Gun Build to Game Shoot - The Oxfordshire Driven Pheasant Day
Спорт
We head to the Mongewell shoot in Oxfordshire for a relaxed day in a beautiful woodland setting, shooting driven pheasants.
A friend of mine, Andy was compelled to buy a new side-by-side from William Powell, because he has always struggled with gun fit, and as he and I were shooting together that day, I decided to follow him through the process. a few months before the shoot day.

You just have to love the UK‘s gun culture. Greetings from Germany!
This is what Kirby Allison’s shoot series finale should have been like.

Another absolutely excellent film! Side by sides are hands down where my heart lies in the shooting world. Thank you so much.

Please do, we aren't all bad :)
I'm 51 now and been shooting since I was fifteen and I love steel cartridges for clays and game . It was your films that got me to try steel and also take up shooting clays just two years ago , your antics with Ant just made it fun and I've found a good fun group to shoot with. Lovely shotguns btw.

And were so happy with lead not going to change here rember we used steel 10 years ago in duck feeding marshes that's the only place to use it
Very cool video thank you for being such a positive influence in the world of gun and hunting sports
Great film once again. I had a gun fitting with Tom P in 2021 and it changed my world, having a fitted gun is definitely worth it.
another Great show ,Thank you
Andy, I applaud your decision to purchase a SxS!!! Many will never understand the "Intangible Satisfaction" of taking game with a traditional firearm. I myself duck hunt with vintage SxS's and it's always a pleasure when I outshoot my friends with their Auto-loaders & O/U's. Congratulations Sir!!!
'Can I customise this gun?' 'Yes' 'Ok ditch the second trigger'.
Agree, over and under timeless.
wow just love the Side by Side . its fantastic
I generally love your channel, your love for guns, matches mine, and the passion for them is clearly visible in everything you do! It must be a great life to make a living doing what you love, keep up the awesome content, and entertainment!
Gun fit is key !! Great video lads very enjoyable 👌👏
love it!!!
Thanks for sharing. Love these hunting videos. The videography is great and draws you in to the atmosphere of your day a field. Powells are very nice guns. The fitting and try gun process was interesting to see. Thanks again.
Great video, not sure how I missed this one initially. I love the British shooting scene. Something to really behold and enjoy.
Probably the best video you have made in a long time, absolutely no disrespect intended. Kind regards from deepest Dorset
Love this Jonny, bought my WP 10 years ago and had a lesson with Shooting Tom…can’t recommend it enough, still love my gun. Please do some pigeons with Tom, he’s one of the best in the UK. Thanks for sharing, Jules, Droitwich
Brilliant video as usual. Lovely gun too. I agree he should have bought a sxs. Keep up the good work jonny 👍👍
Muy excelentes cazerias amigos saludos chebres caza
I am not a side by side man, but have been thinking of getting one just for game shoots. Nice video TGS 👏
Beautiful guns ☺️👍
Lol the most epic music spliced over a foggy and bucolic scene of the english countryside ever.

😂 that would have been a purer reference
But there is something about SxS’s and that one looks fantastic!!
Really interesting video I’ve had a play with a try gun and set it up but not shot it in my opinion gun fit matters hugely when your of an overly large height I’m the same as your self in my mind being comfortable behind a gun is the same as setting up the seat and mirrors in your car gun fit is still something I struggle with you can bend your self into a gun to shoot it but you’ll have a beaten up face at the end of the day.
Hi mate thanks for your helpful video. I have a question, is that right, that I can buy shotgun in British Shooting Show, cheaper than local dealer. Thanks
Oh, Jonny... hasn't Simon taught you anything? SXS's rock!

I have a question regarding the High Pheasant Steel Cartridges, is there any shop where I can order them? Because I am from Austria. So it might be difficult to get some I think.
Anyone know of any shoots around kent that are looking for beaters?
The funniest part of this video to me is how steel shot for game is odd to y'all, here in the states, well at least North Carolina it is illegal to shoot at game with toxic shot (lead) so steel for hunting is standard with Bismuth being an expensive alternative and lead being reserved for clays.
How many points for catching your shot pheasant before it hits the ground?
I enjoyed it thanks for giving the price for the gun it shows the huge difference between the rich and the poor its got worse than it used to be the English government needs to have public land which it will be forced to do where common people can shoot game keep and have some enjoyment.the 70tys were much more normally how much were the shoot guns on peg
Johnny, I'm just an American digging the English shotgun culture. Why don't alot of these English shotguns have butt pads or butt plates. What's the pros and cons to the English straight grip on a shotgun compared to the "normal" grip ?
Finally a true double man. Like Pops always said, if God had wanted us to shoot over/unders, he'd have made our eyes like ":"!
Question for the TGS guys.. Where has been your favourite place to shoot? I'm from Norwich Norfolk, and have wanted to get into clay/trap and rifle shooting since I was young, even gunsmithing but never knew where to start.

That is a tough one! Our favourite ‘open to public without appointment’ clay grounds are Grimsthorpe and Barbury
I have had 10 or more o/u, but still go for a S by S as I shoot better with a s b s and I am 78 next bday.
Could you at some point explain why over and under and not side by side.
Hi mate, I'd like to buy a good shotgun but my budget is limited then I'm looking for finance to purchase a new good shotgun, so would you please advise me. God bless
What hat is Andy wearing please?
William Powell, Since 1802....made in Italy ????? 9:27
🇪🇨🇪🇨👍🤝
. . . . No he should not have bought an over and under. Aside from that it was one of the best videos yet and probably the most informative.

In all the videos I have seen on gin fit they have never mentioned that as you age you put on weight and parts of your physique change over time , so your fitted gun becomes an un fitted gun.
Great video. But no, he should not have bought an O/U. His choice was perfect.
should've bought a over and under. yes
This just proves that you don't need to sell a kidney to buy a beautiful gun that is built to fit. But he should have bought an over/under! 😀 If only they made a Sporter!

@@ipodhty I think it's a bargain. If they made a shorter for that money, fitted and bespoke I would definitely consider it.
Can some one explain why the UK turns its nose up at pumps, but wants the "latest tech" in thier, what is basically a 19th century style of gun. Modern steel I get, the pretty of them I get, antique I get, but not the needing of the latest tech for a gun style, not the latest .... especially for that money.... buy silver stock, donate to charity,

There's a fairly well ingrained part of British gun culture that revolves around both law and common courtesy, that's to do with breaking the gun. Essentially, if you want to walk around with a gun, a broken open gun is a safe gun that cannot fire. It's considered a very easy way to check a gun is unloaded compared to pump action or semi auto guns. Anywhere there's shooting that's considered a safety advantage. It's also got a legal aspect - if you want to go somewhere with your gun that you can encounter non-shooting members of the public, such as using a public footpath, then the law basically states your gun should be open or in a slip. There are times when you might want the gun out so having the ability to choose to do this just keeps things simple. In a similar vein, if you want to travel on, say, public transport with a gun or have guns in your vehicle and stop off somewhere, being able to fully break down the gun and store it in another, non gun shaped bag or case can make it a lot less conspicuous than travelling with a full length gun slip. It also means you can take part of the gun with you and leave the other part in a vehicle, e.g. if staying somewhere overnight without a gun safe, separating stock and barrels to comply with legal requirements on storage.

@@kls1836 see I get that. I'm even in the market for a double barrel because I think it can extend my day in the field. You understand that bag limits are easily met with an old Mossberg 500 from the 60s. It's a damn good gun in the field. And that third shot, in America most of us can only shoot up to three in the field, we have to put in a wooden dial or a plug to block the rest of the capacity. Anyway, that gun ends the day too quickly. A double barrel wouldn't. Me and a friend of mine are both in the market. So I understand wanting a double barrel, just not wanting many thousands of dollars worth.
@matthewdeepblue

@@samwalker7567 okay so I actually get this. You fixed me. Like I told the other person, I absolutely understand the pretty and I absolutely understand the limiting factor. My Mossberg 500 from the 1960s that my grandfather left me, beautiful thing. It's heavy, yet somehow very fast to shoot... it can reach that bag limit really quick if it's a good hunting day. And I do like the idea that a double barrel would kind of slow that down. So I happen in the market for one. Obviously I'm still not going to get a very expensive one. I've kind of been lusting over that double barrel Ruger red label that he shot a few back.
The trouble with OUs is that you have you shoot them with your eyes closed on account of their ugliness. I've found that this makes hitting the birds harder.
First
I really like videos such as this one but at 6:50 BIG GRINGE!!! Next time please show the empty gun to the camera before mounting then dropping for the master eye check.
