PastO is meal in Italian. Pasti is the plural. Antipasto is "before the meal". Antipasti is the plural. Anti is the classic prefix that both means before and against.

I’m surprised they claimed to not know that anti/ante meant before, since that’s the case in so many languages, including Italian, Spanish, and especially Latin, which would influence modern day English!! Like they really thought it meant “against/excluding the pasta(meal)”? Hard to believe they weren’t just saying that, for the bit. 😅😂

I've never been more interested in kangaroo anatomy than when watching this.

In Italian, "anti-" and "ante-" are both just "anti-", and "pasto" is from the Latin word for food or a meal, like the English "repast". "Pasta" is an unrelated word originally borrowed into Latin from Ancient Greek and it just meant "paste" or something similar.
