Interesting thing to note that the very original Gundam was supposed to have only one color palette, like the Unicorn Gundam. The full white was to give it a military aesthetic. They only added the red and blue, because they were told to make it look more sellable as toys.

I'm so glad I took my time and watched the ENTIRE UC Timeline before making it to Unicorn. With the full context of everything, all the progress up until that point, and every single easter egg, Unicorn was in my opinion - Perfect.

Actually even then you don’t get everything, that purple suit with the knives that stabbed the GM II semi striker, the Gm with the big forked beam halberd thing. That’s a nod to some of the games. Unicorn is well and truly a love letter to EVERYTHING UC, games, books, OVAs, TV shows, movies. That said it’s also one of the best stating points.

Even though I feel like I missed out on some of the context, I don’t regret starting with Unicorn. Seeing these transformations were hype as hell.

To be fair, the RX-0 units _are_ technically the strongest gundams ever made. The RX-0 Unicorn was quite literally stated to be capable of destroying the universe at full power. Now the RX-0 Banshee and Phenex are very unlikely to produce that kind of power unless a newtype at or above the level of Amuro or Banagher pilots them.

The life size unicorn is sooooooooo freaking awesome finally went to see it and don't regret it I stood there for like 2 hours just watching it I was absolutely dumbfounded impressed and just at a loss for words. The future is now thanks to science gundams will become a reality and nobody can tell me otherwise this needs to happen I'd love to see gundams zooming around in the sky shooting beam lasers slashing enemies with beam sabers etc.

At 0:12-0:13 right after the Unicorn reveals its yellow forehead V-crest, you can see a transition from the 3D CGI to hand-drawn animation

Just bought a perfect grade unicorn with LED. Damn! It looks so damn good. I also don't put any stickers and decals since I hate how they look and I want it to look like the anime. Just panel lining and top coat. Straight awesome!

Everybody gangsta til the white jegan with the pointy antenna start glowing red.

A few things I'd like to gush about. 1st, I love that they predominately used CGI for the transformations. I'm sorry to say but the look would not create the same majestic feel in Hand Drawn animation unless they had a very stellar animator, but even then (this is coming from someone who prefers 2d to 3d). 2nd, I absolutely adore the sound design for when Full Armor Unicorn transforms. The creaking and breaking metal really makes it sound like it's a struggle for control between Banagher and the Unicorns NT-D System. It's just so **chief's kiss** 3rd, I love how the Unicorn noticeably gets taller in the fight against the Mobile Armor. Something I didn't realize was that when the Unicorn transforms, it gains mass. So it's a nice detail that it's not a still shot and the Unicorn gets taller.

I had wondered why they stopped using psycho frame as the UC went on but after watching Char's Counter, Unicorn and NT I started to understand. Psycho frame is actually insane with the stuff it can do even if the MS isn't designed to have a lot of it like the Nu Gundam and Narrative, is anybody is interested in watching Gundam: Narrative Crunchyroll has it and I'd say it's worth the watch, it's only about an hour and a half but they really pack a lot into that time

@@bluedragon8658 make sense but unicorn itself is equiped with beam reflecting i-field technology like unicorn 1 and 2 did, i just feel like the gold coating of phenex is just the symbolise the common acknowledged color of phoenix (yellow, orange, gold color tone)

I love how the transformation looks like a struggle, almost uncomfortable for them to do

The suit is connected to the pilots nervous system for instantaneous movement at the speed of thought. Overuse of the transformed mode can kill him because of the mental strain and overload. So "Unicorn" Mode is the basic regular mobile suit but when it transforms the controls sorta just retract and it's all him from there.

Because psycommu cause a high burden to the pilot brain, as this system works using the pilot brainwave to control MS. With psychoframe is installed all over the MS frame, this system needs for the pilot brain to work drastically harder. So, the destroy mode normally only able to activate for few minutes.

Several reasons the first the other two guys covered, the suit also has a time limit on how long destroy mode can be active and the final reason is that destroy mode also disables all performance limiters the suit has. The suit unlike any other at the time is so quick to accelerate, can go so fast and so in that it puts the pilot under severer physical strain, G-forces that are normally near none existent suddenly become very existent for the pilot inside who is likely experiencing several times the normal gravitational forces. With that said I’m most later events it takes part in it’s basically in destroy mode the entire time it’s active. The mode is named such too because it has a system in the suit called the New Type destroy or NT-D which is what puts it into “gundam” mode as you put it. It activates whenever a newt toe is around automatically but can also be turned on at the pilot’s discretion.

I think Gundam Iron Blooded Orphans (IBO) and Gundam Thunderbolt would be the good series for a beginner to Gundam franchise to watch since IBO's story is contained in it's own universe and Thunderbolt is also a standalone series despite in the same universe as the original Gundam. So even if these two are the first one that you watch, you can still understand the story despite not knowing anything about Gundam and they will explain it to you in the story. Another one in it's own contained universe that was added recently is Gundam The Witch from the Mercury. I think it is a good entry for new fans too especially when you watch the prologue of this series to know what Gundam is all about but it is too early to judge since it only got the prologue and the first episode currently.

Gundam is more like a passion project 40+ years and they have their own animation studio(sunrise) and they have more than enough budget, meanwhile most anime right now is just a normal working project with tight budget and quick deadline making it 90% of the anime that aired during the season are garbage.
