at least he could....for studio recordings iam sure he still can do a lot, live depends....some years are good some not. But if you listen to shaklers Revenge from years ago for example. he did some deep deep vocals and high screeming ones in the live version that were done in the times when bumblefoot and ashba were around.

This really is one of the best Gn'r songs. and in my top three also. I heard this song first time when Use your illusion I & II albums came out. My brother bought them as c-cassettes. Those were the days...

Killer guitar melody..slash

My dad showed me this song when i was around 15. He took his life when i was 17. Im 28 now. This song among many others makes me think of him. One of my favorite tunes.

One of the greatest rock songs of all time right here. So glad I was there for it in release. This is pinnacle rock and roll masterwork.

My favorite GNR song, this song got a special place for me, as i listened to it when i though of suicide on repeat, everytime i hear it i break out in tears because of what it meant back then to me.. well im still here, i guess many have been there a moment of their life..

I have long-term depression and that's probably why the song is so important to me as well. It's the best song about depression I've ever heard, and the best depiction of it (esp throwing back the life preserver).

Axl is using his real voice here, without the added harshness (which comes in on the last part).

Axl doesn't always scream Or add distortion to his vocals And he has a very low deep voice when he sings from his diaphragm instead of his head

THE BEST track IMO by them by far

The stadium tour footage for Guns N' Roses was filmed on their 1992 tour w/ Metallica. Guns singer Axl Rose had broken up w/ his fiancee model Stephanie Seymour (who appeared in the videos for "Don't cry" and 'November rain') and she was absent from the 3rd video 'Estranged' that was released in 1993. Slash (lead guitar) is a blues-based guitar player, so his style is very prominent on this epic track... Izzy Stradlin played rhythm guitar but did not appear in the music video (Guitarist Gilby Clarke was filmed w/ the band) Axl Rose wrote 'Estranged' about the end of a relationship w/ a girl... more than likely about his wife Erin Everly w/ whom he split from in 1990. Many Guns N' Roses insiders recalled that Axl Rose was blowing million$ on these music videos ('November rain' cos $1.5 Million to make) and the band on tour was blowing all their profit$ on backstage parties and lavish expenditures... Guns N' Roses seemed "bloated" on their 1991 to 1993 tour for the 2 'Use your illusion' albums... They felt that Guns N' Roses were supposed to be a tough rock n' roll band from the streets of Hollywood... and here they were in 1993 filming on an aircraft carrier w/ their lead singer swimming w/ dolphins... riding limos... It was surreal. Guns N' Roses ended the 'illusion' tour in 1993 and released a covers album 'The spaghetti incident?' ... hoping to work on new music in 1994. But what was left of the band imploded by 1996... Guitarist Gilby Clarke was out in '94... Slash was fired in 1996 and both Duff McKagan (bass) and Matt Sorum (drums) were out as well. Singer Axl Rose promised to bring back Guns N' Roses... but nothing happened as the years went by.

@@cardona9448 Jacko, I was around when the news hit that Axl had fired Slash from Guns N' Roses in 1996. MTV got notice by fax from Axl that Slash was out of GNR ... and when they contacted Slash, his initial response was, "What?!" Soon after, he sent his own fax to MTV stating that he had parted ways w/ GNR. Laugh it up, Jacko... how little u know.

I would agree with anyone who says this is Guns N’ Roses best song. It is an absolute masterpiece. The only problem is the song Civil War exist, which to me is their best song.

Darn, time flies, I remember LOVING this double album shortly after we got back from DESERT STORM, that was 30+ years ago 😳 😮😂

The trilogy, the songs/lyrics, the instruments and the video is simply amazing, pure art and the trilogy is a masterpiece. Glad to see your reaction to this having enjoyed it as much. It tears me up sometimes listening to how incredibly unique Axl's voice was at his prime and how lucky we were to have enjoyed that because even if they're still touring it's not the same, sadly, still awesome seeing them rock out to the classic tunes but that voice.... it was legendary

Estranged is one of the greats. Had a mate who hates Guns N Roses played him this song and said... " I can't believe this is Guns N Roses " for he thought it kicked ass.

Masterpiece

So many epics on these double albums. This MUSICALLY is my favorite on the album. I lined up to buy it on release in 1991 if memory serves.....and still listen to it this day start to finish....

MEaning the olympic games were there in 72 the video is from the 90s! Today concerts and athletics events are held there before it has been home to FC Bayern Munich football club but they went to some more modern place more than ten years ago.

Absolutely the best song of GNR. I haven't thought but agree that you said of simple structure. The strength of this song among GNR looks a good melody line, which let Axl and Slash shine more. ...... However, you should've waited until the last drum(Feel it again).
