GRUNION RUN In Southern California | Educational Video

Grunion run in Southern California. Nona The Naturalist of Dana Wharf Whale Watching explains about the grunion run. These silvery fish have unique mating behaviors: when spawning season comes, typically March through September, masses of grunion will swim onto the sandy shores at night, as seen in this video.

Dana Wharf is the premier year-round whale watching company in Dana Point. Beginning in 1971 we are the pioneer of whale watching adventures in Orange County, California.
We interact with over 1000 whales during the Gray whale migration in the winter and view hundreds of 90 feet Blue whales in the summer. Sightings of Orca, Humpback, Sperm and Finback Whales are not uncommon.
In addition to whales, thousands of dolphins, sea lions, seafaring birds, and even sharks are found year-round in our waters, so we always have plenty of wildlife to see.

I remember doing this grunion run back in 1999 with couple of my friends. We didn’t know what it was but we saw little fishes on the shore. We all grab bags from our cars and caught them and brought them home in the early AM’s. Our parents were so suprised. I was about 17 and now 43 😂😂😂😂

She knows exactly what day and time to lay the caviar so that her offspring survive. The fish writhing to the water and, waiting for the next wave, return to the ocean. What do you think? How did Atherina-Grunion learn to choose the most suitable moment for spawning - as a result of evolution or thanks to a wise Creator?

Why not both? I don't know for certain, not an expert, but...I can see beauty in the natural and elegance in the complex systems of life. I see rich complexity of the panoply of Earth's creatures; ruthless natural efficiency, never wasting; elegant systems that humans can (try to) approximate at every scale in the universe: all of these give glory to a God that is beyond my reckon and fathom. If THIS is SOMETHING and not a vain imagining, I would chalk it up to the creation of a master craftsman.

@@robertstevensii4018 Of course, many people, watching nature, come to this conclusion. The first words of the Bible reveal two important truths to us: 1) "heaven and earth," or the material universe, had a beginning; 2) they were created by God "To you, Jehovah, our strong God, by right belongs glory and honor, because you created all things, by your will all things began to exist and were created" (Revelation 4:11). The Hebrew verb translated by the word "created" is used exclusively in relation to the creative activity of God. In the Bible, only Jehovah God is called the Creator.
