Hi thanks Miguel! We usually have 350 mm annually but the last 8 years the Karoo has been experiencing the worst drought in over a century

Those lucerne stands will be there for decades, forming extensive roots and providing cover and plant matter for the ground. Good rains also provide silt rich waters off the mountains, which provide more 'topsoil'.
