The fact that you just leave the veg stall there as a self service business, and the fact that it actually works, are a testament to the honesty of those fine folk of the west of Ireland 🇮🇪

Yeah your right, its sad there there are so few places these days where you can do this or use an honesty box system. I'm in Cornwall at the moment & i have seen quite a few places selling eggs & fruit and veg & they use honesty boxes, i really thought that was a thing of the past but its good to see there are places with community spirit and trust still

Even in (anglican) East Anglia you still find honesty boxes. Personally I think it's a habit that needs cultivating for the future. You might lose some but you sow the spawn of trust and caring, which is a far more valuable crop than coinage

I went on a trip to a park in Co. Kerry and went into the little restaurant there. A person in the family had died so there was no one to serve. We were told to help ourselves to whatever was in the fridge, and to use the kettle for tea and coffee. We were to leave the money in the honesty box. I thought it was a lovely thing to do...

I swear, when you told us about picking them early to beat the slugs to it, I stopped the video, put on my head torch and went out in the dark to pick a whole bowl full!! hahaha, I've been getting so mad about the slugs in the morning when I go out to pick, the biggest best ones they always find and ruin. I put them in a box in a room that's pretty dark, but should I keep the top open for air circulation or close it? And PLEASE share with us how to make strawberry wine! I think I'd like to do that sometime!! Love your videos.

There are yellow alpine strawberries that are even more care free and don't produce runners so they'll behave in a flower bed. The birds don't eat them because they are waiting for them to turn red first. The only problem is they are small but they are also more of an ever bearing. They won't fulfill the nagging strawberry lust like a cultivated strawberry will but they are nice to snack on through out the 9 months that they produce (zone 8b).

Thanks so much for those strawberry growing tips, especially picking them before they're fully ripe, I had no idea you could do that. I had given up on my strawberries and most years the slugs and birds were having a feast! I have been growing just a few plants in hanging baskets in desperation! Mia's card was lovely, thanks for sharing that. Your animals gobbling those strawberries was great to watch! Thanks again!

I recommend Hugelkulture beds to anyone in a hot, dry climate. I managed to get a crop of good pumpkins from a Hugelkulture bed during the worst drought on record in Australia. I will definitely be building more for our berry crops next Spring.

I follow Mark from Self Sufficient Me and he now has Kevin from Epic Gardening selling the Birdie's Garden Beds to those in America through Kevin's online store. I'm Australian too and I managed to get fruit and veges growing through our terrible summer's. My neighbours laughed at me doing the Hugelkulter method and they did start stealing from my gardens and throwing chemicals on the vege beds toward the end of summer so I've stopped growing for the time being and will start again when I move again later this year.

Am impressed how you overcome the usual thinking that certain crops can't be grown in your area by observing how Mother Nature and the local environment and micro-climates actually interact to keep producing and reproducing to inhabit the earth. You observe all aspects of the environment, needs of plants and come up with wonderful ways to use Mother Nature to live in harmony while producing wonderful goodies. Your "no waste" way of living is so wonderful to see. You're a thinker and, most of all, a "yes, I can" kinda guy! Please keep posting -- you're ingenuity is so refreshing.

10:50 This advice is absolute GOLD. We have a few strawberry plants in a tunnel and they're starting to produce well this year. Picking any strawberry as soon as it blushes and then ripening them indoors, which happens quickly. Haven't lost a single strawberry to a pest so far this year. Thanks Daniel!

On each video you produce, I come to realize more and more the huge amount of work it takes to keep a project like yours. It's not as many of your viewers depict living off the grid...just contemplating the scenery and lazying around. It takes tons of work and the energy for that comes from love to live that life style.

I am in total awe of this channel. Happily KZread thought i'd like it very much and you appeared in recommendations. Slow life is something I had to leave in order to (sic!) get back to it once I have the priviledge and finance. Just like you mentioned in one of your latest videos - you need to have the start money to get to your dream. But I am patient and conscientious in gathering the finance needed. Mentally, I have never left the countryside. I miss it dearly. Every second of it. Your videos make me want to fulfill my dream faster. It makes me long the fresh air and the feeling of the soil underneath your fingernails. I was even thinking of one day creating a slow life youtube channel but thought: who would watch it anyway!? I am so surprised (pleasantly) that there is so many young people who strive to live like this and are met with the enthusiasm. Where I come from, the usual is to leave the family home, go to the big city, get a corpo job, get a mortgage and a flat, get a car in leasing and get married (expensively) and very quickly have children. But when I look at this standard I just feel anger and fear of being pushed into such a conformist way of life. Give me land, give me animals and I will gladly make produce, take care of the animals and live happily (with a bent back) until the rest of my days. Just like my Grandmother does. Despite being 98 this year, she still can go to the field and harvest, has an apetite of a grown man and strenght of an ox! The countryside makes the sturdiest and happiest people. Thank you for creating! Please post more, I already watched all of your videos :D

I do that with my tomatoes... I didn’t know that you could do that with strawberries, too.. I’d love your wine and jam recipe! Thanks for sharing your tips. It is good to hear from you and Moss.

Thankyou for the tips about runners. I want to move my strawberry bed this autumn and now I know how to gather up the new plants for it.👍

I found freezing strawberries if you have a freezer great when you want an ice cube in your g and t . You know you made it when you sip your drink with your own organic strawberry ice cube

Love your veg stand! And thanks for the growing tips. I only have 7 plants at the moment, some in raised beds, some in the ground, so not many strawbs! The other day I saw a flash of deep red under a leaf but was sad to see that half of it had been munched by a Gastropod! Then I was surprised by a whopping great frog trying to get out of my way. I think it has been allowing the slug/snail to eat the strawberries, so it tastes better 😆
