@@calebgao6931 If you get it with a daya subscription plan, it's actually not that bad. I'm using the previous model and it's pretty fast for my use case. Of course, if you want to play heavy games on it, it will just about do okay, but I don't game on my phone so it hasn't been a concern. What is a big bonus is the ability to replace parts without replacing the whole phone. My previous smartphones have all had one single part broken/worn out (batteries!), but due to the designs and manufacturers not willing to sell parts, I had to buy a new phone each time even though most of the old device could still work.

I am loving this concept. Imagine the sales if Fairphone could open a shop or outlet in every city or country where the average person could just walk in or order modules according to their preferences. Better yet, if we could assemble our new phone according to our budget and preferences. For example, since I do not take pictures or videos much, I do not need super high-res pricey cameras. I could swap it out for a mid-range camera reducing the pricing a bit. I really hope it comes to this. Best wishes and good luck to Fairphone.

The QCM6490 (eqivalent to a 782G) has gotten its successor (QCM8550, eqivalent to an 8gen2) a few months ago. It is about twice as fast in terms of CPU and GPU performance while being able to use 12GB of RAM without a sacrifice in bandwidth. That could provide for a very nice (albeit expensive) upgrade package.

I love your approach! I try to use my phones for as long as possible, to limit e-waste, but also because I'm just lazy tbh. Worked pretty well for my last phone, the Pixel 2, which I used until it didn't receive updates anymore. Then I had to upgrade and went for the Pixel 6 Pro, hoping to use it for 5 years at least. But now, after less than 2 years, it has screen issues. Sending it to repair would be annoying and expensive. And I think it's just a mechanical issue, so why can't I just do it by myself? So now I hope it doesn't get worse. But if it dies, I'm strongly considering the Fairphone 5, you really got it right, it ticks pretty much all the boxes for me! The most important ones are long term support and repairability, and you really nail that! It's just a little big for my taste (similar to the Pixel 6 Pro, I really preferred the Pixel 2's size), and I hope the cameras/microphones are good enough because I got used to the Pixel's quality.

Imagine a phone that you can upgrade by simply swapping out parts as technology advances. Whether it's a new battery chemistry, camera sensor, chipset, or screen, this concept is truly remarkable! Fairphone has the potential to become the "Framework" of phones - a modular device that also looks sleek and beautiful.

Using an IoT-focused SoC for smartphone is mindblowing move! But sadly you don't give us headphone jack and charger anymore. I get your point, but it's nice to have option. Not all people have Power Delivery-compatible charger and i don't have bluetooth earphone/TWS yet. Edit: i don't know that Fairphone never include charger in the box since beginning. Sorry for that. But i still think giving user option is a good thing.

For wireless earbuds - i would honestly recommend some pq earbuds. They have magnetically attached batteries and two spare batteries within the case. So when you lose charge on the batteries you can just hot swap the earbud batteries out from the charger case and put the empty battery pair to recharge in the case as you continue to use the new battery sticks/continue using the earbuds. The microphone quality on those earbuds is not too great however...and in my experience the battery sticks last 3 hours before needing a recharge(as opposed to the 6 hours advertised). But the sound quality is good and the individual batteries or/and earbuds take ~30 mins to charge in the case. And you can ofc order new battery sticks from their website for when the supplied battery sticks degrade or if you lose/break them! The magnetic strength is also fairly solid so you don't have any real risks of the dropping off the earbud while wearing them, while at the same time not being so strong that they are difficult to hotswap. Despite their couple of flaws - due to the fact you can just hot swap the batteries out on the go and order spare batteries, they are by far some of the best earbuds i have ever bought!

I love the upgrades but I still would want to see IP67. An immersion resistant phone and a good case has saved me more times than I can count and has kept my iPhone XR running for years. Water resistance is the most important day to day factor for me just because one mistake and your whole device is out of commission.

Water is not that huge problem if you can remove the battery. It is completely fine to wash most of the phone internals with water and then dry them. The problem appears when you mix water and electricity, that most likely will cause corrosion. So, while it is not waterproof, it still have high chances to survive if handled correctly.

@@ryancoombs772 Adapters always add unnecessary problems. Compatibility, price, sometimes loss of quality. They brake, you lose them, you don’t have them around when needed… Those that can charge phone while listening, are hard to find, expensive and have even more problems. I already use adapters connected to audio jack, and now I need adapters of adapters ffs. I could understand it if 3.5mm jack was some expensive and hard to implement technology, but it isn’t. Reasons given by fairphone are pure marketing BS. People who don’t need audio jack probably won’t notice if it’s included or not, but for people who use it regularly it’s game changer.

That's fixed with a small adapter, if you really want to use the headphone jack. USB-C is a universal port, which is easier and more efficient to integrate as a module. Also better to make dust and waterproof. An USB-C port is also a lot smaller. An OLED screen isn't that easy to introduce as a module, it's thinner and probably other issues. TL;DR, you can still use your 3.5mm headphone.

I'm sorry but the lack of a headphone jack and having the camera notch get turned into an actual punchhole camera is just a huge no for me. I don't like phones following modern trends and I honestly think still this is such a stupid idea. The other things are really great but for me it's really important to have a headphone jack honestly. And having the camera literally in the screen is just annoying to look at.
