I have the hardest time regulating how hard I toss them..mine always go flying five or six feet. I'll get it, eventually!

Yes you will. You will learn a gentle toss so you can depend on one revolution. It might help to lift with your fingers that are under the gun. Then, there is not so much emphasis on tossing with your wrist.
