Guitar Headstock Face Transition Jig + Free Plans

Most luthiers create the transition on the headstock face of Fender-style guitars freehand, using an oscillating spindle sander. In today’s episode I’m idiot-proofing this operation with a guitar face transition jig, so we can cut them fast, and rest easy!
This video series takes us from an empty workshop, to a fully operational small shop luthiery operation over the course of 3 months. I'll show you the jigs and templates I use, how to make your own, with downloadable CNC files, cut lists, and blueprints for each project.

That’s simply genius mate. You could probably sell that design to Stew Mac for a motza

I've just seen this video after spending the majority of today sanding in transitions on cigar box guitar necks trying to balance them by hand to get a square transition. Guess what I'll be making tomorrow? 😅. I have the Triton spindle sander that has a belt attachment so I may need to do a little bit of altering of your plans, Thank you for sharing!

I used to struggle myself- getting the transition square to the nut was such a drama. So I'm glad I could help you out in some little way!

I assume you also could do this with a fretboard attached and a little overhang?

I would thickness scarf jointed headstocks separately, before attaching them to the neck scarf joint.

The only thing that stops it being perfect in my eyes, is the small size of the table.
