I'm from Phoenix AZ. Last year I grew two different kinds of lettuce (Romaine and May Queen) in my raised bed and I let one plant of each kind go to seed. This winter I got lots of volunteers growing in my garden space and in my backyard. Plentiful lettuce with very little effort 👌

Lettuce Grow: from seed to harvest😂 I was thinking the same thing!
I don’t think anyone should be shamed for liking iceberg lettuce. I love all greens, but that girl has its time and place, even for folks who also like leaves with greenie flavor. Bland sweet crunch has its place! Cheers from a kale and arugula lover.
Yesterday I googled how to grow lettuce epic gardening and now it has come

I planted lettuce seeds last week because buying lettuce goes to waste when I’m the only one eating it. Now I can harvest as needed without wasting a whole head! (Coincidentally, of the five types I planted, you listed three! I also love red leaf for color)

> So do I. I bought a packet of red leaf lettuce seeds circa 2007 and have been growing them ever since. This year I experimented with constructing a tarp to protect the lettuce from sun during the summer to reduce bolting, and also growing seedlings in a tray and planting them repeatedly to extend my lettuce season. Both seem to be good.

I grow indoor romaine for that exact reason….you can take 12 leaves or so for a single side salad, no waste and they grow back.
Thank you Kevin for making informative videos delivered in a simple way. Im from Britain and my children wanted to know how things grow. So for 2 years ive watched your videos and then I teach them. You have inspired a whole generation of my family to get growing for which I am eternally grateful. My kids now spend their summer growing produce rather than playing video games. You will never know my kids, or their friends who see their enthusiasm for growing and then start asking their parents if they can grow food too, but please be humbled knowing the difference you are making to people's lives and the snowball effect it has. Be proud of what you have accomplished my friend, not only in business success but also bringing good to the world.

Tip lettuce hates heat, for success grow it in cooler temperatures. With being a 1st time gardener it's one of those crops not great to start with unless temperatures right. Kevin did cover that a bit but don't get frustrated because temperature key for lettuce. BTW welcome to the garden club we are happy to have you join us. 😀 it's always learning club

Make sure the leaves are dry in the fridge so it stores longer! He did brief on this. Wet lettuce will wilt and go slimy very fast if it’s not dry!

I've never understood why grocery stores are constantly spraying the veggies. Perhaps to set it on the road to rotting as fast as possible to keep folks coming in.
This is the best video I could have found on growing lettuce and it appeared at the perfect time for me. Having never grown lettuce before, it gave me confidence that I'll be ok. 😅
I do alot of "cut and come again" in a successive row/section and just scatter seeds. Successive about a week apart for 4 sections and harvest one section each week, by the time I cut the last section the first has grown back. Perfect rotation
I’ve had excellent success with Paris Island Romaine. It grows well in the heat and I’ve had no disease issues. It also has a high germination rate.
Even though I’m Australian, your channel is still one of my favorites. There's so much information in your videos; I just have to consider the different season. good onya mate.

planted lettuce in a large growbag early last Novemberl and all this southern california rain we've had has made them grow like crazy. I love telling the boys to grab some lettuce for their sandwiches...or for their In n Out burgers.
Butterhead Lettuce Is my favorite. If the seed is harvested from the lettuce. It grows amazing in that same location. It's very hardy if you sow the seed that's been harvest in that same location.
What a coincidence, I was starting to feel worried about my lettuce seeds not germinating and just yesterday one out of the 15 i sowed germinated, hopefully more will...

FINALLY! A proper tutorial on how to harvest my lettuce! Thank you
Love making plant guilds. Waiting for slower growing veg to grow and mature leaves me a lot of space to seed or plant in fast greens and small roots such as radish and green onions. At this point in my 58 years of gardening I utilize every inch of space by putting seeds in everywhere and anywhere it makes sense, naturally paying attention to variety, eventual space needs, time required. Maximizing my best garden soils means less work developing other areas. Also I never turn the soil. I use a potato fork and just give the soil a slight lift or boost to loosen it. No more heavy work for me unless absolutely necessary (don't like to disturb the soil microbiology).
Thank you, I am better informed about how to grow lettuces after watching your video: in simple terms, informative, and hands-on 😊
My grandmother grew up in the countryside of the state of Virgi,. She and my great-grandmother used to make pig feet in the oven. It's awesome to see how others on the other side of the globe in a different culture make them. Easiest way I've sewn lettuce is the way Charles Dowding does it. Doesn't try to pick apart those tiny seeds, just uses an open tray then after they all come up, just separates them from the clump and puts them in the starter trays individually. I'm really not good at thinning and this is working well this year.
I just sowed some lettuce seeds…. This came right on time. Thanks Kev.

I enjoy this content. Living in Florida, I do a lot of adapting of gardening content to make it apply to my area. You make this easy with detailed information that I can use. My lettuce season will be over in another month, but I might try the romaine type in a bed that gets a lot of afternoon shade to see how long it will last because of the heat tolerant tidbit. I know it will not make it through the summer, but maybe May or June would be very nice. Thank you for the content and please keep it coming.
