Many people don't realise that there is a very simple trick you can use to multiply your strawberries to create literally a lifetime supply of strawberries. It's far easier than planting seeds or dividing plants! All you need is one plant. Ben show us how in this week's episode.

I love watching your videos. I have just ordered 25 eversweet everbearing crowns. I think I learned a lot from your 6 videos about strawberries. Previously I have tried to grow strawberries with not a lot of success. Now I know to cut the runners, water and feed a lot more, how close I can plant them and so much more. I really hope I have more luck this coming year. I really like to read other people"s comments and notices that you answer them all. Wow. I have never seen that before in all the videos I watch. Thank you for another great and informative video Ben . If I only had room to grow one variety it would be Mara Du Bois which is an ever bearing variety. It is a relatively small shorter leafed plant and it produces strawberries for months. Yes the early ones are lovely but have a short cropping season. Mara De Bois keeps going until the first frosts and I am still picking a tray full every other day and the plants are full of flowers. The sizes of them vary but I don’t mind. They are sweet and continuous. I know this is pretty unbelievable but one of this years runners has flowered and produced some fruit and it hasn’t even rooted yet!

Ozark strawberries are the best for my area here in Mid Missouri. They produced all summer long with really no care, I use them to border things as a lovely treat as I go along weeding, watering I can also have a berry or two as a gardening reward.
Looking forward to the currants video!
21 years ago, I bought 6 plants, 2 each of early, mid & late season fruits. Before I got them in the ground, my cat had mixed them up. Not knowing which was which, I didn't bother keeping the labels. Never mind, I brought a selection of plants with me when I moved 12 years ago, and now have so many that I could fill the allotment completely with them! I get fruit from early June till late July, although this morning I spotted some more ripening. (Though I doubt if the blackbird will share them with me, now the cover is off the fruit cage!) I do fill out the season with alpine strawberries, as these also freeze well, giving my winter fruit salad a summer lift.

Still potting on runners from my “found” Gariguette plant and really looking forward to a few fruits in 2023. I appreciate that these aren’t for everyone giving just one crop per year but to us the exceptional flavour makes them worthwhile; also the few retailers selling these strawberries in the UK charge huge premiums. First rooted plants are in their new pots fitted to the sides of our “catio” (out of reach of felines). I probably have enough plants on their way now so will start to cut future runners from the now huge parent plant so that it can focus on its own growing (!) in the weeks left before autumn. Much much carefully directed watering needed during these days of 30c+ but with a very small garden we grow lots of things in pots so the same applies to them all. Looking forward to the video on currants, this was our first year with blackcurrants in pots and they did well until a sudden aphid attack caused one to drop a large part of its fruit. The other gave well though and blackcurrants are probably my favourite fruit, if not raspberries, then there are big fat sweet gooseberries……

I've had very mixed results with container over-wintering strategy. I put them in my garage one year, as other's here do, and even with some watering, they just all died. I then left them out and with rain/cold they were in blocks of ice, and actually survived fine, however new plants didn't.... I'm still trying to figure this one out.

Hi Mark. Here in the UK they just stay out in pots all winter. If winters are very severe, you could move the into a greenhouse or cold frame - somewhere still cold but a little more protected. Keep plants lightly moist. But in most climates outside is fine.

Strawberries are hardy down to about zone 5, so should be fine as they are in most of Ontario, but if they're in pots I would consider bringing them into a more sheltered area just to help them through the hardest of the cold.
Thank you for the detailed planting, Ben. Super cool. What is your planting zone? I am planting at 9a which was 8b until last year as USDA changed the zones. Currently, we have some Albion, Hood, Ft. Laramie, Whopper, Seascape, Eclair, and Alpine strawberries. Some are young plants and others are bareroot. Do bareroot plants bear fruit the first year?

Try planting them into a fresh area of soil. It may be that the soil is tired and a new patch of ground that hasn't grown strawberries recently would suit them better - in full sun, mulched and watered as before.
Do you have to do anything special for the winter for the ones in the ground?

Cut back old foliage and then, if it's really cold for weeks on end (frozen soil etc) perhaps cover the area with straw or similar to insulate them from the worst of the chill.
I started 'Sable' strawberries last year. They are a day neutral (everbearing) variety which I find interesting as I am not sure how this will go. The plants themselves look like they do not have runners. The berries are upward facing and pointy about the size of a Canadian quarter in diameter. Great taste that is more tart than say Kent or Fresca which I have growing vigorously for early summer crops..

We have some variety of red strawberry that was a volunteer, so we don't know what type it is. We also bought some heirloom white alpine strawberry seeds. Alas only one sprouted but it is doing really well.. The berries are not only white but they are small and have a lovely mild and sweet flavor. The alpines need to be taken out of the greenhouse in the summer or it will get too hot. But the red ones love the hothouse. We have a mild climate so they never die back, they just produce much less in winter.

Didn’t get any strawberries this year but it’s my first year and I didn’t expect any. Plus it was crazy hot. Going to have to find a better spot for them. They’re in containers in full sun and they seem to be having a rough time - still alive, producing runners, but not a lot of full growth. Hopefully now that it’s cooled down, they’ll grow out a bit before it gets too cold. Gotta figure out how to make sure they live through the winter. (7A here - first frost Oct 15)
