If Gukesh beats Hikaru tomorrow, it’s all over and Gukesh is the winner. The Nepo/Fabi game won’t matter. However, if Gukesh ties Hikaru, and Nepo or Fabi win, then Gukesh plays the winner for the title. In fast time controls. Best bet for Gukesh is to beat Hikaru tomorrow as he is not the best in fast games. But even if Gukesh draws Hikaru tomorrow, and Nepo and Fabi draw….Gukesh still wins! Top class chess for 13 rounds against extremely strong opponents is beyond excellence. Another reckless game from Alireza, so uncharacteristic for someone who took extreme pains in December to make it here and for someone who Magnus deemed to be the only player worthwhile for competing against in a championship match. I'd be curious to see if he chooses to return for the next Candidates if that would let him battle against Gukesh for another title! Long way to go yet, but with a clear lead, playing against someone who must find a win I won't be mighty surprised if Gukesh ends on a +5 score. Not only would that be an incredible score in an elite contest, it would also make the Fabiano-Ian result inconsequential. And if that happens, I'm sure there will be far fewer who would bet on Ding unless he shows a serious reversal in his current form in the little time he has on hand...

@epiclover8639 Gift is probably taking it too far. Just on playing character, I'd love Hikaru to win the Candidates. Which other player would have come closest to happily doing a stream within an hour of a loss? Most don't make it to the press conference on such days. Hikaru did it sportingly and in the spirit of the game. Though I could be wide off the mark in these days of secretive strategies, he seems to be in Toronto with one of the thinnest teams just playing on his strength and having made it here without needing any last minute tournaments for qualification...but as things stand, Gukesh has played the objectively strongest chess over the last three weeks and if an all-out approach from Hikaru works to his benefit he deserves this little luck for his bountiful of brilliance...

Stayed up the whole night watching this round and oh my! it brought tears of joy to witness this 17 year old win so emphatically! Some additional bonus for us - in addition to being from 🇮🇳 he is a Chennaiite 🙋

Guys, we are in a little mess now. Since Gukesh won this round 13, now the next round is crazy. Because now :- 1. Hikaru is in a must win against Gukesh. 2. Fabi - Ian , both are in a must win against each other. So I feel like Fabi and Ian game will somehow be a decisive game because I think, when you don't want a draw and also your opponent don't want a draw, someone will blunder because of trying to win at all cost mentality by both the players. Hikaru knows, he can't win the candidates if he didn't win against Gukesh. So he will press hard as well. Last round is going to be craaaazyyyy🥶🥶🥶 All the best Gukesh ❤

You have forgotten that vidit defeated hikaru two times. When it comes to chess stamina gukesh is ahead of vidit. Gukesh is the most disciplined focused talented. He has all the qualities needed to win the candidates.
