I've played the GTA IV story for about 4 times already. In every playthrough, I've chosen the Revenge route. Why? Roman is an awesome character. He welcomed Niko, he helped guide him, got him into trouble in memorable ways, cares about his cousin all the time and loves to spend time with him. Not to mention that I always smile when he asks if Niko wanted to go bowling. The fact that Roman even helps him take down Pegorino in the final mission to avenge Kate is proof that he's willing to risk his life to help his cousin. Roman will always be in a special place in my gaming heart. "Cousin, let's go bowling!"

I find it weird how kate is all happy just a few hours before she dies.

People tend to believe Kate's death is irrelevant. But if we put ourselves in Niko's perspective... Kate was the only normal human being living in the same hell he was dragged into. She was an outlet for him to leave crime life and probably get married like Roman. Kate is the only one aware of Niko's actions and the only one willing to give him a chance. If we talk about all the other girlfriends, Niko doesn't really talk about his job or past, meaning he doesn't trust them, they're just sexual relief for him. But Kate is an emotional relief. Kate is Niko's future, and Pegorino destroys that future, pretty much proving the fact that he can't leave his past behind... Both Kate and Roman's deaths are tragic for Niko. Not for the players but for Niko.

I prefer the revenge ending, but for those who says Kate deserves to die, put yourself in Niko's shoes, he lost all his friends in the war, he spent the next 10 years looking for the person who betrayed him, the desire eating him up from the inside, and in Liberty City he found himself again commiting crimes, Kate was his hope for a better and normal life and Pegorino took that hope for him. Yeah, Roman's death is sadder but Kate's death is just as tragic

No but at the end of GTA 5 (if you do Deathwish ending) there will be a scene in Mike's house where the family is all together at a table and Jimmy is on Niko's Lifeinvader page. Roman recently liked his status and there's a birthday note for Roman. A lot of decisions are determinant but let's not forget that Niko is his own character and killing Dimitri seems like the choice Niko would make. He'd be insane to deal with Dimitri again.

That cut scene was beautifully made. The way how everyone reacted when the bullet hit Roman. Niko didn't even realize it at first until he heard Mallorie scream. At that moment, he knew before he had even turned around. Great scene, great game 10 years later.

GTA 5 and GTA 4 are equally good.

If you choose Deal, you have a much better reason for wanting to kill Dimitri but you lose one of the best characters in GTA history. If you choose Revenge, you lose the girl you love but you keep one of the best characters in GTA. I prefer for Kate to die.

The most mature GTA of all time HANDS DOWN!!

While the Deal ending is the saddest, it's also the most fitting narratively. In my mind Niko would choose to take the deal and let go of Dimitri mostly to provide for Roman, while choosing revenge for Kate's respect seems a bit contrived. It also gives Niko even more of a motivation to go after Dimitri, who's been an antagonist for most of the game, unlike Pegorino who only turns against you in the end.

The way Niko reacts to Kate's death is so real, it feels like you are there

I actually really enjoyed how dark gta 4 is, its cynical and depressing with no happy ending. In gta v you can get a good ending despite all the crime franklin micheal and trevor commit, here once niko enters this world hes trapped and his loved ones suffer for it. Amazing game

Deal: He told me to leave it, I left it. Revenge: She told me to leave it, I thought I had, I thought it was over.

Roman told him to put aside his hatred for Dimitri and do the deal with him and take the money and Niko was thinking that he put aside their differences and this is the outcome, Roman was killed. On the other hand Kate told him to cut his connections with Dimitri and he thought that it was over because he wasn't there anymore to bother them but this angered Pegorino who lost everything because the deal didn't happen and wanted to kill Niko. Perhaps he felt guilty over taking Kate down without being responsible for anything

Revenge ending is revealed to be the true one, because in GTA Chinatown Wars which is set in 2009, the Roman's Taxi depot still operates.

The Taxi Depot service could've easily been inherited by either Mallorie or Niko, or even Mohamed. They could've kept the name the same to honor Roman. There is no canonical ending. There never will be in any GTA game. That's the beauty of it. You can make whichever choices you want without worrying that you made the "incorrect" decision. I feel like more games should operate like this instead of, say, Fallout, where the previous titles have their lore set in stone by the sequels.

Ludwig van Beethoven My thoughts exactly. Even though Niko constantly remarks that he and Roman are tight on money (and desires to live comfortably, kind of like the lie Roman told him in the beginning), he wouldn't be desperate enough to work with the "man" who set him up to kill Faustin and take control of his empire (Faustin even tried to warn Niko of "his" treachery before getting axed off), sell him out to Bulgarin, kidnap Roman to lure him out in the open, blackmail Bernie and not to mention, burn down the Bellics' apartment and cab depot, their minuscule source of semi-legitimate income. Niko would have to be brain dead or extremely greedy to have any desire to work with Dimitri. But at the same time, the Deal branch does work better at getting you teary eyed. With Roman kicking the bucket and Kate breaking up with Niko dismissing his principles and what not. BTW, killing Dimitri on the boat was way more satisfying than eliminating the loud mouthed guido at the end. It's really a matter of preference. If you prefer Niko's story to end with a tiny glimmer of hope, then Revenge is the best ending. But if you want something a little more tragic, the Deal ending concludes the story on a bittersweet note.

What Niko said about him getting forced into a war he did not believe in, made me think of all the people who got involved in all the many wars that have happened in the past and how many of the soldiers did not want to get involved but were forced to due to the BS terms called "nationalism and patriotism". I love how Dimitri discreetly sends one guy with a pistol who at least sneaks up on Niko beforehand on foot. Whereas Pegorino straight up rolls up in a car and unloads an entire AK47, shows his presence to everyone and still somehow misses his intended target lmao.
