when i began watching guilty crown i noticed the inate similarities between the two but kept watching as it was still enjoyable. The issue for me came when they turned shu into a lelouch like character in the second half of the show. I really enjoyed his character and seeing the dramatic change after the death of a friend that bothered me and made it so I couldn't finish the show.

Young people who were previously exposed to the "spores" but not developed them inmediatly have some form of inmunity [and/or achieved some form of symbiosis], in a way that makes it possible for them to SURVIVE both an extraction of their "essence" & a later restoration of it. Is not that the "Voids" can not be "extracted" from much older people (it is posible), but rather the problem is that those could not be then RETURNED without killing them from the inside (by an unavoidable "crystalization" process). -> The Voids are not a "natural" (or supernatural?) aspect of reality that was always present on humans beings, but rather a form of "magitech" [derived from a "recent" contact with aliens, fay or eldrich horrors]. The way they manifest & their varied "functionality" sugest that some kind of "artificial inteligence" (trascendental & sentient, but not necesarily sapient), is creating the devices based on the "whole depth" of the psyque of an individual (SuperEgo, Id, Ego & Tulpa), rather than just their superficial mind.

Tbh while they may be similar i love both shows and both have their ups and downs e.g. code geass has lelouch's amazing mind while guilty crown has its amazing and beautiful animation

@@TheZetamx I actually watched Guilty Crown before Code Geass. I liked seeing Shu more than Lelouch because he displays what a normal person would do. The Funeral Parlour characters were a lot more interesting and cooler than the Black Knights as well. I really don't find any characters interesting in Code Geass. Suzaku and Cornelia were a bit interesting. Inori was boring as hell but the rest were shining. I like the having the Voids and Apocalypse Virus aspect as well Also the most memorable Shu moment for me was Hare's death episode :(

Time for a lesson in algebra code geass = cg = cXg Guilty Crown = gc =gXc cXg=gXc cg=gc Solved

Code geass captivated my mind, how I process the world and a clash of ideals between groups, it’s ideas push my thoughts forwards and pose interesting ideas. Guilty crown captivated my heart, the music and visuals drew me in, the protagonist relatability and power choice both open up a lot more opportunity to feel empathy and understand people. I don’t think either anime is completely accurate on what would happen, but they both bring up profound and interesting points and they are great foils of each other

I think a lot of people bash Guilty Crown a little to hard without acknowledging the humanity and vulnerability that Shu has. Even though he was not the most liked character, he did what any actual human would do in a situation where they got an unknown power and he freaked out. He had his ups and downs but he obviously made the right decisions in the end because he saved humanity. GC is not as bad as people make it out to be.

This is facts. Guilty Crown is deliberately different from Code Geass - and seeing Shuu come into his own as opposed to Lelouch who things came natural to is an interesting spin. Which ends up making Guilty Crown unique in its own sense instead of being a Copy.

Fair enough, since Lelouch has his massive intellect going for him as a natural advantage. Personally, I didn't find Shuu as compelling a character, but I do understand the appeal behind Shuu a little more now.

I now understand why Hare's death had to happen in s2...because she had the same role as shirley, and both served only to hurt and challenge the MC emotionally.

Hare was also a Lois Lane figure in that her death triggered a tyrannical turn to someone trying to do good. I was more shocked by Shirley’s death, but more saddened by Hare’s.

Mmm I never thought about it that way. I have watched both anime and while I agree Code Geass is the better of the two. I think Guilty Crown isn't as bad as some make it out to be. I enjoyed the show but hated the ending.

Finally someone addressed this. I like the way TV Tropes described GC: the spiritual successor to CG. I appreciate the perspective you used to analyze the two, but as a magic system nerd I feel the need to point out a bit more (spoilers for the uninitiated). Geass is indeed meant to dominate, and CG's ending heavily relies on it to manipulate everyone else involved for the sake of the greater good. Whereas in GC, at Shu's rise from his dark night of the soul, his revelation is that the king must inspire himself (bringing out his own void) and gets stronger by taking on the burden of others (taking others' voids and saving them from crystallization). These are very different paths to kingship, and had GC gone about it differently (no mechas for starters if you want kids with superpowers to fight) I think it could have been better than CG.

To all the people saying GC is a copy or knockoff of CG, it’s basically the same as saying the shounen animes/ mangas are copying each other lmao. The only thing these two animes are similar is that the protagonists become terrorists to overthrow the government. Otherwise, it completely have different components. Like in shounens, the main protagonist is weak/ alone but they have a big dream so they try hard and face hardships, gain friends, fight evil and ultimately fulfill their dreams? That’s typical shounen and you can’t say they’re copying each other. I love both GC and CG but I’ve never thought GC is a copying. I see them as complete different animes with similar genre/ theme that I enjoy a lot.

Even though I saw them in a weird order code geass was still better in every way I only really found about how much better code geass was afterwards because I’m horrible at telling if something is good or trash I watched through guilty crown and never though wow this is really bad. Either way looking back at both of them even when I didn’t really know if they were good or not I still likes code geass even better because it made me exited for every episode while guilty crown didn’t do that or maybe it did like once idk.

The only thing that ruined Guilty Crown from me was the lack of development on the secret organization of Daath. Otherwise, the series has kind of become a cult favorite of mine Also. One thing I must explain. The Visual novel "Lost Christmas" and concept art explain that voids can only be drawn out of people born after the meteorite fell to Oshima, and the meteorite fell 17 years ago. Like in Evangelion, kids only born after the impact could ride Evas.

I found it very similar to NGE actually.

I remember watching Guilty Crown at 15 and thinking it was pretty original. And THEN I watched Code Geass and Evangelion (with the scared protagonist with no ambition) and completely changed my mind.

I've never drew a comparison to the two animes and you make some great points. I suggest watch/play guilty crown:lost chirstmas. It expands the world of guilty crown a little bit and overall an enjoyable read.

idk why people think a show is automatically bad if it has similarities with another . i always try to judge shows for what they are by themselves. why would similarities ruin a show? this show was visually stunning , the music was beyond great and the plot wasn't bad at all.

What makes Code Geass famous is the ending, and Guility Crown doesn't even have a stable ending.

I finished this anime just now and I have my own review of it. Shu to me was a very human protagonist and I loved seeing his development. In the beginning, all he wanted was to be useful to society which is a common thought to anyone. He knows what’s going in society, but the moment, he met Inori, his life changed and he was asked to tie the strings together but he was asked if he was a coward. His insecurity refuted the offer from a danger and didn’t know less from the situation. From my perspective, Shu always wanted to be a hero because he did follow Inori and at the beginning, he let Inori be captured because of his insecurity and his self conflict. When he saw Inori being captured, he didn’t take any hesitation to come to the scene. When he used Inori’s void, Gai was disappointed and it was foreshadowed later that Mana was the reason he wanted Inori to let him use his void. Shu also didn’t trust Gai’s harsh conduct and he would call it unrealistic, which is a good concept. One thing I did wish Shu would have done is going rogue because I predicted Gai wasn’t in the good side because he used others for his own gain and for Mana which is revealed later on. Plus if he went rogue, hare, the betrayal of others wouldn’t have happened and I think he should have went rogue the moment he saw the citizens being killed for not listening to their orders. I knew Shu and every funeral parlor members were manipulated and shu at the beginning even knew there was something wrong with Gai. The death of Yahiro brother did put a emotional scar on Shu and he was treated badly and everyone in shu place would be traumatized because the death of yahiro brother made him remember his past. He was afraid of himself. I knew something was wrong after he sacrificed Gai because Gai isn’t the type to sacrifice himself first but we knew Gai was Triton and so he wanted to end the apocalypse in his own way. However the apocalypse would continue because Keido was still alive and they still had Mana. The ranking system was a problem because of the inferior complex and Souta was an example of it, because of the system, he wanted to be useful and due to that, Shu came to the rescue only knowing Hare sacrificed herself. He realized he couldn’t win without sacrifices and he knew he was too kind, which is why he became unstable and we could see a lot of Gai in him. Using others for his own gain and get out of the wall. Of course he would be betrayed because his secret was revealed and his power would cause him trouble. I predicted that Gai would come back and it was pretty obvious because Keido didn’t die but escaped. I like that Inori always was by Shu’s side and even felt cold when he left Funeral Parlor. The climax was fast paced and the keido backstory made sense because I knew Keido wanted to use the virus to end humanity and restart anew. Daath was also the main influence because it was outside influence that would make Keido use the virus for his own gain and curiosity. The final episode showed how far Shu became and he was a better leader than Gai because he showed his sacrifices, his failures, his victories not through his words but his actions. Inori was the only person who truly believed in him and Shu developed so much for being abandoned and he had many losses. The ending where Inori dies made sense to me because Inori is the vessel of Mana to prevent the apocalypse to continue and we saw an important moment which is Shu finally holding the strings to show that he had nothing to fear and that he was ready to move forward. It was a sad but meaningful ending which I liked because Inori and Shu are one in my eyes, they are made for each-other.

This channel is so underrated. I finished the video thinking this was like a 50K+ subs channel just to realize it's way smaller. Keep it up and u'll go big!

This goes to the saying as a ruler, Would you rather be loved by your people or feared by your people?

The funny thing is that Shu was LeLouche when he was younger and Gai was Shu. The personalities swapped due to a shared traumatic experience they both shared. Gai embraced it and became Shu, Shu repressed it and became Gai.

I love both Code Geass and Guilty Crown so much. The ending of both were beautiful, and I particularly like Guilty Crown's simple and bittersweet ending. But I don't think that you can call Guilty Crown a knock-off due to it being written by the same person.

Guilty crown is my guilty pleasure but putting it in the same sentence as code geass is blasphemy💀

As someone who parades around the internet saying Guilty Crown is my favorite anime of all time, I have to first and foremost thank you for not dunking on it outright. What's funny is to me, Code Geass bores me. It's not bad, not at all, it really is good. But ignoring the obvious connections between the two. These are almost separate genres. Let me explain. Where Code Geass is a political power struggle with intelligent and supernatural strategy, Guilty Crown is a supernatural battle anime, with a focus on romance and what it means to be human, that also has a political power struggle. I don't watch Guilty Crown to see the government be taken down, and the world be set right. I watch it to see Shu grow, to learn to use his powers, and to see his relationship with the people around him. I watch it to see the amazing setting of the virus and voids. I watch it to see what happened in their pasts. Essentially, The main reason I liked Guilty Crown is one reason a lot of people hate it. The ending. The ending of Guilty Crown left many story threads untouched, it didn't tell us everything about what was going on with the voids and the king's power. And to me, that was what was great. That ending is the proof it never really was about the politics, or the king's power, and voids. It was about Shu, and Inori. And that's all it needed. But that's just my opinion, I hope it can be respected.

@@areare3990Yeah, I can admit I'm probably just doing that. Guilty Crown was one of my first Anime, and that was what I genuinely thought about the ending. I thought it was interesting that there was more to the world, but was satisfied with not exploring it. The show could have been easily about Shu becoming King and fighting off those virus monsters from lost christmas, but I like to think they intended to not do anything with those threads.

bit late, but the way i see it, there are many times in real life that we go through situations that leave us with questions that will never be answered, and the ending reflects that. not every story needs to be a perfect open and shut case, where everything is figured out, because in reality, that's almost always how it goes regardless. I'm personally content with not knowing the full story, as its always something i can go back to and speculate about, which makes it far more memorable to me than most other media.

I was never a fan of Guilty Crown but this video definitely gives me more to think about when thinking about the series. Nice video.

Well, the only reason people hate guilty crown because people expected the main character to be the archetypical good leader without considering how people's behavior would work in a very stressful scenario which is very prevailent in the 2nd half of the show, and the fact that the show killed the female mc in the end. Otherwise, for me its an 'okay' anime about how human behavior affects the power they possess and vice-versa

the only reason im aware of Guilty Crown's existence is because it kept showing up when I would try to find Guilty Gear art and then being immediately disappointed upon finding out Guilty Crown wasnt a Guilty Gear spinoff. I should probably actually watch it at some point

I'm slightly biased because Guilty Crown was one of the first animes I watched that for me into it, but seeing this makes me want to rewatch it. I personally really loved guilty crown and loved the art style, animation, music; I also felt like this is one of the few animes where they characters are written pretty well and act/think like normal people to a degree. Like you pointed out Shu isn't meant to be likeable at all because he's flawed but those flaws help him make the right decision and his insecurities and low self esteem make it more believable when he messes up and feels remorse compared to other anime protagonist

two of my favorite animes, i love guilty crown soo much like it's so human and same thing with code geass. I can see how code geass is better but guilty crown is beautiful in it's own unique way. I mainly agree with everything you said so great video.

Just finished Guilty Crown yesterday, and now I feel obligated to watch Code Geass. As nervewracking and heartbreaking as GC was, I did enjoy it. I still miss Best Girl very much. CG has sounded enticing from the getgo, so thanks for this vudeo that clinched my interest.

I loved GC, I liked CG, Both are worth watching. GC has a special place in my heart though. Despite it's seemingly rushed story I thought it was great. Just breaks my heart, it could of been SOOOOO much better if they had explored the world of GC more and expanded and explained everything. The ending is a great example... Unless you watched and noted every little detail the ending is very confusing and makes no sense whatsoever. Also props man for not being one of those "GC is just poor mans CG" people like most youtubers are....

The interesting thing is seen when looking at the character that dies, the coward shu saves the world and lives. Lelouch ends up dead and hated

I wondered why they named it "Gulity Crown" and this video connected the points in my head. Sho has the king's powers, but doesn't accept it until later. And doesn't realize HE was the creator of this new world only in the fact of his father being the creator of the black Christmas and such

Watched guilty crown as one of the first anime ever since I found It almost right After I was able to have internet. Became almost istantly my favorite anime even tho I had already seen GTO, slam dunk and death note for example, that's because shu and everything that happens to him and Inori touched me really deeply, long story short I found code geass several months After and even if mamy years have passed guilty crown has still a special place in my Heart, with code geass too. I totali agree with your thoughts, short video but surely not poor, It Is clear that you put a true effort in trying to explain the bound and even the differences between the anime, your Channel Will grow for sure if u keep up the good work!

I really hate Guilty Crown. I don’t necessarily think it was a complete knock off, although there were a few glaring similarities. I just hated how the plot was all over the place, Shu was so dislike-able that you just can’t get invested in his character. Especially when he basically goes full on Stalin and says “Eff Friendship”. The other characters weren’t much better. Inori was submissive arm candy to every male in the series. Ayase was a tsundere but not done particularly well because she grew on Shu too fast. The animation and music were stunning but that’s about it. The only good character for me was Gai, and they ruined him. Not by killing him, but by bringing him back as a sort of zombie-Hitler. The plot holes were big enough to fit Shu’s massive inferiority complex into. They left so much unexplained all the way through that it was hard to enjoy. And the ending was so anticlimactic and disappointing. All that build up for a 30 second fight. Overall I give this series a 2 out of 10. Whereas Code Geass, I give a straight 10.

Code Geass is the perfect example of a show being mid to being one of the best anime just because of the great ending that it has. It could have been the same with Guilty Crown, but apparently it wasn't.

This whole time I had NO idea there was an age limit to voids XD it was a point so small it never occurred to me and I wondered why- I vaguely recalled something countering this weird info. So I looked it up "Voids can only be extracted from people 17 years or younger. The reason for this is unknown at this time but it is suggested that a person's Void needs time to properly form. This is similar to saying how humans develop over time. Age part could be referring to its user's age, like Shu is 17 and can only extract Voids from the ones who are 17 or younger." this make sense since there is a user who has a void but he himself is over 1000 years old. So he can do whatever he wants- but Shu consistently can only use voids of those equal or younger than himself in the series. huh, never noticed that.

Code Geass is so much more interesting to watch than Guilty Crown, and the end is in no way anti-climax. The complexity of Lelouch's character is never paralleled by any character in Guilty Crown, not to mention the world view and dynamics between different parties in Code Geass. I would not go as far as to say Code Geass's influence is as big EVA or flcl, but you can tell the production team at least tried to make something serious. Guilty Crown however is just a knockoff of a series of popular anime at the time from the beginning to the end. They saw things like Code Geass made good sales and wanted to make some good cash; that's it. Inory and bios are beautiful, but the show just ain't it.

@@mmallowsmallows2575 you see that's MY problem with Shuus character: The show acts like and calls him human, but what human discovers trust and consent and than just goes brrr mentally because a friend died saving him, and im not even done: that friend who literally died saving him, being kind and telling him not to do what the others want (the establishment of the ranks) the death of HER drove him to the conclusion that her whole world view was whack and that he should do the opposite to what she and his best friend said. And finally he says that he didnt want her to have died in vain... How is that human or logical at all?

Humans after emotional trauma act on emotions especially if they blame themselves. I had similar situation in life. My girlfriend was kind, forgiving person who believed that everyone deserves a second chance. I was kinda opposite of her but I accepted her world views. One day her ex (he was a psycho) tried to murder me because I stood in the way of him getting back her but he failed. He got away from police and week later he shot me in shoulder and shot her in chest, she died. And now I blame myself for not killing him when he attempted to kill me because I didn't stick to my world views. Right after she died I came to conclusion that she was wrong about forgiving every single person and that shows that humans don't come to most logical conclusions when they literally lost a person who loved and cared about them.

I found this video after finally watching Guilty Crown. It's one of the few pieces of analysis out there, and it's really good. I hadn't actually thought about Code Geass while watching Guilty Crown because obviously by this point there's no discourse to really see about Guilty Crown and I saw Code Geass many many years ago. So it was really interesting to think about. In the end the title of the series very much sums it up. Guilty Crown. Shu was a coward king who in the end valued helping others at the expense of the greater whole, which is why Inori loves him I think because the whole plan of Mana is the opposite. Sacrifice everyone for the advancement and evolution of mankind. Shu rejects that evolution, instead choosing the present for as long as it will last, even if in the end nothing will be left and catastrophe won't be avoided. He was a coward to the end, which makes him at times a deeply romantic character, and maybe the show could have played that up even more. I think there's also a lot of parallels to be drawn with Evangelion and Shinji--though Shinji is much more anti-social than Shu. It's hard to see Shinji ever making the number of friends that Shu does.

Guilty crown was a beautiful anime its in my top 10 It was so emotional sad ending 😭❤️

as a solid lover of romance animes, i loved both of them equally. U got Code geass to fill my obsession with power and strategy, and then u got guilty crown for me to ship another two characters. the only reason i prefer code geass, is it would have been nice to see Shu die along side Inori in the end, code geass also has another season and a good movie to follow up.

Just realized half his mustache is shaved...now I can’t stop staring at it...

I never got around to finishing Guilty Crown. I got around episode 10 or 11, I think? and I really tried to continue but the main character annoyed me too much and I got a bit bored around then too. However, I believe if I ever tried to re-watch it again I might be able to get through it if I think of it as a response to Code Guess which I believe would make the experience more interesting, so thanks for this video.

I love guilty crown a lot when it out. And I like Shu as a main character.

I never thought it was a copy of Code Geass 😅 Which is great. I enjoyed the show for itself.

I was so excited when Guilty Crown first starting airing, for many of the reasons you cited; its focus on gorilla-tactic revolutionaries vs. a tyrannical government and the dissection of a "chosen hero" in Gai vs the "unwitting hero" in Shu, all of it was so promising. I really enjoyed bits and pieces of the series but felt after its halfway mark it became something utterly strange and divorced from its initial ideas and characterization. Some parts and character decisions were baffling because they seemed to be complete 180s compared to the earlier setup. The animation was gorgeous, the soundtrack kickass, and the character designs still stand on their own as fantastically memorable. I wish the story could've been better executed and Shu made to be a more likable/sympathetic character. I ended up wishing for that Code Geass Redo feeling in thinking, "I wish Gai had been the protagonist," which is never a good sign.

I also think this is more a question of what will the wrong person do and how will they grow after obtaining the power, and shows a linear path that actually goes through many of the options available that power can develop a person into. Coward, Entitled, Unsure but trying, Unsure and kind and trying, dictator, before ending with a character who is willing to take the full weight of all the heart's he's taken to the point of even taking a form of crystalizing cancer from others and bearing it himself, then even going blind in the end.

If you don’t mind me asking, what would you have done differently if you could remake GC?

guilty crown is one of my favorite animes tbh. love the characters, story, and especially the music.

I can't speak for others but personally when I watched the events just seemed like a series of coincidences that the characters were moving through. None of them felt like they had agency, not even in their cowardice. Although I noticed the similarities between Code Geass and Guilty Crown, they were only really ever in the same genre to me. I don't think I've really heard a criticism of Guilty Crown that went along the lines of comparing it to Code Geass before. I don't agree with the notion that two series of different IPs can be inseparably linked. Guilty Crown should be able to stand alone as its own story and message but it patently fails at doing that because of its confused writing. It's not a good show if it relies on the cultural context of another work to be used as a comparison against. At some point I saw someone describe Guilty Crown as "a really great album with some gorgeous accompanying visuals." and I honestly don't think it deserves higher praise than that. There are some excellent emotional moments, but the plot is entirely too confused and the many coincidences and inexplicable decisions that characters make just makes the whole thing impossible to be taken seriously as a whole.

I really love this analysis I would say code geass was objectively better But I subjectively loved Guilty Crown more than Code

I’ve seen both and well I have to say that the music in code geass pales in comparison to guilty crown besides the 1st op of code geass colors

hi i'm stumbling across your video on this literally like a year and a half after it came out but i think you made some really great points!! i'm someone that actually really enjoyed BOTH code geass and guilty crown, and honestly i thought that guilty crown was given a bit TOO much flack. gc, despite its faults, was still a compelling narrative to me that really Hit. and while code geass did the same - i dunno. i don't know how to really put it into words. great video tho : D glad i stumbled across your channel am gonna subscribe.

Makoto Waltz Segai was the most interesting villain. Because in the OVA we saw he was trying to find something isn't puppet to the world. New and untouched. But sadly having very little episode to focus more on explaining the characters of the story. And instead of showing through events to explain their message they use symbolism. Which is the cheap way of squeezing big story into smaller runtime. Since, an object or a single event and it's imagery is given meaning to. Like in the Akira movie.

I actually watched Guilty Crown before Code Geass and I like Guilty Crown more than Code Geass for some reason. I liked seeing Shu more than Lelouch. The Funeral Parlour characters were a lot more interesting and cooler than the Black Knights as well. I like the having the Voids and Apocalypse Virus aspect as well

I really agree with your analysis, but man do I hate Guilty Crown.

Great information! Upon discovering Guilty Crown, I surmised that the climactic "Return of the King" would be inevitable, given how Lelouch even uses his ability on himself. What that exactly meant for Shu was a mystery at the beginning, but it worked out decidedly well IMO.

I like both shows I prefer code Geass. I honestly believe guilty crown would have been received better if it had changed the ending slightly spoiler ahead If Shu died at the end I think it would have been better or alternatively have Inori survive in some fashion but left mute and keept Shu blind giving the ending a more hopefull spin while still showing the scars of some choices leave instead of just inverting code Geass ending.

I first watched guilty crown before code geass

Finally watched GC and it was excellent. While I get why I don't think I'd put them on the same level. GC is way more engrossing than Geass and that's largely due to Geass being based on a bigger scope compared to GC. I honestly did stop watching Geass after midway on the second season.

I had to pause the video to laugh the idea of Rivalz as the protagonist It's just throw me off so much, now I need to watch GC

Never seen Code Geass, but I did like what they did with the MC. It feels similar to Subaru in Re Zero where a loser is thrown into a world of gods

The funny thing is, I liked both anime. But, only Code Geass was in the realms of 'top anime'. What I loved about Guilty Crown wasn't so much its premise or anything along those lines, it's what it led to in a few key moments. I'd say most of the show was average, but when it came to putting out emotion, eliciting a response from viewers, it at times could manage it. Spoilers for Guilty Crown, Hare's Death and Shuu's reclaiming his void powers are still some of the most emotional scenes for me. With Hare, you have this thing I love that I've never seen done as well. You actually have the hero's love interest define why she loves him in this impactful way before dying to save him, and then as a result of her death, he goes in the exact opposite direction of what she loved about him. She loved his kindness, and her death led to him breaking. Meanwhile, when reclaiming his void, he's taking up the mantle for real, risking his life and dining it time he took on the traumas of everyone else's hearts rather than just using their hearts. I honestly feel both were enjoyable as wholes, don't get me wrong, but Code Geass more consistently could hit those emotional moments. Shirley, Nunnally opening her eyes... I would list out everything, but then this already grandiose comment would be even longer. My point is, both have their values. Yes, Code Geass has more value in my eyes, and Guilty Crown does follow it pretty closely, Guilty Crown also has some scenes that I think honestly led to my love for tragedy and what overcoming it means in writing.

I must be the weirdo here. I LOVED Guilty Crown and have gone through it several times. Oma's faltering hero stance makes me want to root for him more. When he turns to be more of an ass, we see it's because he is trying to imitate another ass (Gai). to protect and defend. I hated that it ended too quickly, and wasn't prepared for it.

I personally prefer Guilty Crown, I felt the protagonist was a thousand times more believable.

I wouldn't say it was "more believable" as a banished prince who raises a rebellion to get revenge on his family isn't too unbelievable. They both have a supernatural power that makes the mc unique, but Lelouch was as said a natural born leader, due to being born royalty more than likely, and was gonna raise a rebellion no matter what, but being 17 he gets the geass and he saw a crazy opening to go out and start way early at the perfect time, before all the Japanese rebellion was wiped out, making it easy for him to perform a miracle and take over as a leader and he was so smart he played everyone, even his own people. He was the craziest most calculated character out there in anime. Shu just was a bitch with power he wasn't supposed to get. Sure he was chosen by his sister who just happened to touch the meteor but he wasn't important before hand and even still he didn't actually become worthy of anything until the end and he became blind right after. He ran away constantly up until he was turned leader and it became too much, when he lost a friend he lost all control and became Hitler at a high school. He was a shit leader and a terrible person and by time he realized his flaws he lost his arm, went to kill his friend and sister to save the world, and becomes blind right after and pays for his dumbass mistakes, and never could do anything more. Both shows were good but guilty crown had less explanation about its world and other than that it did have a prettier design due to it being created later than code geass but story wise there wasn't too much there. By time you learn anything about the world in GUILTY CROWN shu is coming up to the end and they introduce that other void user and then tell you how they wanna turn everyone into objects and the government is down for this but thy don't explain why, or who this flying kid is, and they just leave you with a million more questions. Also with shu blind what happens to the genome? Does he keep it? Since it can be stolen from him, are there people after him? His sister might have been the one that was needed to turn the world, and she was shown to be reserected, so is that possible to happen again? If so is that other void user going to do it? What is the void genome really? And if everyone will turn into their voids after the song was sung would that include adults? If so why can't void users pull out adult voids? Code Geass leaves you with questions but not as many as Guilty Crown. I liked both shows but Guilty Crown was a Code Geass rip off. You know how people use initials to quickly type anime names out so if you do that for both these you get CG (Code Geass) GC (Guilty Crown) they did do things differently but they both had the female follower who knew most about the powers the mc had and they played key roles in their plans, inori was shus stronger void, and C.C was Lelouch's most powerful wepon as she saved his life countless of times when his geass wasn't enough, just like how shu couldn't get that far using the 4 stored voids in his arm at the end but once he got inori back he used her void alone and won. The parallels are there and its clear they just wanted to use the popularity of one show as a way to gain popularity on their show that they made using many ideas from the first show. I like them both as I said now 3 times so don't take this as hate but code geass is amazing and it was the first to do what it did. Its story is like no other and guilty crown is pretty much the same thing but with a more meek character that can't think much for himself and had to learn that the hard way. Lelouch always knew what he was doing and it was part of his plan. Shu didn't have a plan and he let gai tell him what to do, and when he was left to lead as I said he became Hitler and everyone turned on him, even the one he called leader. He had to receive pity from his friends and step mom to understand he could have always been better and do something. He finally gained a brain of his own at the very end. I was saddened that it wasn't better.

After watching Guilty Crown and then Code Geass 2 years later, I didn't notice the similarities because that's all they really are. Similarities. Both the shows are very different, very good things.

Although I prefer Code Geass over Guilty Crown I still find both stories enjoyable and fun to watch with both having amazing endings

code geass is my #1 anime and guilty crown is #3 XD
