I only just noticed how much hair poor Lyra has lost, I sincerely hope she gets better or that the vet is able to come to another conclusion soon, I understand it must be heartbreaking not being able to control the situation, either way you’re doing a fantastic job! Bless her little soul ❤️

Lyra's hair loss is classic of ovarian cyst disease. I have a piggy with some enlarged ovaries and small cysts, but she doesn't lose hair. My piggy Ruby had the hair loss and that's really a sign of the actual cystic disease, she had to get spayed, however my vet did what's called a flank spay, meaning she made a small incision in each side of her, on the body where there's more flesh, and went in and just took the ovaries. She made a full recovery, she was back to normal in about 10 days, and her hair grew back beautifully! I don't know how old Lyra is, there's an option of hormone therapy, a shot every month, for at least a 3 month course. Please keep us updated!

Hi Susan, thanks so much for your comment, I have not heard of the disease described separately to the cysts themselves. How old was Ruby on getting spayed? Lyra will be 7 in March therefore I'm assuming an operation would be out of the question but I'll definitely look into other options and keep you updated 😊

Pedro is such a cutie but i do cry alittle looking at him I just lost my Peruvian male piggie 2 wks ago to a URI we were fighting for a good 3 months his little system just couldnt get over it even with multiple vet visits meds and critical care. Give Pedro and extra kiss for me

Could you please do a hooded bed tutorial or 'slipper bed' one? I loved the others and so did my guinea pigs! And Pedro and Lyra are adorable!

I’m really wanting to raise a small herd for the sake that my current two females are fighting for dominance and I want to even the playing fields so I can put them together… long story, we lost one’s partner and had to get them another, it’s not working great. They are separated…. But my plan was to section off an area in my new apartment for them… only issues are the sectioning part (which my dad can help with) and the water bottles! I might just build the normal cages into the dividing wall, but your water bottle set up has me really interested… mine always have to be almost side ways to keeps from leaking… wondering if you or the community had any advice?? P.S. my grandpa sent me one of your videos and my grandma and I just love them! Thank you for doing what you do.

I suggest getting the cage, Toys, other things before you get them. That’s a mistake I made. Also I highly recommend Kaveecage they have great cages!

Hiya Sarah and piggies! You are smashing it on the furry potatoes cuteness scale, Lyra steals my heart every time and Pedro seems like he’s been part of the herd forever! Loved the cuddle cup vlog previously and I’ll definitely dust off the sewing machine next year ahead of adopting piggies. Question - we plan to move from near Edinburgh to the Lakes in 2-3 years time … is it better to wait until then or can piggies cope with a drive ok? No way would I want to cause them stress. I’m keen to start a mini herd but piggy well-being comes first! Happy December! xx

My girl has the same issue as Pedro and anti-dandruff and anti-fungal shampoos really do work like a dream. Found some conflicting information on whether back "dandruff" like that is mite or fungus related, so I bath and treat with selamectin or ivermectin if it pops up. There's a UK based guinea pig instagram page (can't remember the name) that has a piggy with hair loss like Lyra's caused by Cushing's disease so it may well be a good idea to have that checked out :)

That's good to know thank you!! I hope Pedro's skin does improve. And yes, is the piggie Tilty? This is what started my looking into Cushing's as the pattern of hair loss is so similar. I believe it can be difficult to confirm though but I will see what my vet thinks :)

My 4 month old boys hate pea flakes...any suggestions?? I put them in the enclosure and food bowls and change them daily but no luck so far????

It is Johnson's baby shampoo. You can also get small pet shampoos, Gorgeous Guineas is a recommended brand :)

Guinea pigs can't eat too much hay, they should have access to unlimited fresh hay 24/7 😊

Hi there, Lyra has ovarian cysts and the hair loss started slowly on the flanks, which is a classic symptoms of hormonal cysts. Since then it spread along her sides and down her back. At her age (6.5 years), vets wouldn't recommend surgery, however hormone therapy may be an option. Alternatively there could be something else going on too, hence a check up is in order :)

Umm is it good to give your Guinea pig a bath on a day to day basis

You need atleast 2 guinea pigs because they are social animals. It doesn't really matter what gender you get but with boys you may need to give them a little more space then you would with girls as they can be more territorial 😊

I recommend you research no sulfates fast hair growth shampoo.

I have two guinea pigs myself. I love your videos also by the way, but I wondered one thing…. Why do you have them peeing and pooping on the hay that they also are eating? It seems to be convenient for you and I am not criticizing, I just think it’s very unsanitary . My pigs won’t eat hay they have peed on.

Hey there, no worries! I know some people don't accept it, however I do change the hay daily and top up frequently, about 4 or 5 times through the day, as well as giving them timothy hay in wood rolls/toilet rolls tubes. I don't believe they eat any soiled on hay and though they do use the litter tray for their business they also love playing and sleeping in the hay. I think it is more natural for them and it helps me keep the cage as a whole cleaner :)

Beeing bald cant stop Lyra from beeing cute 😊♥️ Pls don't put her under narcosis if its not urgent, I guess she wouldnt make it :-/
