You should really start making videos again. You are easily understandable and have good info those are not that easy to find on YT community.

Thanks for the comment. Button rifling is faster but adds stresses to the steel that must be dealt with by heat treatment as you might already know. With single point cut rifling, stress releaved steel can be used from the start eliminating that step.

Nice job! Mine is similar, I make 200 barrels a year on mine. I use a cable and drum to generate the twist.

Interesting. Usually gun drills/deep hole drills the "bit" is what's spinning as opposed to this/common lathes that spin the workpiece

I'm almost finished with my sine bar style built as a removable unit on the ways of my lathe. Good job on yours, looks quite a bit more robust than mine!

There are a lot of Pratt and Whitney sine benches still available now that cnc is the standard in cut rifling

Try a used Eldorado with counter rotation on the Chuck. I’m a 50 year gundriller who if you lined up all the parts with gundrilled holes I’ve drilled it would wrap around the world. Those were the days. Gravy jobs 10, 000 parts a month. I ran a shop with 15 GUNDRILLING machines. Keep those spindles turning.

So how is the gundrill comming along? Im really into this sort of thing. They say odd numbers on the rifling makes for more accurate rifling. The 5R and 7R George Robartes suggests in the comments isnt to bad of an idea. Do you have any books on building this machine? Or any drawings? Hoping all is well on the other side of the tube. Jeff

Find the bill web machine. If you have some big bearings and a lathe and some scrap railroad track or iron beam. You can build a machine like this. I suggest reading into making gears on a milling machine. If you have a lathe you can build the gundrilling machine for sure. Maybe a welding machine is what you would want to have to. Whatch the series and make a design on a computer cad cam program. This is great! If you get a pottery oven thats computer controlled you can heattreat parts yourself. Maybe a nitrogen tank for hardening aluminum... But thats optional. Hell, if you read enough you can draw your own bullets/cases from sheet material.. Its all out there! Check scribd/youtubr/archive.org. for books on machining, engenering, making machines like this, you name it. Good luck and be save! Do not cross the law.. Just saying
