Guitar DIY - Soldering A Capacitor
Музыка
Welcome back everyone! Lesson 10 we connect a capacitor to a potentiometer. Our online series on "How to Solder" is just part of a larger collection called Seymour Duncan's PIckup Installation 101. A free online course on how to install your pickups.
We at Seymour Duncan want everyone to feel comfortable with a solder and empower our community to make some modifications, as well as DIY repairs to your own guitar. So join us on our journey and the first of many videos we release on the art of soldering.

Something that's much easier is to melt candle wax over the circuit after it's been soldered together. You (Seymour Duncan) should make a selector switch to go between pots, which will allow us to choose between vintage and modern wiring. With the flexibility that Triple-Shots and DPDT pots/switches already at our disposal, this could offer yet another tonal palette for musicians to have at our fingertips!
These videos are great demos. But in all of the videos I've watched on this and other channels so far, I find myself wishing for more nods toward the reasons each decision is made. "Sometimes people solder the cap to lug 3 of one tone control and the sweeper lug of the other tone control. And then they just do it. But why? What does that do?
What a great series!
Well done. Good content, extremely well filmed and produced. Big on the "how" but didn't get into the weeds on the "why". Thanks

Glad you enjoyed it!
In the case of the yellow capacitor, I would have rotated it so that the values are more easily seen.
Great stuff mate
Great video. Does the polarity playing any role or it doesn't matter;
Can you solder a capacitor to the side of a potentiometer instead of on top? I ask because Squier Strats have thinner bodies and I saw a video where the new full size pots didn’t fit in the cavity because of the capacitor’s added height, but if removed from the top side the pots would fit in the Squier body. Would like to know if this would be safe to do so and if it would still work just as well?
antes de soldar les recomiendo comprobar la orientación del capacitor (no tienen polaridad pero si orientación), hay muchos videos de eso.
What is the purpose of the capacitor?

It is a high pass filter. It only allows high frequencies to pass through it. So essentially the tone knob is wired like a valve connected to your guitar's hot signal before your amp, and turning it allows the high frequencies to escape through the capacitor and disappear into ground instead of driving your amp
