Gulliver's Travels explained: Swift's misanthropic creation or reality?

Gulliver's Travels, a famous story written by Jonathan Swift, is considered by many to be a funny tale for children. But did you know that it's often surrounded by such remarks as misanthropy, philosophy, satire, politics, grotesque?.. You may wonder what this amusive story can have in common with all that?! But the truth is, Gulliver's Travels is full of hidden meanings and misanthropic (at first glance) statements.
In this video, I'm inviting you to dive into this unprecedented literary masterpiece and understand what Jonathan Swift hid in his Gulliver's Travels.

Interesting and informative, though I think Swift's situation as an Anglo-Irish commentator and satirist needs a little more emphasis. The Catholics of Ireland were expropriated, suppressed and marginalised from the time Swift was a young man in Dublin, and although he was "English" compared to Gaelic or Irish, he sympathised with the plight of the excluded hugely. In 1729 he wrote A Modest Proposal mocking the English governments we-don't-care attitude to anyone of Irish Catholic background... the long title of which was "A Modest Proposal For preventing the Children of Poor People From being a Burthen to Their Parents or Country, and For making them Beneficial to the Publick" suggesting parents should eat their children to prevent them becoming a burden on the state.
