I just bought several tongs and some top tools from Glen. Ive been using them for about a week. They are beautiful.. extremely well made- there are none finer. Thank you Glen Gary Johnson
Hello Mr Glen love you videos setting here watching you roaming think you ever so so much for taking us a long have a great day be safe.
Lucky enough to have 2 pair of GS tongs, super useful!
It always amazes me how you get the perfect symmetry in both halfs
I really enjoyed watching you make the tongs and I always enjoy seeing how different smiths set up the area where they do their blacksmithing

At this point, I've made my tongs in so many different ways I can't even keep count. And I made some further changes after this video that I think really takes things to the next level. Thanks.
I know it’s not the point of the video but your rivet making tool is the most elegant and simple to make solution I have EVER seen. That is bloody brilliant!

Another awesome video. Personally I like tools being made best. And for anyone looking for tongs or punches I use Glen's as much as possible and love them! Excellent quality!! And it's awesome to tell folks that they are American Made in Tiwan from a Smith I watch on KZread lol

Well done Glen! I've said it before and I'll say it again, you make the best looking tongs! And I use tongs all the time. Thanks bro

That's very nice of you to say. After this video, I made some changes to some of my tong styles that I think really takes them to the next level. I went back to a less or more sort of approach; clean lines... Thanks.
I can also highly recommend Glen’s tongs and tools...I use them almost daily! Great quality and unique ! Thanks Glen!

You're too kind but I really appreciate it. As I've said before, word of mouth is what drives business. Very recently, (after this video) I made some further changes to some of my tongs - back to a more streamlined design. Thanks for everything.
Besides being a wonderful blacksmith, you are an artist. There are several good blacksmiths on the KZread, but the work of none is as pleasing to the eye as yours is. And it is amazing that you accomplish so much in such a small place with such simple equipments.
beautiful work! i'll take a set of 3 just like these!
Just got my tongs from Glen today, absolutely perfect. I highly recommend his tongs.
Damn. I made a great jig for my power hammer to make tongs. Have made many. But yours have a simple robust form that blows me away. Lots of highly experienced farrier cues in them. And in such limited space?! Very good work. We all know the sound of your anvil!

Thank you. I've been working hard on my designs and shortly after this video, feel I've taken things to the next level with certain tong designs and how I go about making them by hand. Good luck in your own work, etc.
What a craftsman! Thanks for posting your videos. Truly outstanding work.
My favorite tongs, by glen at gs tongs, I thought shipping would take a bit being on the other side of the planet but was surprised when they showed up quickly, thanks glen!!

I am very glad you like the tongs and appreciate your recommendation. And I am changing things around with some tong designs and feel I will take things to the next level. And lastly, the shipping from here in Taiwan is definitely fast given the distance. Taiwan and US post offices are world class in my opinion. Thanks.
Beautiful work.

Super job they’re really well made you are so good.
Glen, your work has a unique style. One of these days I'll order some tongs or a guillotine tool to go with the hammer I bought from you several years ago.

I'm trying my best... Tongs are my thing but I'm always thinking changes are in order. I very recently made some changes (after this video) that I think brings them up a notch further. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Love the look of your tongs Glen. They are handsome in a chunky sort of way and somehow manage to look comfortable as well as clearly being very practical. Sadly I can't afford to invest in a set but I am determined to have a go at making short chunky tongs for the sort of hobby projects I do. Thanks for sharing.

I've made more than my fair share of tongs. The crazy thing is, the first real thing I ever made was a tong and that all I still do. Talk about being in a rut!I made that first tong from rebar and it looked silly and didn't work very well but I was darn proud... Thanks for watching and commenting.
those both came out looking so good. I love it. I hope I can afford to start buying some tools next year. also, the view off your balcony made me want to visit Taipei again.

Taipei is a very interesting city. I'm thinking of doing sort of "walking tour" videos to show more of here to those who might be interested. Thanks for watching and good luck in your work, etc.
@thoperSought

@@gstongs I would love to watch a walking tour video. when we visited, we were only there two nights, but it was so much fun. seriously made me wish I spoke Chinese, though.
As Thomas mentions, the brass from your brush transfers to the piece. Does this provide any sort of corrosion protection at all or is it purely cosmetic? I frequently use vinegar to remove light rust from various tools and parts and I use a brass brush on them. I also get the same sort of thin brass wash like coating on the pieces, but I always coat them in oil so never tested to see if there is any corrosion inhibiting properties.
Your tongs are on the wish list. Question: What do you do to maintain your anvil etc. in the semi outdoors environment?
@gstongs
4 жыл бұрын
If you ever want anything, just let me know. Rust is a real issue out here in Taiwan. Just daily use will help prevent a lot of rust. And I also spray and rub my anvils down with WD-40 every now and then. Thanks.
Bom trabalho. Brazil

It seems you always use round bar stock, what type of steel do use for tools and what would you use for something like a knife?
@gstongs
4 жыл бұрын
I use 1018 mild carbon steel for my tongs and rivets. I don't make knives but if I were to do so regularly, I think I might just use high carbon steel like 1095. Exotic alloys are less forgiving to my simpler approach to blacksmithing. Thanks.
It struck me that you could easily make & offer a combination punch/drift (4:00). You could have a punch on one side, and a drift on the other. Granted, you would lose a handle eye for hanging, but it could still be hung on a pair of small pegs.
@gstongs
4 жыл бұрын
That's something I never thought about and am not sure if I've ever seen that. A very unique idea. Could be a good video idea. Thanks.
