

    The only time I heard Axl talking about his mother was in the 90s, onstage somewhere, and he seemed quite dismissive. Never was he pictured with her once he came to LA, or after he started GNR, or during his fame, in the 90s and forward. He regards Beta his life and that is in a video that's still on KZread. Beta brought her entire family into his life as his management and his family. Her daughter, her sons and her brother. She replaced his entire management with all her family members. She is his manager and as she claims, the mother he never had, her daughter works for him, her son in his management too, her other son as his body guard and her brother as his driver. Beta was Stephanie Seymour's former nanny who lived with her in Axl's house when they were engaged. Stephanie fired her and then she asked Axl to give her a job. Rumors have it that it was her who went to Axl and told him that Stephanie was cheating on him, securing her place into Axl's grace. Axl's biological sister was present into his life in the 80s running his fan club, but now his fan club and web site are ran by Beta and her family calling themselves team Brazil.

    It's a shame that they forgot that the friction and tension led to that amazing music they made in the first place, and that they couldn't get around it. Slash's solo stuff with Myles is ok, but that's the problem, it's just ok. The first VR album was full of aggression and was really cool because it didn't hark back to the 80's which would have been really easy, it was very modern. The second VR record was just tame. I personally don't think there'll be a new GnR album. Or at least I've not got my hopes up.

    Appetite was written by a group of people trying to make it and make something different even when they were on drink and drugs they all worked for the same thing "the band". Lies was a compelation of the leftovers pushed with the EP. UYI they struggled to get together to make it but eventually got it together and somehow got the album out despite not being on the same page as each other. Steve was fired when a lot of the material was already written and some was being recorded. TSI Izzy had left during the touring that followed the double album and much of the recording had come during the UYI sessions with bits rerecorded after izzy left. So somehow GNR recorded almost 3 albums of material when they were hardly spending time together outside of touring but still working as a touring band and mostly living a life of excess. Then Duff gets a solo album and tours before having to overcome a major drink and drugs related health issue. Leaving the rest of GNR who were not touring to do their own thing. Looking like very little got accomplished between then and when Slash, Duff and Matt left. Appart from interview with a Vampire cover song of Sympathy for the Devil. Then you have a lot of studio tinkering before GNR became a touring band and finally release CD. I think that GNR always worked best under presure. Like to succeed in the early years or reach the album deadline for UYI. Not much pressure for them now. Might see a new album if they are all in on producing and recording one. Might never see one. Touring will likely start again before one drops.

    @@sealevelbear Fair point, but slash has said that of those sessions and years, even when he tried to put forth an effort that it didnt ever seem like Axl wanted to work on anything. And as much as Im sure it wasnt 100% as simple as Axl just being a control freak, although it honestly could be, almost every in depth account of guns n roses in books or in interviews the people working with and who were around the band say Axl was most likely bi polar, manic depressive or a combination of something. So as anyone whos ever dealt with someone like that knows its incredibly difficult. And outside of being in the middle of a smack addiction which slash hadnt been in for years at this point, he was always a functioning alcoholic so I doubt it affected or was a reason for anything not being accomplished during this period.

    @Anderson Cooper Why is that the criteria for leading a band? Band dynamics are far more complicated than who writes the songs. If you think Slash is so great, why doesn’t he go back to being a solo act? Or make another Velvet Revolver album? It is because Axl is special, and he knows it, this is why he came back eventually. Slash writes great melodic riffs, but besides that he is not the end all be all guitarist.

    Chinese Democracy is an Axl Rose album not a GNR album. The only time they will have another successful GNR album is when they will bring Izzy back. He was the most inportant creative tool of GNR. This is why they are reluctant to come with a new album in 32 years. It will not sound like GNR without Izzy. It will be perhaps a good album like Chinese Democracy but not a great GNR album. They need to put their egoes aside and bring Izzy back, which I doubt it. And that's because they all have to behave towards him as he does not take any crap from any of them, especially Axl. He won't roll over like Slash and Duff as they did in 2016, even if that meant making millions of dollars annually which they milk it since 2016 with the Not In This Lifetime tour. Izzy did come back once and gave it a try a number of years ago, but left during the sound check and rehearsal, as Axl started being Axl again with his shenanigans, being dismissive. Izzy did not tolerate that and left again. GNR is not the same and will never be the same without Izzy. The best they can do is to keep recycling the only two original GNR albums they made 32 years ago, touring, and making millions every year. It works.
