Met Matt at a big party in the 90’s in Toronto, we moved to the music room and talked drums for at least 2 hours. This guys a pro an his passion for the drums evident. I became a fan of him even if I wasn’t a fan of the bands. He is a super nice guy

This guy has been the reason i learned to play consistent and solid. His feel is impeccable but also he hits so consistent. Ive been mimicking him since the use your illusion albums. 10 years old. God bless this legend!

Girl on steroids
Matts performance on the "burning for buddy" v1 was my favourite performance out of all the great drummers.
I never thought I would hear Mr. Sorum mention Chris Layton (SRV + Double Trouble) in an interview, but there it is. Mr. Sorum's playing with Mr. Billy F. Gibbons was inspiring...simple....pocket...swing I grew up on rock, blues, jazz, classical etc. The current state of music, is well....not good. We need to bring back the groove, the funk, the blues. Mr. Sorum is bringing it!!!!!

Chris Layton and many other great drummers go largely unrecognized because all anyone ever wants to talk about are the drummers that are known for solos and show. Chris Layton was a mule pulling the cart and holding it all down and thats what a drummer is supposed to do
Watching this reminds me of his play for the Buddy Rich tribute in the 90s. It was epic to see him playing with ahead drumsticks with a brass band which I really loved actually.
Enjoyed this video! Loved the references and each band knowledge.
I've seen a fair amount of his vids over the last few years and he seems like the coolest, most down to earth guy.
That was very precise and instructiveMatt. I always appreciated your drumming.
Good to see you on another good gig Matt! You are a great drummer! You deserve it! Thx for this ! Mr. Tom 🥁😎 the gretsch’s sound real good!!!
Dude has the feel down. Legend
Great video! I learned a lot. Thank you for making this!
Great passion and knowledge from the legend himself, cheers 🍻
Fantastic Matt!! I play a few shuffles with my band The Blue City Bombers from Greensboro. Great interview!
Matt, what a legend. Never take those shades off and never miss a hit. Perfect match for Mr Gibbons
Matt is the man, for any band in the world, I want to hear now you could be mine intro YHEEEI!!!
The One & Only One Matt Sorum , love & hugs from Paris , France ! You are the best , YES you are !
I have a lot of time for Matt. Obviously he has the ability, but it is his dedication to the craft that is always at the top of his list. He always delivers and dominates his kit.
This guy is so cool while being a true pro. That s great
This is homework I don’t mind being assigned, lol. Reverb videos are a constant source of great learning for me, even in my old age, lol.
Matt has been in 3 of my favorite bands,❤️
I'm a SHUFFLEHOLIC!!!!!! I really really really love playin' em, listening to em' and talking about em'!!!!
Now that's a good kick-drum sound!
Thanks Matt, awesome 🥁👍🔥
Looking great! 👍
Very entertaining...and informative!
A real traditional blues shuffle is one of the hardest feeling grooves for drummers. Lots of drummers can play one chops wise, but few have bothered to listen to Fred Below, SP Leary, Ted Harvey, etc.

Everyday I Have the Blues mad respect for Fred Below reference.
Great insight. The lad knows his stuff for sure. Seems an easy bloke as well.
I’m from Memphis and play with some old blues heads. Shuffling seems easy but there is an art to it.
Silver sparkle kit is Super.- Hey y'all check out This Time It's Real a 1973 Tower of Power shuffle big band classic tune with David Garibaldi.
I saw these guys at the Iridium in nyc...and they sounded great, Matt especially Zildjian & Gretsch are some of the best, nice gear man. That snare is a beauty.

Monster player A+ Matt!
Nice work
Good old Matt, knew he wouldn't let a drum demonstration video go by without a couple of licks from the GNRs solo!
GNR should’ve at least got him instead of Frank on drums if they’re hellbent on not getting Stevie ..

Where was this guy the night Tre Cool was conceived? 🤔
J’aime beaucoup matt sorum, il a vraiment du style
my favourite drumer matt sorum cool
Legend.
My drum hero!!!
Marching band kids are awesome kids
Very new to blues dancing but the Texas shuffle and the swing element is interesting as you are used to hearing the shuffle but don't really think how it's done from a musician's point of view
Rock of Ages. awesome cowbell intro
yeah that shuffle is to me IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! GOOD STUFF...
He knows exactly what he‘s talking about!
Matt Sorum. Professional shuffler
It's really sunny inside
great sounding kit. - Chip Barkhouse The Drummist

He's the Dick Clark of the drumming world apparently. ;-0
Love a great shuffle. Spud (John Coghlan) being my favorite shuffle King. Matt should try to play fourth notes on the ride to make it swing more and make it more of a real Texas shuffle.
Awesome.
Nice tuning for the style.
3:45 it's about to go down guys take cover!!🤯
Ojalá llegar a los 58 años como Matt...
legend
Did Matt just say “cymbal as that”
Sounds like a blues march to me. ;-)
Back to Guns N' Roses..
😎👍Matt!!!
Kit sounds nice and beefy.
Come to Vancouver. I can help you out with that shuffle.
This guy! x
You guys have to fix the website. It seems like every single guitar I look at it says “Act fast! One other person has this in their cart” shopping for an instrument online or in store is supposed to be a fun thing, and hopefully you get something you can bond and connect with. I’m reluctant to watch, let alone make offers on guitars already in someone else’s cart because why would the seller even entertain an offer if someone is willing to pay full price, that also sucks for me as a seller because I’m sure a potential buyer would feel the same way and not even bother making an offer if they see it’s already in someone else’s cart. Not only that, but there is literally a picture of a watch, it gives a hurry up and buy feel. I don’t want to be rushed into buying something because somebody saw a halfway decent deal at the listed price and isn’t satisfied with just watching it, they have to add it to their cart for later. Either buy it or watch it. Please find a way to fix this.
Cool Drummer.... Matt needs to do another record with Neurotic Outsiders, a punk-rock record !
the Texas shuffle is fun to play for 5 minutes

@Tom Johnson It is a bit grueling due to boredom of repitition.
Listen to it on 0.5 speed and you'll hear early 90s Slash talking.
You should be interviewed by Neil Lafortune on his Gretsch afternoon drum break.....contact him.. he'd love it.
Please, call to slash n' come back with guns n' roses..
Matt looks better than everyone from GNR.
MATT IS IN OK PLAYING TEXAS BLUES AND THE REV.. BILLY C..
But does he always have to play the same damn fills?
Matt get older- YES! But he got wiser too!
3:52 Tokyo drum solo :)
I don't know guys...I REALLY like Matt's playing and his personality - and god knows I'm not qualified to criticize an industry giant like him - but I'm not at all sold on his shuffle. It sounds exactly like what it is: a predominately-rock drummer doing a pretty good impression of a really good shuffle player. It's just a bit square, lacking the *SWING* that hard-core shuffle players just do naturally. Chris Layton wrote the book on white guys doing the TS, and Greg Bissonette does as good a copy as I've heard. Of course Layton spent a career shuffling behind SRV, and Bissonette has a heavy jazz/swing background, so i guess it makes perfect sense.

This! He doesn't seem to have a handle on the nuance that makes the Texas shuffle distinct - it swings, but sharply - like almost dotted-eighth sixteenth on each beat. Yes, the hands double that figure, four on the floor often, but it's that sharp swing that drives the whole thing. Play it too round and triplety and it sounds...well like a rock drummer trying to pass off like Texas blues drummer.
He looks 20 years younger 👍

Part of the drum solo he used to play with GNR in early 90. Easy recognizable.
his voice sound a little like Hank Azaria voice lol

Naw he isn't white (or should I say pale) or tall enough.
Hes turned into a older scott weiland
And he played that cross stick tom fill with a tight leather jacket on...bad...ass
Never liked Matt's plasticy sound when he joined GnR... Steve had that bigass Bonham like drumkit, deep and profound sound.

It’s all in the way they’re mixed. I think Price was uneven at times with his UYI mix for Sorum. Particularly with the snare and toms, alternating between too light (snare) and too heavy (toms). Although, in Bill’s defence, I think Sorum made some poor snare decisions on much of UYI that didn’t add to the songs at all. By contrast, Thompson and Barbiero kept everything level throughout AFD, and even gave special attention to the ride. Which, oddly, no one ever really mentions as much as they do the cowbell. They mic’d Adler absolutely perfect for that album, and managed to mask his limitations in the process. Sorum doesn’t have any limitations as a drummer, but, really didn’t finally put it all together sonically until Contraband.
He had to fight for his life with Motörhead, it was almost too heavy for him.
How The hell he is Younger than 90's?
blue oyster cult cowbell more cowbell man
Ringo was doing all this long before this guy was borne.
take the tape off the toms
