I love this kid. In so many ways, he's the anti-Conor. But you can also tell they train together - a lot of the same style in there. Especially that straight left from the traditional stance. The way he moves it like a cobra before snapping it over the guard. He looks bigger tonight than we've seen him too. Hope to see a lot more of Gunnar in the big fights to come.

nw2142 wi Gunny didn't come from kickboxing. Again Karate has very different methods than say kickboxing. Think of a sniper rifle vs a shotgun.

That's nuts. When I first started boxing I couldn't really punch properly, obviously and I hurt my hand and wrist on the first day. After that when I began to hit really hard I was already wearing hand wraps. I took them off one day and hit the bag as I normally do and... I almost broke my hand and wrist. Nelson beat Thatch with 2 punches. That tells you how hard this gut hits, and then to not even be wearing hand wrap...WTF!! Gunni's and G

I'm sure he misses the protection aspect of hand wraps. But his main tool is his grappling and it is limited by them. He can slide his hands under the neck better without them on.

+irish rover Welterweight is much more serious category than featherweight, 10 times much more serious. And second, even in featherweight conor is not a true champ, because there is a Frankie Edgar. OMG i remember, even weak fighter Nate diaz beat Conor.So yes, he is complete nobody, compare to Gunnar of course

You can see similarities between Gunnys and McGregors styles but there are significant differences too. It's a by product of training together so much. They're both great at what they do too so it can only be a good thing really. Gunny is starting to sound Irish too!! lol.

you can see Conor in Gunnars striking and movement, i think the 2 training together has been beneficial for Gunnar now lets see if grappling with Gunnar has helped Conors ground game. Either way it was a great victory and all Gunnar on the ground really happy he gets back in the rankings and excited to see his next fight

Conor's ground game is better than people give it credit. Yes, he was submitted by Diaz, and yes he still needs improvement. But what a lot of people don't take into consideration is the fact Conor was pretty well exhausted by that point in the fight, and that Diaz also had him rocked. Like I said, Conor still needs to improve, but he's no slouch and his loss to Diaz will undoubtedly light a fire under his ass to better that discipline.

I actually think it's the other way around: you can see Gunnar in Conors movement. When I first saw Conor, I assumed he was a Karate guy because of the stance, footwork and explosiveness, but was surprised that he actually doesn't hold any rank in that style. After that when I saw Gunnar fight and learned that he is a black belt in Goju Ryu Karate, it all made sense. Conor has that special physical talent. He absorbs things like a sponge and is able to emulate them very quickly.

In some ways Gunnar is a more complete fighter than Conor. His stand up is awesome. And his ground is phenomenal. Only guy I seen that dominated him on the ground was Maia. Conor has better stand up but no where as close as Gunni on the ground. You can see they both have the almost same style when they fight.

I don't think Gunnar gives much of a shit about money or fame. Rankings are stupid. He's proving it fairly consistently. Not by media, not by calling people out....literally JUST on the people who don't want to fight him. I'm a huge fan of the guy, probably wrong about 90% of my posts, he is a hero to me. I'm extremely biased. Don't you have to sort of be biased, to be a fan of a fighter?. Hell if I know. I thought his gameplan against Maia was stupid....but I don't even think Gunnar looked at that as a fight. I think he was looking for a BJJ match. I don't know......it's just how it seemed.

I am so relieved to hear a top level fighter saying he doesn't use hand wraps. I feel the same. I've been hitting the heavy for 29 years off and on with unwrapped hands (almost always in light boxing gloves) and have never had an injury beyond a slight tweak. I punch for technique and accuracy, not power. I usually throw at about 60%.
