This is a great 'psychopath' movie. Anne Baxter is great as the manipulative psychopath, you can really see how it works. They are everywhere in our society, now. Allowed to fill the highest positions in all the world's business activities. Hell-of-world.

I heard it and the captions confirmed it: "Would you mind terribly if I asked Hilda to fumigate in here?' The title could have easily been "The Guest From Hell."

it takes to tangle, any decent husband would never bring another woman into the home and knowing his wife doesn't want her there, if my hubby did that to me he would be divorced.

  • @cynthialyman2636

Anne Baxter basically reprised this role when she played the manipulative and conniving Eve Harrington a few years later in the Academy Award Winning film "All About Eve" starring the incomparable Bette Davis. But in this picture, the writers got 'inside the head' of a true psychotic narcissist, as Anne's character reads from and writes her twisted thoughts in her diary. Her behavior is then a logical manifestation of her evil intent. This movie very delicately classifies her as 'unstable.'. A more accurate description might be: dangerous.

l suppose Ralph Bellamy was too rugged looking to qualify as a Hollywood handsome leading man, but he sure could act. And the lovely Ruth Warrick went on to have long career in daytime TV, starring in, I believe, All my Children. l apologize ahead of time if I'm mistaken about that: l'm afraid I never watched soaps.

This is a disturbing movie all around! Delusional Dan stupidly brings a deranged psychotic woman into his relatives home for a visit and leaves her there to wreck their lives. After she does her dirty deal on them at least the couple understand that she is very sick and take it upon themselves to admit her to a sanitarium paying her expenses no less. But, in the end the aunt feeds Evelyn's phobia and pushes her mentally to suicide to escape her fear. What a horrible thing to do!
