Indeed. He's responsible for what I think is the best quality of Billy Talent's music: their guitar riffs and solos that are impressive while still being catchy, clean, and calculated.

Frabjous Ian produces for the band on the last two albums...he is responsible for virtually everything... while he allows everyones own input if you read some of their biographys theres talk about Ian writing majority of the songs and pushing Ben vocally

@@prismsedits2320 um not really, blues players were early examples of crafting melody and rhythm lines together. Robert Johnson for example. Chet Atkins is a later example of fingerstyle that incorporated those elements. Jimi is an amazing rhythm player for sure. Little Wing is a great example

it still amaze me how Ian D'sa mix the notes and chords in a riff to sound like rhythm and lead at the same time, Billy Talent is a band that I like to play in guitar very much because the style is so much fun to perform and you have to get in the groove of the rhythm to master the songs, in a way is like funky metal because the chords and the flow of the rhythm

I stopped listening to Billy Talent after the 2nd album. But the imprint Ian D'sa left on me persists to this day. I realized about 7-8 years after learning to play guitar that I borrow so much from his style of playing rhythms and leads together. One of the most horribly underrated guitar players out there.

"I was developing a style that was trying to be both (lead and rhythm)"... wow, words out my mouth- because Billy Talent and Ian inspired me to start playing guitar in Gr. 6. I wanted play guitar like THAT guy. Still playing at 26 years old, seen BT 6 times... amazing TALENT EDIT: I distinctly remember my guitar teacher in Gr. 6/6 trying to teach my Billy Talent riffs, and he was so weirded out by the "Bach-like" chords and the fact that it was one guitar doing the sound of two. Amazing guitar teacher because he got those riffs pretty bang on for me lol

Ian you brought so much to the "rythm and lead but not soloist guiatrist" (which I consider I am) ! You know, the kind of guitarist who loves rythm and lead guitar the same but who's not John Petrucci ? I love your style of combined melody and rythm. It's poweful. And watching this video got me your secret ingredient : upstrokes on the melody notes! That changes everything and gives the punch that lacked before I watched this video ! Thanks a lot and hope to se you soon on stage...
