I served as an officer in the U.S. Army for 21 years. The Captain Picard character was an inspiration to me. He did what leaders do; he helped people. He was reasonable, measured, conscientious, and he always kept good faith with those who served with him.

I grew up with TNG, and at the time it started I really had some quite serious behavioural issues (partly due to an extremely abusive childhood, combined with being autistic). I think I was really turning into a cruel person. But then Captain Picard gave me the role model I never had in real life, and he, and the show as a whole gave me the solid foundation of ethics and philosophy that let me develop into the person I am today.

I’d love to know your thought process on how you’ve come to this conclusion but I’m assuming it’s perhaps because I’m calling out Pete for his shady politics on a thread overwhelming complementing his ability to host a late night show. His blushing smile was genuine and when he did the quiz show he was that 15 yr old nerd again. Donations from millionaires and richer amounted to about 0.1% of donations. Like Bernie, he accepted no money from corporate PACS or anyone connected with fossil fuels. Your whole story about Pete's selling out to corporations is a LIE.

Not gonna lie, this is actually better than the regular show. The guest wasn’t rushed through the interview and had time to speak without interruption. Just get rid of the screaming people in the audience, and it would actually be an improvement from the old, outdated talk show format.

It’s so primitive, immature and outdated. There’s a reason why everyone listens to podcasts now a days. They can go for hours without commercials, the guests actually have time to talk and relax, no censorship, and there’s no noisy jackass audiences acting like every single sentence said is the funniest and most profound thing ever said. On shows like this, the guest can just say “I like hot dogs” and the audience goes crazy like it’s the greatest thing ever said. It’s completely brain dead, fake and stupid.

I love how honored and happy Mayor Pete looked when Sir Patrick asked, "May I call you Pete?" That must have been kind of surreal for him. I love that he got that signed picture and script; I'm a little jealous, but it's Mayor Pete, and that makes me happy. What a great guest host he was. I hope he does this again.

I wouldn't go that far. Maybe as a tv show host he'd be fine. As a politician he just spoke in empty platitudes and had no support from PoC.

Pete handles this very well; the average person has no idea what a tight rope act it is to lead a talk show: be a great listener, respond in the moment, etc. As Patrick Stewart said, it's Pete's natural, unrehearsed ability to respond, just as he did in his rallies.

I didn't think it was possible to adore Patrick Stewart more after he made a point of shaking my 9 year old daughter's hand several years ago at Calgary Comic Expo, but dammit, he did it! Pete, don't leave politics for a talk show...your voice is sorely needed in American politics.

Pete is a natural! The most polished performance of any guest host I have seen

@@ax2108 IMHO it was. he was genuinely interested in the answers, he didnt rush through it, he didnt try to make it funny just to be funny, he let the guest speak.

Damn, that's an awesome gift! Also from a classic episode (the one the Enterprise gets trapped in a void and there's this weird alien entity doing experiments on the crew... And also asking them to bone so it can watch).
