This guide is unreal. I'm just picking up guilty gear for the first time today and this video is the holy grail. I've been playing melee for years and have never seen a tutorial set that explains fundamentals so well. Thanks dude
This is the most useful guide since I have just started Rev 2, thank you so much man
As someone who has only recently gotten into fighting games, I find your tutorials incredibly useful. Your teaching style is very clear and easy to follow. You really deserve more views! I'd also urge everyone to go watch your live coaching vids!
Thanks so much for this video! It feels a bit difficult to find videos that are useful to an absolute beginner like me, but you explained it really well and I feel like I learned something.
Fantastic video. This was a really great tutorial. After that new Guilty Gear announcement I decided to jump into Rev 2 so this'll be really useful.
Thanks a lot for such a great guide! I just bought this game and using Jam and loving it!
This is a really great guide!! Bought the game last summer, but the mechanics and speed of the game were a little more complex then I was used to at the time. Your guide defenitely made things more clearer and I'm going to try out what I've learned soon!
Im new into fighting games and i recently bought GG Rev2. I play character action games a lot so i wasnt new to concepts such as cancels, combos and such. After i finished the tutorials, i was fairly alright at the game, and then i joined an online lobby to test my skills at the game, and then i experienced what i would call "being an npc in the DBZ world, watching 2 characters fight so fast that u cant even see what is going on". After they finished, one of them told me that it is my turn. I immediately apologized and said that i wasnt cut out for this shit and pressed ALT + F4, I think sticking to the story mode and training is enough for me until the new GG comes out XD.

Blazblue Cross Tag got me into these games, but I found it super hard to transition to Rev 2. This guide has really helped me with figuring things out!
This video is great. I feel like what makes people so intimidated with getting into fighters like this is how so many guides assume people already know their way around the game. There are “basics” guides that jump right into lists of abbreviations that mean absolutely nothing to someone who is just starting out.
Solid guide dude. Thanks.

6:55 “Tension is really interesting because tension- Yeah fuck you ky... ...so uh tension-“ That’s my absolute favorite part. But now looking at this....I could have had a lot of fun learning the game with everyone else when it first came out...
I’ve played ALOT of fighting games, but never have I heard of numpad notation. It’s unnecessarily confusing until you’ve learned it, like military time. I have straight up heard nobody use it. I always see stuff like DB or QCB.

it's used alot in fighting games but more so anime games cause it's a way to discuss combos and moves to make it easier for people who don't speak the same language

wtf one dollar?
This is such a wonderful, detailed guide that helped me understand GG better than any guide I've seen. The biggest bummer for me with GG is the notation. I don't think the number pad is justifiably better than directional notation. I shouldn't have to transpose notation in a fighter ever. Back, downback, forward (or b, db, f) etc. is far, far better. The numpad only works when you're in left, and using it gets really jumbled when your on 2p side (player, not punch (another confusing thing about the numpad)). All in all, thank you for the incredible video!
@dj_koen1265
2 ай бұрын
Player two is often reffered to as p2 not 2p Also numbpad notation really smooths things out when talking about more intricate motions And has uses outside of motion inputs Its not inherently better or worse as it has advantages and downsides to regular notation
This game looks (and sounds) so cool.♥️
thanks,its took me 5h to get through the tutorial
Just trying out the game and love it! Just wish I could find an opponent lol
I've come from Strive hearing about the rollback. I'm ready to join Xrd's Shippuden arc 😭😭😭

I play together with friends trying to hone our skills as we fight again and again. this my first time playing a 2d fighter (ive played 1 or 2 3D ones at a very casual level before) and chaining/ gattling is soo hard !! atleast now i know that you need to get the input out while ur previous attack is hitting. but its still really difficult to get my brain and fingers to move that fast. i guess with enough practice ill have it down. didnt think getting the basics would take up as much motorcortex space as irl kata’s LMAO RIP
Thanks for this guide! Bought this game a couple of months ago (PS4) but it was hard to get into it without any help. Mechanics aside, is it possible to set the BGM to random instead of loop in the Dojo? I set it to random at the character select screen but then it only selects a random song for the stage and loops it until I leave and re-enter. It's really annoying if I have to hear the same song for the 10th+ time in a row while training.
I love you
Thanks for this, bought this game because it's on sale and got to know it from epic seven collab. First time I'll get into a fighting game so this helps a lot. Keep it up. Edit: What would be best to use for new players? Keyboard/controller? Joystick/D-Pad? etc.
@BrendanMushi
5 жыл бұрын
Thanks Poro! So honestly it doesn't matter what you use. I'll actually make a video about it since you brought it up, but I recommend whatever is most comfortable for you. I've seen pad players, stick players, and keyboard players do very well. I prefer stick because with a pad you have to use a different pad as different consoles are introduced. A stick is always the same
nice, now i will be able to learn how to be a filthy grappler main faster.
I'm a Mortal Kombat player and we use number notations for buttons but damn I never knew you have to use that for anime fighters 😮 Overall tho this is a good guide
I tried to get into revelator 2, but between the smaller player base and the difficulty of it in general( coupled with the fact that all i ended up wanting to do was impractical dragon install combos in training mode) I never really got into it. But with the new one coming out i’m hoping to actually put some time into it, so here goes

That 2k, 5k shyt is confusing. I’m coming from MK11, Dragonball FighterZ, and SF... I have to translate it to down forward or quarter circle forward movement

The number pad notation is always read as if you're on player 1 side no matter what. Just pretend your analog stick or arcade stick is a numpad on a computer. It takes time to memorize, but with repetition it'll stick.
Does this video apply to strive as well?
Should I get a hitbox or stick for GG? Any opinions on them
Who's here after the rollback announcement???
Do you have to specify if youre talking p1 or p2 position when doing combo notation? 4 is forward for p2 and back for p1... this is why other fighting games just use d, d/f, f etc for directional notation
@BrendanMushi
5 жыл бұрын
Good question, you always say notation as if you're p1 even if you're on p2 side. So 6 means forward no matter what and 4 will always mean back. Hope that helps, if you have any more questions or wanna play join our brand new discord! discord.gg/XATQ6bX

Sorry for the late reply; I’m not too far into Guilty Gear but I can confirm that it’s totally okay to play with pad on this game! I’ve also heard pad players map their buttons though to their preference; although I think Johnny and Zato-1 are two characters that benefit a lot from playing on a arcade fighting stick. Overall, pad and fight stick is just preference in the end for most players. Hope this helps.

a friend bought me guilty gear xrd, and i was excited to play online with other people, and then i realized he gifted me rev 1 NOT rev 2 :sob:
It`s weird, as much as I agree GGXrd is by all objective measurements a hard game, it`s the first FG that I was able to pick up and actually start learning to a degree. I`ve always had trouble with games that are considered much easier, such as Injustice or MK. I guess the game was just a better fit for me in a way.
