    My boars took MONTHS to settle down and stop merely "tolerating each other" before I felt I could call them bonded. Now if the younger boar doesn't get up to go get veggies right away, the older boar will bring him one of the best things from the platter before starting to eat himself! So for those struggling through the boar bonding period, hang in there!

    Thanks for all the great info! My daughter and I love to watch the videos. We have 3 piggies -- all boars, 1 lives as a "neighbor" to the two younger since he doesn't want to share his space (but can still see and hear them right "next door"). The two boars that do live together seem to get along pretty well so far, even now as they hit around the 4-5 month mark. So far, no major fights or circling or hair raising up, no chasing or guarding the food or anything. Fingers crossed they keep being on good terms! One is definitely more food motivated and the other just seems to want to march around the enclosure rumblestrutting when he's feeling happy/excited or wants to "claim" a new toy (that he never really claims and doesn't guard, he's an odd little piggy tbh), which just gets ignored by his buddy entirely. Hopefully it stays like that, they seem to be OK with each other, we've had them since late March and have learned a lot watching your vids!

    my original 2 piggies are now 5+ and its so funny the head lift competitions with them one is deaf so when she feels shes being bullied she screams its like a long high pitched wheek but notibly not a food wheek. you go find her in a corner with her cage mate attempting a chin raising competition. Or the scared jump and chatter when her cage mate sneaks up on her. I have a set of boys who are solo neighbors. We had hoped the new baby would take the place of a lost cage mate but no those 2 boys are our first ever failed bond with blood draw. We never found an injury just the blood after a ball fight. Its really sad they cant get along but a couple times a week we do have them both out for social floor time they usually make it about 30-45 minutes till the 3yr old finally lunges then before the ball starts we separate them. not even veggies will distract them from the fact that they don't like each other, but when in their own cages with a shared wall they sit right next to each other like they are best friends it game my vet a good belly laugh when she explained then showed the picture. Piggie politics is my favorite type of politics you never know what will happen next.

    Thank you for this information - I just acquired a baby male to be "roomies" with my almost 2 year old guinea pig - they seem to be alright, and I do see those "dominance" events but they haven't escalated yet after 3 weeks, so I'm thinking they'll be alright with each other in the end :) oh, and I have to acrylic cages "connected" for lots of room for both of them, which I think is helping :) - oh, and they are both males :)

    After dealing with two adult bonded boar piggies who began serious fighting about 4-6 weeks after bringing them home, I've had to place a permanent partition in their C&C cage as seen in your video. They do both seem fairly content living this way. When I do floor time with them, so far I have been able to put them together for a short period of time. But the older fellow stays in a hidey almost the entire time, while the younger of the two is active and inquisitive around the floor area. He does seem to try to intimidate the older piggy the entire time, so in the future I am going to do separate floor times to give the older one an opportunity to be more active without fear. And to avoid any fighting attempts. The last fight ended with a bite wound to the older piggy that was a bit nasty. But separated they are back to their sweet selves and doing fine. It's a workable solution.

    Great information! I got to the point where I had to separate my boys, one of them kept biting the other and the other boy just tried to run away and get some peace. They habe 20 square meters, two water bowls, two water bottles, two feeding places and 35 hidies but still they'd fight. The bully (who is the sweetest one towards me) unfortunately wouldn't give up and eventually the bullied one got small injuries and that's when I separated them. Now they are kastrated and awaiting a girl each. Until the girls move in they talk to eachother thru a grid and seem a lot happier. Piggie dominance is rough. 🫣

    Sorry if this is a dumb question, but I’m getting my first piggies soon. I’ve been watching a ton of videos and am super stoked! I’m planning to buy some GuineaDad liners to start with (one to cover the whole cage and several smaller ones to take care of hot spots). I know you use newspaper in the hay box/litter box. Would it be a bad idea to just put another liner in there instead?

My Guinea pigs are the most loving, kind, energetic, and hilarious piggies. But still the only interact with me and each other. If you see this then please this will really help me but if you can’t that’s totally fine I understand! Love you- Your number one fan!😽🫶🏼🫶🏼

    I have 2 females and I was sure that rumbling + chasing + mounting were the results of one of them being in heat. I also observe them taking a specific pose and fidgeting their hind paws during that time.. the chased one is usually not super happy about it, but they both try to do that to each other at different times, so I was hoping they don't take it personally 😂

    I have a female young Guinea pig who was separated from her herd. So we recently got another young female, the interaction was going well at first but then they started to mild fight( teeth chattering and head raised up), we’ve been having them separate for bit and they talk to each other but once we try to let them walk around in a small area, but 2 days ago they got into a fight, I was able to stop them but it caused me to get bitten. I need advice.

    A male and a female is often seen as one of the best pairings - BUT, one of them obviously needs to be neutered or spayed, you definitely don't want to be overrun with guinea pig babies! Two males often work well, especially if given enough space and pre-bonded from a rescue. Lots of male guinea pigs are in need of homes as they get overlooked, and males are often more characterful and friendly around their owners than females 😊

    I'm at a point where i might need to seperate my pigs at night. For some reason one keeps attacking the other. I've taken them to the vet for a checkup and they've got a clean bill of health. Idk what to do. They're perfectly fine during the daytime 🫤

  • @SqueakDreams

    @SqueakDreams

    Ай бұрын

    What kind of attacking is it? If you're able to watch them can you see whether perhaps they are arguing over something in the cage they want to both use at night time (hay areas/sleeping spots), or perhaps something else external could be triggering them just at night time. If they are both healthy with no scratches or bites, they could just need some time to iron out any problems, separating is a last resort. 😊
