Great video John! Here in the tropics we usually plant them by cuttings! But of course, it can grow here all year round, so there's no need to save the seeds. They are really yummy. Normally we don't allow them to vine, we cut them when they are about a foot long. they are young and tender. new suckers grow and the more you cut the more it grows! I like to cook it with squash and mung beans...Yummy!

I love my red Malabar spinach. They grow so well in my North Carolina Zone 7B did I don't plant it anymore. I have to thin the plants out. I put my yard waste and garden waste compost into a pile right beside my fence where I planted the Malabar spinach and it really grows

we have lots of this malabar spinach and it grows abundantly here in my country and the good thing about this spinach is that it doesn't require special care, it will grow nicely as long as you have enough water and sunlight.. I didn't know that it can be eaten raw until I made a malabar spinach smoothie last night, I tasted really delicious...

Hi John! Again, great video. 1 1/2 moths ago we found out my mom has stage 4 pancreatic cancer. Watching growing your greens and raw food juicers has really opened my mind up. Still researching juicers. Having problem with that but you are so informative. My tomatoes came out great. Next step...taking over the rest of our little backyard with veggies and fruit. thank you for all you do.

John, we planted this stuff once and it's relentless! I live in TN. Every year, in the Fall, it climbs out of a couple places and races up whatever is in it's way. I haven't cared for it, but I'm going to go make myself eat some - try to figure out a way to enjoy it. I might just slop some soup on it or throw it in the next salad. It definitely has a slime factor. But it grows so well. Interestingly I have a trellis for a goji berry and it's taken over (I cut back the parts by the goji berry so that that gets light. I was going to say it climbed up a tomato and then reached the trellis, so it's pulling / holding the tomato up with it. So I can pick a few tomatoes out.

Great video John, couldn't agree with you more about the fresh food one gets from his own garden. While in the grocery store yesterday I asked about some garlic that the sign said was fresh. "Where did the garlic come from?" the clerk replied "from Chile" I thought wow that's "Fresh"? So growing your own is by far the best and is fresh. I am planning next years garden already and wanted to let you know that your tips and garden have played an influential part in what I grow.

May have a video when I have a lot of ripe malabar seeds to harvest.. that being said, its really easy.. I did it the "one at a time" method in this video.. while getting the nutrients from the fruit.. That is an unnecessary step. Just collect all the stems or just pull whole plants with purple pods. and hang to dry in the sun or shade or dehydrate out the liquid. You will be left with the seed.

I'm in western Washington state and we have fairly mild winters (40-45oF) and dont tend to see cold temps (20oF) for more than a couple days when we lose cloud cover. I'm wondering if I can get malabar spinach to grow in the greenhouse and survive the winter as the real cold weather actually shows up with lots of sunlight (the cloud cover thing). Possible? Advice? I'm planning on putting in a stand alone solar powered fountain pump and fan with a small pond/waterfall to act as a heat sink.

Question - Cannot find online anything abut the very nutritious what I was told is called Red Japanese Spinach. The deep almost purple stem leaf that is a pointy type leaf that is green on the bottom side of the leaf. It has the flower cluster as you show on this Malabar Spinach, but the leaf is different in color and shape. So what kind of Spinach do I have ? It is a super food. Tops in nutrition.

Hey John! I have growing the hyacinth vine and I didn't realize you could eat them. However, I do get differing info about them on the web. Have you ever grown them? I have read that you can eat the flowers, young pods and beans, but you want to really cook and change the water several times to cook the mature beans. The leaves taste like spinach and the beans like lima beans.(which is the family they are in)...remind me of scarlet runner beans...
