Also it's a big misconception that most of us are mixed (usually mistaken as mixed with Spanish. But it's true that a lot of us are of mixed but usually mixed with Chinese rather than Spanish.

Well that's because you're guessing, you can also take into account current trends, and even delve into psychological reasons. People like to put themselves in the same shoes as others and through that some people use it to base their guesses. Like how some of them came to a conclusion that older people generally are more natural. There's really no set of rules and it's just a guessing game, I don't see why we need to go after someone's thought process like we can change it.

The creators of this segment should have chosen Filipino people with diversity - not just celebrities, not just those in their 30s-40s, not just those based in METRO MANILA, and not just half-Filipinos. The girls guessing are smart because they are making educated guesses, as I would, armed with the knowledge that Filipinos/Asians typically look younger than their real age. They therefore upped their numbers a lot more. It would be nice to throw them off their educated guesses by actually showing a fun mix of full-blooded & half-Filipinos with a very wide age range, hailing from different provinces of the Philippines, and to use more natural looking photos, not just magazine/editorial shots. That would be more entertaining to watch and the lady guests would probably be thrown off their A-game. Not that that is the point of this video. I think the point of this video is to fish for compliments honestly, but I think it backfired because of their educated guesses. Wouldn't it have been so much nicer if the producers asked this host to be saying things like, "This person actually is from Pampanga, where a lot Chinese or Spanish heritage is seen, etc." OR people from Baguio and they live up in the mountains - so they always have rosy cheeks or something. I dunno, something that will add cultural knowledge to the guests & viewers. Is it just me or does anybody else feel the same? Clearly, I have enough time to type this long. Lunch break is over! LOL

I think some people often exaggerate how mixed the Phillipines is and how influential the Spanish were. The average Filipino doesn’t have a drop of Spanish blood, there is just a preference for putting half European people on pedestal and that’s why there are so many mixed celebrities in the Philippines.

I do have mixed ancestry, but I'm not mixed culturally (from other countries but my family comes from different parts of the Philippines) and my foreign ancestry is a small percentage. I agree. It's like dismissing what native Filipinos look like. It annoys me especially when I go to a Filipino store. They're amazed that I'm part Filipino and speak bisaya/Tagalog or how interesting that my Lola's family came via Mexico which leads to the pinoys at the store claiming Spanish ancestry too. Some of them are victim of parents or mostly lolos and specially lolas who claimed to had a Spanish blood because of having a Spanish surname. I don't blame them but it sick that they become more happy if anyone knows that they have half blood over being a pure native. I myself don't claim that even though I look like having some foreign blood because of my eye color and skin complexion that kinda standout somehow. I like to be more native coz that's what made me more a Filipino.

We still have that colonial mentality that the closer to european our features are, the prettier we are. That’s why there’s a lot of half Filipino celebrities. But I think, Kathryn and Nadine have both filipino parents, not sure of the extent of their mix (probably mixed parents but born and raised in the Philippines)
