I have a service dog and it's the same bond. What your dog does for you while your out is soo amazing. Being disabled you feel alone but with your dog you never feel alone.

I like that this video shows someone that clearly has some sight using a guide dog, since people often assume that cane and guide dog users are totally blind when most are not.

I love all dog breeds, but you just can't deny the intensely loyal and sweet personalities of retrievers.

Don is an amazing person! My Dad used to train dogs for LAPD and he taught me to recognize that every dog was bred to have a job. You have to know what your dogs job is and allow them to do it. Otherwise, they will become neurotic. Guide dogs know their job and enjoy the heck out of doing it. As long as they have their vest, or harness on, they’re working and off limits. When it’s off... it’s play time. Lol

Im crying tears of beautiful and happiness... the bond i have with my kūri is amazing but i truly cant even imagine how much more amazing this bond is!!! ❤❤❤

There's a puppy walker (I think) at my school. She gets the puppies used to a school environment and gives them treats when they listen and do well. I loved going to math just because I knew Radar would be there and I could stare at his sweet squishy face. Radar was specifically for detecting seizures and I don't know what he's doing now but I love him.

It's called puppy raiser. And shes getting them used to preforming highly trained obedience and tasks in a school environment as well as different types of public access. Puppy raisers are responsible for most of the intensive training

We are very lucky to have the ADA in the US. service and guide dogs are protected and allowed in public by law.

So touching! I cried a bit. I miss my lab - she wasn´t a guide dog, but we shared a special bond. Thank you for the video.

This is the most beautiful documentary I have ever seen on working dogs. Lost my black labrador Carlotta one year ago, she turned almost 17. And yes, they are such confident decision makers and beautiful souls, inside and out. It''s a bond for live.

FinoAllaFine Yes. That’s true. In the last 200 years dogs’ life expectancy has dropped dramatically. Breeding dogs to such tight standards for the show ring has caused terrible health issues for dogs. Few live to old age now. Almost all Burnese mountain will die from cancer. It’s now a genetic trait for them just like the white cross on their chest. Bulldogs can no longer be born without c section. Allvdalmatuon with the show ring “nickel sized” spots, will go deaf and 89% will have urinary tract cystals. Our desire for purebred “show” quality pets has created a market for perfect looking dogs and have destroyed the dogs health. The worst health appears to be for “designer dogs”. This is a mix of two purebreds to create a specific mix. These can end up with the inherited genetic diseases of both breeds. Dogs who used to live to 18 - 20 years now live 12 -14 years. Dogs have been wonderful friends to humans but we haven’t done the best by our friends. We give them easier lives then they used to have but breed them for looks not action, feed them commercial, unhealthy foods and fail to give them satisfying work and enough exercise.

Definitely reminded me of my late dog named Sarah. Her nickname was Beautiful Girl. She was a 13 year old Cavalier King Charles spaniel and the sweetest, friendliest dog you could wish for. It’s been nearly 20 years and I never stop missing her. ❤️ 🐾

Dogs keep me sane

Awww crud... those last few minutes made me TOTALLY try not to bawl like a baby!!! Losing a pet is hard, but a companion like that... I can't imagine.

Over the last few years I've been slowly warming up to getting a guide dog. I love dogs, but I had a teacher with some very twisted opinions on guide dogs in middle school. He'd be like "They're for working, you can't give them any love or you might as well flush that $40000 dog down the toilet!" So for the rest of my teenage years, I didn't want to hear a word about guide dogs in protest. I know better now, though... Still, I'm kind of afraid of when that right time is. I still live at home, and live rurally. Last year, I was in a dorm for college and kind of felt it'd be cruel to have a guide dog stuffed in a dorm room with me, even if I did get out and walk a lot. I basically feel like all that training would be wasted until I'm more active, hopefully get accepted to grad school, get a job, etc etc. Still, I'm more open to the idea than I was. I seriously started considering guide dogs again when I was camping with family and we were taking our dogs on a nighttime walk. I had left my cane in the car and felt quite a bit more comfortable on the dark terrain with the dog on the leash than on my own, at which point I jokingly asked for my guide dog back. I'm very partial to poodles, as we have 4 of them, but I know that sort of match isn't very common unless you get your guide dog from specific places and have alergies. I love dogs in general, though, and at the end of the day it's not the breed, but the match that matters. I'm rambling, but anyway it's so nice to see more of how guide dogs can positively impact people.

I mean you cant even give eye contact to these dogs when working. So ya 40k can be wasted when the dog learns new bad habits. When they are not working its completely fine to play and love

Guide dogs look so sad, beautiful and serious as if bearing heavy burden of responsibility for the whole world and not only their human. All dogs are special to their owner and sometimes one never gets over loss of their dog that bond is so underestimated.

It is said that guide dogs for the blind not only help walking, but also help their partners' psychological and emotional independence. It's so cool. We support blind people and officials who are still challenging the world despite inconvenient conditions, as well as great active guide dogs, candidate dogs, and retired dogs

They should really make it clear and emphasize the importance to volunteer walkers from the beginning that dogs do not lead the way, you lead the way, they walk next to you.

I am no expert in guide dogs however I think that they are actually encouraged to do that/it is okay because later they have to walk in front of you and lead the way in order to be guiding the blind person. I am very aware that a normal dog shouldn't do that however this is a future guide dog and I am sure the woman who did the check up would have told her if she did it wrong

But I don't know that I just imagined that to be the reason because I was also wondering. Especially because the dogs need to make decisions in the end and can't trust their owner to do that for them when the dogs are working.

Tearing up as I watched this ...these beautiful dogs and the people that are committed training them ,must be so hard to give them up for sure ..Its never easy losing a pet that you have loved and bonded with for so many years 😢I’ve always grown up with dogs and now I rescued them from kill shelters in California and bring them back to Canada and find them good loving homes 🥰

Joy Ross here on youtube retired her guide dog Antonia and got another one called Arabella so that while Antonia wants to guide still, she can live out her last few years peacefully. The only sad part is that when she was calling Arabella to come get her harness on Antonia kept trying to get in it, and since she's no longer Joy's guide she can't wear it or it would confuse Arabella

ETA: It's funny, I wrote this comment years ago. I do now know that there are autism assistance dogs. I don't know that my daughter would do well with one. We've gotten a cat and she bothers the cat quite a bit. Maybe as she matures it'll be something we could consider. ================= I love this! What beautiful dogs! My daughter has a vision impairment and we're just now learning more about it. She just turned six years old and is about to start using a long cane. I had no idea a cane would help her as she normally has always just flung herself everywhere, running all the time, sometimes eloping. She does so much that it's hard to tell how bad her vision is. She even does ballet, though she's having a difficult time coping in a new class these days. It was explained to me that some kids just figure, hey, I can't see it anyway, might as well just dive right in! And she does! Turns out she also has very little peripheral vision if any at all. When given the cane, she slowed waaaay down and investigated the different textures on the floor she'd never seen before. I had no idea. To complicate things, she also has sensory processing disorder and level 1 autism. I wonder at what age kids can get a guide dog and if there are dogs who could help those with not only vision impairment, but autism too?

Your daughter seems perfect for the Mira foundation. They have programs in the USA and Canada. They train both guide dogs and autism assistance dogs. They train the dogs for children aged 11 to 16. Your should apply for your daughter now because it takes many years to train the dog. If you have any questions don’t be afraid to ask.

Unless we've owned dogs we don't really know how intelligent they can be. I've owned 2 and now have my 3rd (4 yr old Pug). Very smart as well. Good temperament. Loves to meet other dogs and people open to dogs. It kills me when I on rare occasion see abusive owners. E.g. I once saw this girl kick her dog in the chest simply because her dog wanted to meet my dog. What I wanted to do would have landed me in jail. Took so much restraint that day. For a dog to be a person's "eyes". To give a person a freedom they might have had once. To be able to navigate situations and obstacles that could get both injured or killed....then to one day have to "say goodbye" to this special friend. I can't imagine. As they were or are more essential than a dog that doesn't perform as a "guide dog". As much as most of us love them in either case. As mentioned...there is probably an even stronger connection between dog and owner when the dog is a "guide dog"...sort of a must. Dogs. Maybe the "best" animal that can be paired with a human. They can be so human too. They just can't talk. Which reminds me of a short film called "If I could talk"...available on KZread. Life without a dog is...

This is cool. The guide dogs are trained the same way in New Zealand as they are here in the United States

Like I stated previously, ALL of these groups are monitored by humane organizations such as the ASPCA and the Animal Humane Society, as well as several rescue groups. Frankly, I don't believe you even know what you're talking about. Produce some actual legal cases, legitimate media accounts, etc to support your claims. BTW, try actually educating yourself on a topic you seem to know so little about. A good place to start would be akc.org. You might actually learn something. 🙄

Any company that doesn't allow dogs shouldn't be allowed to operate. Anyone who doesn't want dogs in public areas or businesses shouldn't be allowed in public. People are terrible dogs are wonderful. I value dogs lives 1,000X more than anyone else

Purely possitive training is a joke.

I petted a dog in a que in my local supermarket. The woman yanked its head off and told me not to, as it was a working dog. The woman had no physical problems and could certainly see and hear so I was confused with that..... I will never give to this cause and would encourage others not to until the right decision makers make the right decisions to give these beautiful dogs to responsible owners. There is obvious cruelty going on - as this organisation is not exempt from these types of problems.unfortunately some people fall through the net....

Cerri Berry Why would you just go up to any dog and pet it without asking? Obviously if it’s in a supermarket it’s a working dog. Just because they have to visible disabilities doesn’t mean they’re disabled. There are many types of service dogs for invisible disabilities like , diabetic alert dogs, allergen alert dogs, mobility support dogs, cardiac alert dogs, psychiatric alert, response dogs, and many more. Don’t judge a book by its cover. Also what do you mean by “yanked it’s head off”

Danielle 1244 I mean she was soo rough it was not acceptable. The dog was not working she was waiting for her groceries to be paid for they were on the convaour belt. The dog was extraordinary lovely and looked up at me with such sad looking eyes I just bent down and touched its head lightly and smiled . THEN AFTER she bent down in my face with such malice and told me not to touch it.......then she pulled the dog a bit nearer to her and then, YANKED it's head off enough for others to look in disgust. So don't patronise me I'm not stupid I no when an animal is being mis treated. I was at a loss and a little shock up at what she did.......disgusting. Like I said I would now never give to this course and will make an effort to make sure I can encourage others not to! What I really wanted to do is yank HER head off and she how she likes it. Anyway how are we sure all these dogs are happy in this kind of work. I suppose they don't really have a choice at the end of the day do they?! Well I DO 🙏🏻

Cerri Berry The people who train the dogs make sure that they like to work. If they don’t like to work they are given a different job or adopted out as a pet. When the dog is in public it’s always working. You can’t tell if a dog is working or not. Many dogs have invisible jobs. Diabetic alert dogs are always working because they need to always be ready to alert their handler. I’m not surprised she was rough because as a grown adult you should know not to pet some random dog in the supermarket. People who have service dogs have to deal with this all the time and its frustrating. Most of the time the dog has a vest that clearly says “do not pet” or “do not distract”. Imagine going on a 5 minute grocery run to just get milk and bread and getting stopped 10 times because someone’s petting your dog or asking to pet or saying “aww puppy” or doing kissy noises at them. This could endanger someone’s life. I know when you think of what happened you think “wow she was rude” but the handlers thinks “omg what if my dog just missed an alert. Am i gonna pass out in a few min? Am i going to have a seizure?” The dog has “sad” eyes because it’s trained to be calm. It’s not sad. Dogs don’t express their emotions in their face. You’re endangering they’re life because of petting the dog she has every right to be rude to you. Oh and the reason for “yanking the dogs head off” which i can tell is very dramatic sounding, that’s called a correction. The dog got distracted by you and shouldn’t have so he was corrected. So the dog got in trouble because of you. I do hope you realize you’re in the wrong here.

Danielle 1244 I'm not asking you for an explanation or any answers. She was in THE WRONG. We're u there? NO! She was cruel and mistreated the dog. END OF. So take your stupid opinions and shove them up your ass. Everyone on the supermarket that was near could see what she did and we're all disgusted. There is a way you correct dogs and it IS NOT showing them violence. Anything else you are failing to see? Your tunnel vision, ego and your snobbery are getting in the way....once again read what I have wrote. Do you really think your going to teach me something? Your ignorant too....I will be working hard to stop this kind of mistreatment and I have already stopped some people from donating to this course and I will carry on doing so. I suggest you go and put a dog collar on and although I would love to I can't - get someone to yank your head off at a violent pace then see how you like it? If she broke its neck it wouldn't be any good to anyone. In fact you would probably hand over another one. What an awful life these dogs must have......shocking!

Cerri Berry Funnily enough the service dog facebook group i posted your comments to thought you would respond this way. I thought that you could grow as a person an accept your mistake but clearly i was wrong. I hope that next time you distract a service dog and it kills or injures the handler the manslaughter charge will change your mindset. Clearly your someone who takes no responsibility for your actions including harming others. It’s a shame people like you live in our society. Have a good day.
