2014-Gamora was more energetic, bubbly and violent here than 2018-Gamora. Also, Rocket’s backstory is probably the MCU’s most mature story in film to date.

@@luckyplvystbh I definitely felt this was way darker than anything we've seen before... Tony being kidnapped will always be a huge beat change but this...this was vile...yet beautifully tragic story telling of one of our favorite characters. I could be wrong but this will stick with me mentally for a long time as how dark the MCU can get

I think High Evolutionary's screaming was fitting mainly due to the fact that one of his primary criteria for a successful batch was lack of aggression. So, when he himself showed aggression by screaming, he subconsciously admits his own imperfection as a specimen, just like in the experiments he rejects or discards. Maybe it was me but he seemed to scream more near the latter half of the movie when he was closer to failure. So, whenever he screamed, he felt himself as one of the failed batches. Maybe its not that deep lol

By the third movie - one of things people are not talking about is how competent they are as a team when they're full on fighting or in action. That showed actual progress. They may bicker when not in combat mode but when they get to it, they're now a level beyond. The villain was not a real problem to them. They seem to always have an advantage which is something different. It's other stuff that keeps them struggling.

  • @vandalg282

    @vandalg282

To be fair, they were always good as a team...kinda the point in 1. They learn from each other immediately...especially with Rocket and Groot, they all learn to rely on each other...hence the ending of part 1...and even more so in the sequel. The problem here is that Warlock literally one shots them in the beginning, which works as a cheap mcguffin to move the the guardians to somehow "get better" and even then was really just for plot, since they're already top tier teammates.

Surprised by the verdict. This felt like a return to the old MCU form. Thor L&T and Antman Q felt like forced comedy, with the guardians, it just flows. It’s who they are and who they’ve been. I’m sad it’s come to an end because it’s the first Marvel film I’ve really enjoyed since endgame and Spiderman No way Home. It was a satisfying end for all the characters and felt like a real ending for them. I’m excited to see what comes next for the Guardians, maybe not all together but still having that possibility is awesome. Definitely excited to see what they do with Starlord being on Earth again. I hope we get to see Gamora again! I’m sad James Gunn is leaving, but excited to see what he can do with DC.

Guardians movies, despite being genuine comedies, seem to understand very well WHEN it's time for comedy. All three titles do. They possess some of the best comedic moments in the MCU, but each title also had surprisingly poignant emotional moments, definitely some of the best in the MCU as well. And it all works because, unlike movies made by SOME directors (looking at you, Taika Waititi), the Guardians movies don't ruin the important emotional payoff moments by immediately lobbing a joke as if to defuse the tension. They have lots of comedy, but they don't lump it together with the drama. All Marvel movies used to do this once, but Thor: Ragnarok changed the landscape and from that moment on, most of the remaining movies tried to copy that cheap comedic relief that does nothing but ruin serious scenes for a quick chuckle. Guardians movies, however, maintained their formula and that's why they still feel the same kind of good. That's why all three are strong candidates for the best MCU movies.

I get that everyone was screaming at everyone alot, but to be fair tensions were pretty high just about the entire movie. The villian was great. He has a god/inferiority complex so when he starts losing control of any situation, he starts screaming and lashing out. Everything involving rocket was great. Yeah they could of trimmed down some things but for this to be the send off to the G.O.T.G. Aside from Wakanda Forever, I think this movie realistically handled the after-effects of the snap. In this movie, Gamora was dealing with unresolved anger and Peter was basically a high-functioning alcoholic. Nebula and and others practically enabled him. Even though Drax and Mantis were still quirky, they had a lot of depth. Nebula went from hating everyone to pretty much being the mother of the group. Hell, even Rocket was starting to mature.

Will Poulter is an underrated actor. I feel like everyone who was "stupid" got a lot of emotional growth. Honestly, the character who took a step back in terms of growth was Star-Lord. I can see the criticisms of both as being valid. I did really, really enjoy this movie, but not everything works. That said, it does seem like some reviewer are double-speaking. The things they criticized other MCU movies for are corrected here, but reviewers are now flipping and saying the opposite of what they were saying before. Example: Thor LAT was too short and rushed, but now Guardians is too long. Ant-Man 3 didn’t have emotional stakes, but now Vol3 is too emotional. MCU was missing autuer vision, but Vol3 is the MOST James Gunn of all the movies and it’s still somehow not enough. That’s why the audience score on RT is so much higher than the critic score. Film critics are starting to lose the thread on MCU movies and just arbitrarily add negatives.

Reviewers watch movies as a job and that tends to shape the way they consume media. So while they're watching they're also looking for things to discuss, and negatives will always stick out more. And if you've ever been alone with negative thoughts you know that tends to make small negatives into much larger ones, that's what's happening with reviewers. It's why fresh movie reviewers tend to be more positive or open and older reviewers tend to be harsher on movies. It's not experience, it's a general numbness that starts to build to good movies because they're always looking to compare the movie to something else, and that ruins your ability to just enjoy what you're seeing. It's why reviewers are usually at odds with the audience, the audience is there to enjoy, reviewers (regardless of what they claim) are there to pick it apart for the purpose of creating content.

Which is sad because kang is meant to be the new thanos and honestly the High Evolutionary was the best thing since end game. Also I kind of like that Adam Warlock was just a straight up idiot to keep him from being a straight up deus ex machnina or from being able to solve the movie immediately, to make sure that the whole official Guardians team got their time to beat down the High-Evolutionary together. The DC universe is definitely in good hands with Gunn co-running it, I hope he gives the Justice League roster as much heart as he's given the Guardians.

I really like the previous movies (MOS, BVS, WW, ZSJL) but i guess not many people liked it which is fine. I just hope that he does not make DC's style and tone too similar to Marvel. Especially considering if they did put Adam Warlock into one of the Avengers movies involving Thanos he definitely would have felt like an even more out of place touch in it considering we already had Captain Marvel filling that void (and we all know how people felt about her at first), involving him with the Guardians in this sort of way doesn't really damage his character at all honestly so he still has time to grow into what we know of him from the comics. And about Gunn, like someone else said thankfully we didn't get a _"DC Style"_ propaganda because that would've dampened the uniqueness of all the films as a whole. Regarding creative differences between him and Henry Cavill (who I am saddened that he will no longer be Superman as it seems now) I'm looking forward to his approach for future DC films.

When it started with Radiohead Creep, I knew we were in for an emotional ride! Beyond all the jokes there’s fragility and mature sensibility that is not overdone. There’s something about the acceptance of the breakup, in plain sight for Peter Quill from the start, but the whole movie felt like your loved one, while carrying for you, announce you a break up in a carrying way, there’s no good goodbyes but the acceptance of the good time spent together, and the need to move on. It’s the end of the guardians as we know it, and the end of James Gunn for Disney as an artist? We’ve all experienced it at some point, just thinking about it now makes me emotional (left Theater 1h ago!). It was a great concluding trilogy movie, as well as probably the most satisfying ending of a Marvel movie as well.

I think Rocket is the reason everyone is raving about the movie being so great, when really, it's just Rocket.

Good thing because this was a far better experience then the trailers let on. All the characters are more developed & Pom is hilarious & was comedic brilliance here. I want to see more of her character as it keeps getting more interesting. They finally fixed some of her weaker traits as well. As Mantis was never a weak character in the comics as far from it. Even though I figured from the trailer that the stakes would be higher and there would be less comedy and more drama, I’m still pretty blown away by what I saw. Rocket’s backstory gave me flashbacks to the Made in Abyss anime and almost had me on the verge of tears, I felt so bad for him and the other animals he became friends with. I love it when movies like this and Doctor Strange Multiverse of Madness push the envelope on what they can get away with for film ratings lower than an R or NC-17, because there are some moments in this that really do border on R but I’m glad younger audiences are given a taste of that. The Guardians trilogy was so well rounded and this was a perfect closing. The growth you see in everyone as people, as a team, and the toll that has been taken on them for what they do for the galaxy; it was very beautiful imo. This movie really showed what horrors are out there in the galaxy, and how honestly heroic the guardians are for giving their all to help people. The thing I really enjoyed about this movie is that it is self-contained. It has gotten really tiring having MCU writers constantly trying to connect every single dot. The Avengers aren't as special when you can see them in just about any movie. I appreciated the post credits straying from this formula, as well.

Watched the premiere last night. I had a really good time. A movie that's definitely self aware on how silly it is. At the same time, the tone can do a complete 180 in a second.

Saw it yesterday and yeah I’d agree, I loved most of it but the tone is really inconsistent, especially in the first act

The High Evolutionary is an absolute monster in this movie. Just something about a villain that experiments on cute animals. For those who may have small children, this movie may not be for them as the story does get very dark at points, especially as it goes into Rocket's back story. For me, children 10 and up can see it, but any younger it may be too much for them

Yes... my 7 year old cousin had to walk away after 15 minutes. Too much for her to handle...
