Guns as a way of life in Wyoming
In the wide-open spaces of the American West, guns are woven into the tapestry of life in ways city-dwellers may not understand. Ted Koppel visits the town of Cody, Wyoming, to find out how, for the majority of families, guns are inseparable from a way of life.

Ted, thank you. I appreciate that you have done a news report that takes a calm rational look at how responsible and caring gun owners conduct themselves. These kids have parents that are involved in their lives and that will give them lessons that can't be measured. I too appreciate that you incorporated the element of hunting as conservation. After all, the Pittman-Robertson act, and associated taxes on guns, was established by hunters. Again, thank you.

It's a big *empty* state is what it is. There's more than 14 times as many people in New York city than in that entire state. But maybe that's why it's nice. Us humans tend to fuck things up, so any place that doesn't have humans, or has very little humans, usually stays pretty nice.

I live here. And have never felt unsafe. I can go for a walk or run at 3 am, and don't worry about it. I also don't have to worry about someone breaking into my home because you have to be a special sort of stupid to go and try and rob someone here. Plenty of people leave their cars and doors unlocked even. Sure there can be drug problems but even they mostly know to not go messing with people and most will just mind there own business. If I could just make a wish it would be that everyone in the free world was armed and respected their right to self defense as much as we do out here. And I know if more people exercised their right to be armed and learned how to operate a gun and respect it and teach children how to be safe around guns like out here and not as weapons but as tools, that it's best use is to never need to be used. If all this happened violent crime would become almost a non issue. People don't pick on people there own size nearly as much and guns make everyone the same size. A 90 year old women can be just as deadly as a 200 pound man. The answer to reducing crime is not to make everyone weaker, but rather to make people stronger and more capable of defense.

Now that is proper firearm education!!! That is the same way that I was raised about firearms!!!! Wyoming is and always will be beautiful country!!! When I used to drive over the road I never ever met an unfriendly person in that state!!!! And they showed you RESPECT even though they never even met you until that day!!!!
God Bless the great state of Wyoming! The people there respect and appreciate firearms the way other states should. Half the crime rate of other states and twice the liberty. A true model for the rest of the United States.
It looks really nice in the summer time.. But in the cold season, I prefer South Texas.. :) I was shooting a .22 rifle at the age of five. The most important part of my firearm safety training was seeing the effects of .22 rim fire bullets on small game. You only need go hunting a few times and you realize firearms aren't toys. They give a person the ability to kill. The gun is in same category of tool/weapon as the stone tipped spear. It is just the modern version of the spear. For those who think children of such a young age can't learn to be responsible with weapons, think about how a 5 or 6 year old child knows enough, not to stick a sharp pencil in a baby's eye?

duce wags I like where you are going with that. If a state violates the Constitution, like CA has, they should be ejected from the union. Cut off all ties except to send ammo to those that are willing to take their state back from the idiots. Of course I say that tongue in cheek, but there really needs to be a drawdown of law breaking. And violating the Constitution is just that.
Teach them young and they will be much more safer than most folks. I love Wyoming, except in the winter because it makes trucking harder.

@TheCharleseye

@@robertpreskop4425 In other words, you can't expect people in Liberal-run cities to behave morally and respect human life. I agree. People who have come to believe that the government owes them a living and that it's okay to take things from others to make their own lives better are _never_ going to act like _actual_ adults (or even like the children in this video). A bunch of toddlers, throwing a fit and hurting people when they don't get their way. That about sums it up. Maybe it's time for them to grow up and join the rest of us.

What you think about guns depends on were you live in the u.s ..in Wyoming guns mean history heritage and a way of life. A good life... but in our big and small crime filled urban city's is the u.s east coast.. west coast ... they mean another mother has lost a young child.. to gang violence.... and you don't get that child back. All depends on were you live.

I believe its Important to recognise the difference between bad people doing bad things with them, and Good people who have them as a means of Self defence, I'm English, Its only the Gangs who have them here, Shootings still happen, and Guns still get found, yet despite my nation Outlawing them, I as an individual view them positively because I know, I would only have one for the right reasons... and I know I can handle them safely as I shot them when I was in the United States, It was a great experience and not something I am able to do once a week here unfortunately, what bad people do is on their back, but those of us who are law abiding should not be left defenceless and at the mercy of evil people, Its a good thing to be able to bare arms.
I’m surprise to see Ted Kopel doin the interview. I miss him on ABC Nightline
At 7 a young boy in Wyoming started learning to shoot a gun, get good grades and stay away from drugs. Meanwhile in California a 7 year old boy is trying on dresses and getting ready for a dose of hormones to change his gender with approval from his 2 dads. Thank god there is a place of sanity left in this country.
Outstanding!
"This is the view from Cody Wyoming." It's also the view that best matches that of the Founders of the nation as the signed the 2nd Amendment.
Guns are great, and so is Wyoming.

This is what gun ownership is all about. Great Americans in this video teaching the next generation to love and respect the country they are born to represent.
CBS Sunday morning should make another gun debate before Election day 2016
See the American liberal - progressive - Democrat cannot fathom , perceive , understand the logic of teaching children moral fortitude , respect of life , gun safety starting at a age in which most of these liberal types never progress past , 5yo . This is what America should be like , i suspect in the free states it is . I know that here in Appalachia it is . See Ted you left out some very important deciding factors as to why this part of the country doesn't have the rancid violence that we see in the big cities . Gangs , massive inflow of drug problems , homelessness , laziness , entitled-ness , and the most important perhaps these country folk , id bet my last dollar are God fearing\ loving people . My guess when you work as hard as these folks do , you to tired to get in to trouble , do drugs or what have you , maybe a shot or 2 of some of Kentucky's finest . This story warms the heart , the young lad Dillan is a model teen-ager who already has more sense than most city dwellers period . May God bless yall .
