GTR transfer case mod - start to finish time lapse. R32 R33 RB26

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

My first time tearing into a skyline transfer case for a look, with only a few forum posts for ideas it wasn’t the most time efficient job but you can see the process nevertheless.
The 2 extra friction plates required cost around $55 each from Nissan here in Australia.
Other than that you just need some silicone and time.
A good press would’ve made the job a lot easier but is achievable with very basic tools (a 3 jaw puller mainly).

One tip- electric heat plate for bearings etc. where you can set a desired temp, or a simple electric stove . But you need to keep an eye on the temps on the stove constantliy. Bearings with plastic cage max 130°C, regular bearing max 150°C and steel gears as required or max 250- 300°C. The heat will spread more evenly, as with a gas burner. If you do it right, the parts will easily slide onto the shaft with no issues. Trust me, im an industrial mechanic😆

Nice video ! 👏 Did you have by chance the part number for the extra plates that needs to be added ? Can't fin it.

Very interesting. How has it held up since? Does it come on awd much more faster/sensitive?

Thanks for the video. I attempted this and when I pulled the front cover off the clutch hub front bearing came with the front cover. In your video it stayed on the center drive shaft. With your experience do you think I should remove the bearing from the front cover and press it back on the drive shaft?

Great vid, for some reason i thought inside was way more complex, still dont know exactly how oil travels to lock/unlock the transfer

Cheers✌️That comes from the atessa system which is mounted in the rear of the car (fluid reservoir in the boot) and pressurises/actuates a slave cylinder on the back of the transfer case! It has a slave cylinder and fork pushing on the clutch packs much like the clutch on the back of the engine

great video, if the rear output seal required changing, can that be done by just removing the prop flange?

Thanks! Yes fairly easily the flange slides right off, I recommend the correct torque on the rear nut to prevent internal damage I’ve seen before.

@@Dan34R thanks for reply, i purchased the japanese workshop manuals so have torque setting but strangely the transfer section consists of an exploded diagram only with no service method. I've been planning to do the seal but didnt want to get into the job to find it reverse mounted from inside casing.

Did you measure the plate thickness to insure it was within tolerance? I did not see you check that in the video.

Nope, they don’t require preload so I’ll just run them down to nothing and replace them when I slip it and fry them completely 👍

If i had mistakenly driven the car low on transfer oil, what parts could i have hurt? The fiber/steel plates? I guess i could replace them and build a setup like you did...

Depends how long for, the plates hold oil so they probably would deal with it for a bit, but the bearings and oil pump/chain may not like it for a long period of time

Hello what does this mod achieve? Faster 4wd engagement? More torque capability?

  • @Dan34R

    @Dan34R

    3 жыл бұрын

More torque capability, I have a 5-600kw engine setup to put in front of this which will also probably produce 1000nm or more, so the idea is to not overpower/slip the transfer and fry the clutch pack.

Is removing the T case from the transmission as straight forward as just removing the ones around the casing ? Or has something to do with the shift selector rod ? Thanks

There is two hidden bolts behind shifter hole that hold case in too need to be removed, shifter link likely requires removing which accessible at same time here
