Gumby - WPWR Channel 60 (Complete Broadcast, 1984) 📺

Ойын-сауық

Here's a complete broadcast of the stop-motion claymation series Gumby, as aired over WPWR-TV when it was on Channel 60 and based in Aurora. ("The Power Station")
This airing was in the final years of the program with its original soundtrack still intact (including selections from the legendary "Hi-Q" music library) before it was revamped later in the 1980's and replaced with generic synthesizer music. This particular broadcast was also long after Eddie Murphy first "impersonated" the green lead character famously on Saturday Night Live.
Includes:
Station ID / promo for Gumby, followed by Birdman and the Galaxy Trio (voiceover by ?)
Notice of National PTA recommendation of Gumby (voiceover by Neal Sabin) (well, "conceptually recommended") - "Show your child you care"
Gumby creator Art Clokey opens show with his main characters, "son" Gumby and pal Pokey (the "clay boys", next to him)
Gumby opening titles with - "Little Green Slab of Clay" theme song (I used to love this opening theme! It sounds like it was done in mid-to-late 1960's - and sure enough, said opening bears a 1967 copyright)
First short, "The Ferris-Wheel Mystery"
Gumby "will be right back" bumper (voiceover by Dean Richards)
Promo for morning lineup of Car-Tunes at 6:30am, Voltron at 7:30am and Gumby at 8am (voiceover by ?)
"Back to" Gumby bumper (voiceover by Dean Richards)
Installment of The Funny Company, "Water Skiing"
Second Gumby short, with 1956 copyright - "The Little Lost Pony"
"Gumby and the gang, will be right back" bumper (voiceover by Dean Richards)
PSA for Children's Memorial Hospital Fund with Christmas greetings
Promo for Bewitched at 5:30pm (voiceover by ??)
"Back to" Gumby voiceover (voiceover by Dean Richards)
Third Gumby short, with 1956 copyright - "Gumby Concerto"
Gumby "will be right back" bumper (voiceover by Dean Richards)
Promo for Birdman and the Galaxy Trio at 2:30pm (voiceover by ??)
"Back to" Gumby bumper (voiceover by Dean Richards)
A reprise of the delightful Gumby theme song and intro, followed by the fourth Gumby short, with 1967 copyright - "Gumby Baby Sits"
Gumby creator Art Clokey closes this edition as it's "the end of the line..."
Station ID / promo of Birdman and the Galaxy Trio, followed by Spectreman (voiceover by ??)
This aired on local Chicago area TV in December of 1984 during the 2:00pm to 2:30pm timeframe.
This was from a tape donated to The Museum of Classic Chicago Television as part of the Mark Yurkiw Collection.

I remember renting Gumby vhs tapes constantly and obsessed isn't the right word for what I felt. The show led me towards a life of absolute infatuation with stop motion animation

I used to watched this since I was a kid. This claymation was created by the same guy who later did “Davey & Goliath” which was Art Clokey.

Although I did not grow up in Chicago (I grew up near Philadelphia) and I was in college by December of 1984, Gumby was packaged with other cartoons for broadcast basically the same. In Philadelphia, Gumby was shown on the Captain Noah Show and any kid that grew up in the Philadelphia area in the 1970s would recognize the Gumby theme and interstitial songs in this video. Great to see Art Clokey introduce Gumby and his pal Pokey. Thanks for upload.

Art Clokey the creator of Gumby, was once on a TV game show in the early 1990s, somewhat like the Original "What's my Line?" BUT none of the celebrities could ever guess who he was! Then he gave them and the audience the toy figures of Gumby.

There is one show that WPWR-TV ran was the very first short called “Gumbasia” from 1953 by Art Clokey, and it was a 3-minute experimental short which would later become Gumby. “Gumbasia” has full of clay techniques and movements to go with it combining with jazz music together.

Gumby for me was on channel 9 WWOR-TV in the late 80's with the Gumby Adventures show which had new adventures plus classics mixed in as well as a new take on the Gumby theme song. This was at the time channel 5 began to cut their kids shows and cartoons. I myself have not heard of The Funny Company but at the end of that opening title, when the chief opens his mouth I swear hearing the "Tacky Buzzer" from The Hollywood Squares whenever time ran out on the syndicated version.

The 1988 “Gumby Adventures” had the original Gumby shorts which were re-dubbed along with the newer episodes. These Gumby shorts were shown here were way better than the 1988 re-dubs which were later used in “Gumby Adventures”. I should give these hands down.

Gumby used a lot of LIONEL(TM) MODEL TRAINS 🚂🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃, the most popular was the large 027 track, 2-6-4 that charged like a bull, and Gumby grabbed a cape from the Toreadors poster to fight this giant engine, although he got knocked down, and the little H.O. Scale 0-4-0 with coal tender by Mantua chugged in and made friends when Gumby shrank down to ride on top of the cab, and the little toy wooden yellow engine whistled at the end. Hi in July 2023A.D.!! TOOT!! TOOT!! ALL ABOARD,!! HIGHBALL 👋 ,!!-! NEXT STOP, IMAGINATION STATION!!
