Guerlain "MITSOUKO" Fragrance Review

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

One of the best examples of a classic chypre formula, it's worn today as much as it was since it's release in 1900's

Like the heavenly L''Heure Bleue, Mitsouko is a true masterpiece. I do not wear it often, but I find I crave it on chilly, damp, grey rainy days. It shines especially beautifully on those days for me. LB and Mitsouko are just two reasons why no other house has ever beaten or will ever beat Guerlain as far as I am concerned. :)

Guerlain are pretty special. And paved the way for so many other brands! Their newer stuff isn’t so great I don’t think but their vintages? Wowzers.

@@ouch110 The back catalog is the stuff of legends, and I agree a lot of the newer fragrances are not very remarkable compared to the legends like L'Heure Bleue, Mitsouko, Apres L''Ondee, Vol de Nuit,Chamade, etc., but I think some of the more recent fragrances are quite good, e.g. Angelique Noir, L'Insant, and, the utterly fabulous Encens Mythique. If you have not done it so far, you should get your nose on Encens Mythique. :)

Wow, Tom! Such a perfect timing for this review, I really enjoyed it! And pretty funny, too On my skin the peach isn't prominent, and I'm happy about it, cause I don't like fruity notes at all. However, this one has a peculiar magic of its own - the only chypre I've met that I liked, not at once, after a few takes I sort of understood what it's all about and now I'm thinking of getting a small bottle. It is intriguing. And it requires respect and thought, a mature approach. And also, to my nose, this cool spring weather complements this mysterious fragrance really nicely, I feel an elegant trail lingering from my silk scarf, and it makes me smile inside, just like this video did. Thank you! xx

Superb to see you reviewing some of the REAL, TRUE classics Tom. I use all the "oldies" out there. I love Estee Lauder Knowing, Clinique Aromatics Elixir (not now though, but as it USED TO BE - its now a watered down shell of the original formula). Chanel Coco. I find the high street perfumes of today cannot even TOUCH the fragrances of, say, the 70's and 80's. Many young girls pass me by, all wearing the same "plasticky" sweet, cheap smelling scent out there today. LOVE Mitsouko Tom. I'd be VERY interested to hear what you think of DIVA by Ungaro!! Great review; I personally love all the history in addition to discussion on the notes and personal analysis of the scent. I'm going to have to dig mine out today and check it out again. I love classic Guerlains, but this one is truly "mysterious"! I have an '80s edition, and maybe it's that reformulation, but there is a stuffiness about it that makes it a tad intimidating for me, and I never get the peach that I would like. Again though, a very thorough and excellent review! Definitely will look at more of your videos. :)

@@stuartlee6622 Pff, 1) every Harlow fan knows that Harlow used Mitsouko. 2) And this is an info from a big perfume blog that was a comment for "Henry and June" movie: Anaïs Nin (Maria de Medeiros) puts on some perfume. The bottle she holds is clearly the flacon bouchon coeur by Raymond Guerlain. The perfume she uses is Mitsouko, launched in 1919. It was her signature scent, along with Caron Narcisse Noir. So it's NOT Shalimar, and NOT L'Heure Bleue. And it's "L'Heure BleuE", use your brains sometimes before writing anything, ok?

My mom got me a bottle of Mitouko in august of this year and I love it more as the seasons progress. This is a strange perfume, it changes character and the order/intensity of notes depending on time of day and, so far, time of year! When I very first put a spritz on my wrist it was rather jarring. It definitely begins with that old timey chypreness but has an additional aspect... it's akin to the way weed, marijuana that is, used to smell in the late 90s. It wasn't as skunky in those days, so that unique and sweet aroma wasn't drowned out by skunk. Then as it how on, it changes, as any good scent does. From chypre to a succulent floral. A floral mixed with rough, for lack of a better word, peach. Then the delicate powder, then a rich amber incense. All throughout is something else I can't quite put my finger on, but I love it. It's definitely one of my all time favorites.

_In the olden days_ laughing .Your delivery was funnnnny I was sitting inside DQ, Dairy Queen , yesterday having my ice cream and the song My Sweet Lord by George Harrison came on . I was sampling Acqua di Parma's Colonia Essenza and a thought of how incredible the song was written came to mind. Then I thought of how long this house, AdP, has been around. Then I thought of Beethovan's 9th , the Sistine Chapel architecture and artwork. I thought of how beautiful and passionate the flamenco guitar is, I used to play it, or how wonderful the song Greensleeves is. All the while I kept smelling the Colonia. Yes, the one I had on was from 2010, but the house of Acqua di Parma has been around since 1916. My conclusion was the same as yours, somethings just stand the test of time because of how well they are done. I still love new music like Glass Animals etc, along with new fragrances, but I can't reject something just because it is dated. I have a gorgeous collection of ABP Cut Glass. ABP stands for the American Brilliant Period. It fell out of favor in the collectors circles , and the millennials like their travel and minimalism , and because of that, I have a great collection for next to nothing. So, don't let beauty pass you by because of what the general populace deems what is,and what isn't . Nobody liked Mexican House Jewelry for awhile, and now, well they just can't get enough of it. Do you think you will sample MDCI's Chypre Palatin ?

Oh Tom, I watched this with the biggest smile on my face!!! I've been waiting sooo long for this review! I'm wearing Mitsouko (edp) today...I absolutely love Mitsouko!!! I wear this more often than just about anything I have. It also performs better than most any other fragrance I have ever tried. The only floral that I detect in this is ylang-ylang. I get quite a bit of vetiver as well. Besides that, I would say this review was spot on, and it does smell very rich, also sexy, and as the name suggests... mysterious! I had a guy tell me once while I was wearing Mitsouko that he couldn't breath too deeply around me or he would not be able to control himself. I agree with Turin on this one...it is very likely the best fragrance ever made!!! As a side note, in case people are wondering, I think Mitsouko is completely unisex. Thank you Tom for going for it and reviewing this amazing fragrance. ❤️❤️❤️ Also, if you enjoy this give Femme Rochas a go. The scent is glorious, but I give fair warning that the performance is atrocious. I so wish they would bring that one back in a edp or pure parfum...I would have to have it!!!

Yayyyy! Ya know you are the second person to mention this Rochas one, now I'm intrigued for sure. Maybe I'll have to try and hunt some down. Oh gosh..he Mitsouko magic worked on that guy right? haha. Love it. i think I need a baby sized cute bottle just to fit into my collection.

I think you will love the scent of Femme Rochas but like I said the performance is awful. The company told me it has been discontinued but it's still available. If they brought it back in a stronger concentration it would likely be my signature. It's similar to Mitsouko but fleshier, spicier...it smells like sex in a bottle...you should definitely try it...just know it doesn't last long at all!

I adore Mitsouko. It’s been my signature since 2018. I do receive compliments, often toward the 6-10 hour mark. Just 1-2 spritzes of edp. Intoxicating 😋😋

Is there a sweetness to the one you're testing? There was a sweetness to the Mitsouko I owned in 79. That sweetness is not in the current Edp nor the EdT unfortunately. Still, a beautiful chypre even in it's current form. I love your reviews Tom😊

This isn't a modern perfume but at all! Nostalgia doesn't allow me to think whether I like it or not. This is a VERY nostalgic and imo a very melancholic perfume. This and pretty much anything with oakmoss as a first note. It kinda reminds me of old-fashioned soap.

This is my signature scent ..... wearing it for over 40 years.... yes I am Old! LOL It has been reformulated but its not too bad - many perfumes that have been changed over the years do not smell a thing like they used to , but Mitsouko , in my opinion - is OK..... not as Rich as it used to be and the EDT - yuk. Buy the EDP ! I have to say .... people either like it or not .......still ....look around the department store and I bet you cannot find another perfume that could be a dupe of it! Ha!

The edt of this lasts over 24 hours, which is nuts for an edt... I absolutely love it - it opens portals to the past... Charlie Chaplin wore it!! Could totally understand why a young person might flee from it. I don't really like florals, but this is deep and powdery and just delicious!! It lingers without being clingy or cloying...
