On this channel we like to do a lot of dogfighting most videos are some sort of dogfight between 2 different aircraft as we explore their different capabilities. From time to time I like to dabble in Virtual Reality, I think VR is a great new technology and I love to show that stuff off for the channel from time to time.
If you enjoy war thunder or Microsoft flight simulator 2020 or even dogfighting in Battlefield 2042, consider getting yourself into Digital Combat Simulator by Eagle Dynamics, the Combat side of Aviation with the BVR and Dogfights really provides a different and interesting perspective on aviation. You can fly all kinds of combat aircraft including the F-16, F-15, F-14, JF-17, Su-27, Mig-29, Mirage and the F-18 Hornet along with many other aircraft and helicopters like the Ka-50 and Mi-8.

Imagine it's 1952, you are doing a ground support mission in the unbeatable P-51 , pushing those Nth Koreans back towards China, when all of a sudden you are jumped by an enthusiastic Russian veteran in a brand new Mig 15! Will you survive the encounter? Also.. I once had flying lessons with a bloke who was shot down in an Australian Meteor over Korea.. I believe it was a two seater on a recon mission. he was the observer as I recall. I lost 500 ft in my first turn in that 150 aerobat. Teacher was not impressed!

@@user-dd2ps4xg8u no sir, youre thinking of the first gulf of sidra incident where 2 su22s were shot down, in 1989 a similar incident happened and 2 mig23s were shot down.

How about the Gulf of Sidra 2 ways… 1) F-4s instead of F-14s. 2) Mig 25s instead of Mig 23s. 3rd idea… Mirage v Drakken 4th idea… (if they have the planes) English Electric Lightning v F-106
My dad immediately recognized your intro as the gulf of sidra incident and he asked me if I knew where it was from he showed me the footage and was in awe. This one is going to be a great one to sit down and watch. Love the content ❤ keep up the great work!!

This isn’t “THE” gulf of Sidra incident, but one of them. Two SU22’s were also shot down in the gulf of Sidra by F-14’s. This event was also called the “Gulf of Sidra incident.”

Great Alternative history video GS! As an ex-Navy guy who was THERE in the Gulf of Sidra on the USS Forrestal, (the carriers on station in those waters that day were Forrestal and the USS Nimitz), I would have enjoyed seeing something like this go down. As it was the F-4's from the Forrestal overflew low over Tripoli, basically harassing the Libyans, and they (the Libyans) scrambled the 2 SU-22'S. As soon as our F-4's saw the hostiles launch and come up to meet them, they flew back over water toward task-force airspace and broke off, so that the F-14's from the Nimitz could engage and, well the rest was history. I was in a VAQ-Squadron (VAQ-130) that flew the EA-6B Prowler Electronic Warfare aircraft and they were overflying the whole thing with the Hi-Cap fighters high overhead. We were treated to multiple views of this engagement afterwards from cameras on the boat, as well as one of the aircraft in the engagement (I think as I remember one of the F-14's) gun camera. It was a really good day that day. Although the *Real* General Quarters we were at was pretty unnerving, it ended up being uneventful at the level of the boats. The only actual real General Quarters I was ever in on my years on multiple Carriers, and the closest I ever got to actual real action during my time in the Navy. Good Video - Thanks for this GS!!

Oh she does. I remember watching Top Gun 2 with aviation enthusiasts: - Action scenes with the F-18E: Everybody was sitting and watching calmly🍿 - The F-14 appers: everybody stood up and clapped 👏
GS! Well done! In 1986 I was on the USS Coral Sea flying the F/A-18 Hornet. From January to April 1986, we were flying freedom of navigation ops, defying Omar Qaddafi’s “line of death” across the Gulf of Sidra. In the course of those five months, the USS Coral Sea conducted over 130 actual intercepts of Libyan Mig fighters to include the Mig- 23, Mirage F-1, and even some Mig-25s. I personally had four actual intercepts of mostly Mig-23s. The Migs would fly out, we would intercept them outside of 200 miles from the ship, join on their wing, take photos of their weapons load out , they would turn around and go home. Sometimes we’d actually wave adios to each other as we departed! The CAG later said we couldn’t do that any more…We were getting too friendly. Years later in 1989 when I read about the USS America’s F-14 Gulf of Sidra incident, I was absolutely incredulous. On the Coral Sea in 1986, even after five months and over 130 intercepts of Libyan fighters not once were we ever given a reason to shoot anybody down. Personally, I had never heard of any ROE based on bogey jinking. On the Coral Sea, AB decided if we could shoot or not. But he never had to make that decision because the Libyans always turned back before they got inside 200 nm. I’m still shaking my head at what happened with those Gypsies. I wonder if they all got awarded Silver Stars?

this is actually a super interesting read. I think that whole incident could probably have been avoided if there was cooler heads involved. I had no idea that many intercepts had occurred without incident, that fact alone really changes the way one looks at this incident. Thank you very much for sharing that really opened my eyes.
I really love when you re-create historical missions, and I'm happy you put a twist on this one. Would love more of the same with other proven missions... the outcome doesnt need to be the same, if anything it would show the chaos of combat decisions, and how different outcomes could have changed the geopolitics so much.

Not a single one of those MiG-23 pilots survived the encounter, no chutes were ever visible. The 4th guy was close, his chute did technically open, just underwater.

Nice! Have you tried recreating the fictional Red Dawn Colonel Tanner engagement? 1 V 5, his F-15 against 5 enemy MiGs. He never says what type so I would imagine they were whatever were the soviet front line fighters of the early 80's. And you would have to load the AIM-7's and AIM-9's that were available in the early 80's. Just a thought for a fun little mission.
“I cant get a fvckin toooonnnnnneee!”
I love these more cinematic episodes :) The historical scenario what ifs are also a fun mix up of the normal style of episode.
Today in Airplane Geographic we can aprecciate rare footage of an enderaged species called F-14, this species is a type of bird is very agressive, likes to sweep its wings to scare predators, normally they live in community´s and have a queen (carrier) to defend. Today we saw one of this potent birds attempting to defend or just a random encounter with another agressive species that has similar characteristics. The MIG-23, this one also can sweep its wing in a defense measurement, today 4 of this decided to attack a lonely F-14 on the middle of the Mediterranian. The F-14 with its superior combat experience and better evolution came on top. Very interesting species.
Imagine being a Navy crewman on board a cruiser, or destroyer, watching Tomcats get launched off the deck, coming back to make the most nerve wracking landing possible day in and day out... with all of the attention spent on how cool the planes are, and how awesome it must have been to pilot one back in the day, you almost forget sometimes that there are people back on those ships putting their lives in the hands of capable and competent pilots every day. Imagine going out there with the weight of that on the back of your mind. You launch off the deck leaving all of your friends behind taking for granted that it's just another sortie, and you'll come back in just a little while. Thousands of soldiers, sailors, airmen, marines from lowly privates to top brass... from people that handle food to munitions... You are their shield. You are their sword.
This honestly is probably my favorite channel on KZread no bs
Day 1 of not asking for anything, great video
Bruhhhh if there ever was a time... you needed to have Danger Zone playing in the background for this one LOL Perfect setting
I see tomcat, i click.
I saw an F-14B accelerate at an Air Show and it was mind boggling in a great way!
F14 is the best looking fighter ever built
This time he did in fact have a f***ing tone.
You know its gonna be a good day when GS uploads a montage. Thank you for the good videos, man. :-)
So we can conclude that fighting a Tomcat in the 80s is like trying to fight an F-22 today. Its an absolute death sentence and it won't even be close.
One of my favorite 4th Gen fighters of all time!!!!! Excellent display G.S!! You flew the F-14A like an ace out there.
I like the period-appropriate loadout!
Great video! Really like the juxtaposition of your talk through with cinematic bookends.
"I DONT HAVE A F___ING TONE!"
I was literally rewatching your previous video on the gulf of sidra and then you make another one! Any video with the F-14 is awesome, keep up the great work!
Great video! You can definitely come up with some crazy stuff with alternate reality
your cinematics get better and better. looove your channel. ive watched alot of your videos.
I JUST watched your original debrief on this incident, what a timing (also what a fight)
You Sir, are terrifying good in Dcs. And you got this landing`s in aswell. Love it
Yo GS, thanks for the video. Nice flying in the alternate GoS. Need more Minidocs! Have a pleasant evening. Cheers.
Wow, the flight deck of the carrier is pretty real to the real thing. I severed from 1996 to 2005 and that was a great nod to the real thing on a catapult launch on deck.

Thank you for your service. There were some big changes during those years, and it meant a lot to me that we had people like you keeping the watch.
I really love your videos which showcase you launching from an aircraft carrier alongside a fleet of warships. They're just soo much more immersive and feel more realistic. I have a video suggestion: F14B with AIM 260 vs F15C with AIM 152.
I like the carrier missions. Just open sea and nothing to hide behind. Always good to watch you in BVR plus the merge in one video. 4 quick easy kills dude. Great video man.
I’ve always wondered, what’s the audio in your intro from?

F14's........ Never gets old seeing them what a amazing aircraft. Wish we had a modern day version.
Great mission and awesome video as always. The Tomcat is just beautiful - absolutely epic plane

8:53 that camera work though
IMO, watching GS content on a phone instead of a full sized monitor is a minor tragedy.
Awesome, my cousin also tried to recreate this same incident in the Mission editor.
Thanks GS, really love these historic battles! I also liked the landing at the end of it. Is it "urbane legend" that Naval Aviators more worried about the landing rather than the mission?
As a kid, I dreamed of sims with this much depth. God Bless GS, affiliated pilots/channels and DCS
Alternate what-if scenarios are always pretty cool to think about, just to see what maybe could happen.
I love these recreations! GS, I want to do a fan video supercut of your Cinematics and edit them with some natowave style music.
When that Battlefield Theme kicks in!!!
Great intro. I like it.
Circa 1990 I had a f14 photo t-shirt that said "Anytime Kadafi Baby" across the back of it.
I never noticed that the wings are bending slightly when taxiing, crazy detail
Can you do a video of the entire USS Eisenhower carrier air wing? That would be awesome! Love the great work man! Keep it up!
Dude, you rolled into that ace...boarding rate guy, I see...
The answer to your hypothetical question is answered: YES! LOL
Such a beautiful machine, the Tomcat.
Was curious in your merch store? Do you still sell the coffee mugs or drink ware?
Absolutely beautiful ❤❤❤
I'm a simple man... i see F14 Tomcat content, I watch and 👍🏽 Thank you sir!
Dope!
Light work
Can I ask you what type of carrier escort vessel you have entered?
insane graphics, super impressive!!!
Best of all, Jester never ejected!
Watching that intro, all I heard in my head was "Highway to the danger zone" 🎶🎶🎶
ooh, it's the battle of swept wings!
When you fired the aim 54 with the acm switch on you mentioned locking the second mig. So I understand that they're active off the rail but I guess they have an idea which mig to try to go after or am I mistaken
@GrowlingSidewinder
7 ай бұрын
no ur correct they come off the rail and the radar in the missile is already guiding at the correct mig, assuming it doesn't lose track, it will hit that specific mig. If it loses track it might look for another one and hit an alternate target which is why one should never shoot a fox3 into a furball because it might lose its target and lock onto a friendly instead.
F14 is a beast 😍
When the Tomcat comes out to play. Best go home...
Nice video! What's the puff of black smoke I see from defending jets just before impact? They hit the throttle? Afterburner?
Anytime Baby! The Tomcat is a beast! 🇺🇸
I wanna see a second take on this when Razbam releases the MiG-23MLA.
At least you still followed the rules of engagement GS, "fire only when fired upon", and the Flogger fired his missile before you have launched your phoenix missile.
Hey are u still using Tobi Eye Tracking or did you go back to TrackIR?
Coulda swore I saw an air force marking on that cat on the deck.
VF-41 & VF-32. Something in common Baby.♠️
Did you do an inverted middle finger though?
I know you can't without a whole other headache, but boy that intro could use some Kenny Loggins...
What song is that used when the f-14 is taking off?
An amazing video spoilt by the no grade 1 wire and your having spoilers deployed on the landing. Looks like you are buying the drinks in the Wardroom 😅! Your SA is phenomenal though. Whilst I could keep track of migs 1 & 2 I have no idea how you kept tabs on 3 & 4, especially that last missile from dash 4. Love these vids and the new camera angles really help to show off the amazing heatblur model. Thanks Quick question though. Did they carry Phoenix at that point? I thought the F14s were sporting 2-2-0 although I can imagine that would be almost impossible to complete without a wingman.
