Started playing a specific Pine Yamaha c40 sometime in early high school, it was really beat up, my friend had dropped it once so it opened like a tuna can, but I glued it shut in the woodshop and kept playing it, when I graduated I tried to by it for the price of a new one, the school didn’t agree so I stole it. And it’s to this day, years later it’s still my absolutely favorite guitar to play. Can 100% recommend. Also give yours a name, mine’s war (for Warszawa)

Totally agree. For the price you can't go wrong. Great choice as a starter guitar for beginners. Yamaha just don't make any bad guitars. Have owned electic guitars, basses, steel string acoustics and classical guitars from all sorts of manufacturers and value and quality from Yamaha is the best.

I used soft Savarez strings, but I only find harder ones by now. So thank you for the string tip, they sound well to my taste according to your sample. Funnily enough D'Addario as a brand were the first ones I was recommended, but by shopping around I liked the Savarez better. Only that was 32 years ago. And for my Indonesian build C40 that I still use and love today. Lot's of dings and shredded borders from years of outdoor campfire type use, occasional moving, percussive use... play all kinds of music. Still sounds fantastic.

C70 vs C40 only differences are cosmetic. C70 has gold tuner mechs with pearloid buttons and fancier Rosette cosmetic. C80 adds Nato back and sides instead of Meranti. C80 is obsoleted in many markets. There's no benefit in spending the significant difference if you're a beginner/stud, which if you have to ask the question, you probably are. Unless money doesn''t matter, C40 and throw the money saved at better quality Savarez Crystal or D'Addario Ej45 strings and a set of pearloid buttons you can swap out yourself for USD $5 at AliExpress. Full gold mechs for $15 shipped.

i am not a pro player. I learned that first, if you love to play guitar you can enjoy in with $50 guitar. Anything would work under your fingers. if you have money and wanted to the 20% additional quality then you can spend 300% $$ to get that much. I don't think i want it unless i am a performer. It is like listen to a song with a portable cd player or a $100k sound system. Do you enjoy it? that is the key.

Can you use steel strings on it

No you don't want to do that with a classical or flamenco guitar. They're not designed to handle the tension of steel strings.
