    FAZ, you blow my mind! I avg ~23s, pb 13.8s but I always tell people who are ~40s to just slow down! Watch the cube, because watching is the best way of learning what's going on. My PB felt so slow while I was doing it! I'm 45 now, and only learnt to solve a couple of years ago. I've had numerous finger breaks/dislocations in my life, so I just can't operate a cube as fast as you young guys. 15-18s avg is my target. You're an inspiration, mate! Loved your keyhole video!

    What I tend to do rather than just timing algs for practise is to use stuff like the OLL/PLL training algs on qqtimer and stuff. I don't look at the cube when I'm scrambling until the last couple of moves or so, and start the timer p. much as soon as I finish scrambling. That way the whole grip problem is mostly avoided and you get free recognition practise too. Would you say that is a better approach?

    As I am 3 days into cunning and my avg solve time is 2:01 I am probably safe to assume I am in the wrong place :P. I want to learn this oll pll stuff but I can't solve my cross through memorization of moves. What is the best way to practice solving my cross by pre deciding my moves? Do I need to become 100% familiar with what each singular move will do to each singular piece? That sounds like it will take more than the 15s of look time.

    i think my weakest point (other than not knowing enough algorithems for LL) is my cross, what is the best practice for that other than just doing cross over and over again

  • @jonathanlin66

    @jonathanlin66

    8 жыл бұрын

    Cross is the most difficult part of the cube for beginner speedsolvers to do proficiently. For one, it requires understanding of the relationship of pieces and how they interact with one another. Even F2L can be solved without knowing these relationships through a combination of spoonfeeding and recognition of basic cases. Even though I advocate trying to figure out a solution by yourself, cross can be difficult, so I'll waive my morals. Watch badmephisto's video on advanced cross solving. Not only does he describe the processes for solving cross more efficiently, but he nails the concept of piece relationships as well. Watch it. Try to apply it. Watch it again. How do I apply these? you may ask. Simple. Go to qqtimer. in settings, change the timer setting to "typing". Select the scramble option as 3x3. Congrats, you now have random scrambles you can access through pressing the enter button. Scramble your cube. Once you have done so, take as much time as you need to to answer, "How can I solve this cross in the most efficient way possible? You can always do it in less than 8 moves. If you don't see how, watch badmephisto's video again. Rinse and repeat. It's tough, but with focused practice you can get this down in no more than 3 weeks if you practice this for 15mins a day. Gradually increase your tps for these crosses from 1 tps smooth to 6 to8 tps. This takes longer to incorporate into a real solve because of f2l lookahead. If you've followed my instructions you should have a 1 second cross.

    Hey Feliks, I have noticed in other videos that you have said practice is the key to improving, but I practice a few hours a day and I am using somewhat look ahead, but averaging about 25 seconds. It is taking me a LONG time to get faster. I started cubing early January this year and I am not getting faster at the pace I would want. I use 2-look oll and pll and f2l and advanced cross, and everything I can to get faster. Any tips besides practice? Because practice is not helping. It helps me improve a little, but only about 2 seconds a week at the most. Thanks.

    Start learning full PLL. It does help. Also, do slow solves and solidify your f2l cases. if a case is slow or taking you a long time to execute, find an alg online for that case. also, plan out your WHOLE cross during inspection

    You're improving your average 2 seconds a week and you are unhappy? If you can maintain that progression you will be sub 20 in 3 weeks, and sub 15 in 8 weeks. Granted, learning full oll and pll will allow for greater potential for improvement, but that sort of progress is not bad. Be patient. You won't get fast overnight.

    just have to practice the colours you aren't used to and just get used to one at a time. the same way you learned f2l in the first place

    NO, don't learn ZBLL right after OLL and PLL, I would suggest learning COLL first just so you know how to recognise things like that. ZBLL is around 500 algorithms, COLL only about 40. You could see COLL as the 2-look version of ZBLL.

  • @spacevspitch4028

    @spacevspitch4028

    Pick a different color each week and solve only from that color. Like, say you always do white cross and you can't break put of the habit. So just decide you're only going to solve blue cross this week. Or instead of a specific timeframe, just practice that color until you're comfortable with what that looks like and you no longer get confused. Then move onto another color. To be a little more systematic about it, maybe do opposite colors. So, if you always do white, switch to yellow. Then maybe go blue/green, then red/orange. Eventually you'll be just as comfortable from any color and no longer get lost. Also, learn to really solidify in your mind what color you're solving from at the beginning. Like, "ok, I'm gonna do red cross, so LL is gonna be orange" and make sure you log that firmly in your mind so you can maintain that orientation throughout and not get lost.

    Also, I realize your comment was from 3 years ago and you've probably already worked on it in your own way and are color neutral now. But I just wanted to get my thoughts out on it 😛
