Figs one of the best fruits to grow in our home garden that too in a small pot. Start growing fig plant in a 10 inch pot.
These Fig trees are Drought resistant and requ8re very low Maintenance and my plantsare 3rd year post transplantation of my figs and till now I did not sprayed any pesticide.
You'll get a bountiful harvests in a year if you had planted a grafted one.
Happy Gardening

I'm sorry I missed that point. However, pruning can be done when your plant stops fruiting. Usually fruiting never stops in tropical area but we need to evaluate the low fruiting period and go for pruning. For pruning cut the apical bud so that lateral branches emerge and plant vertical growth will be ceased as well as cut off lateral criss-crossing branches and prune to your desired size depending upon the pot size. By this way of pruning we will get a bushy type of plant growth and an aesthetic look to the plant. Happy Gardening.

@@SimpleGardening I have 3 fig plants planted in 30x30 cm air pots and they are about 5 feet tall. Their trunk are thin and the trees are tilting sideways. I find it difficult to get a thick support for the fig plants and was thinking of pruning them short. After repotting them into 40 x 40 cm airpots , can I keep all my fig plants to a reachable height about 6 feet ? I saw several videos that encourages branching by notching the trunk. Is this advisable? Thank you in advance from Malaysia

As you are growing your fig in pots, 6 feet from the stem base(intersecting point of soil ) is not advisable. This is leading to lanky stem. Please cut the top growing part if the plants have lateral branches. Maintain 4 feet tall plants and don't Repot now into 40 cm pots let the plants recover in the existing pot itself post your hard pruning of plant head/apical part, once new growth is observed post pruning then you can go for root pruning and plant in the same 30 cm pot. This root pruning helps the plant to increase its stem girth moreover your hard pruning of stem helps the plant to develop side branches thru which plant metabolism initiates horizontal stem elongation for holding the new branches weight. Thus your plant can have makeover. My advise is not to carry out pruning in summer, cool months are favorable for pruning moreover post pruning the pla t should be kept under semishade but not under direct sun for few days and post pruning don't apply any fertilizer and don't spray any fungicide or pesticide. Just maintain ample soil moisture. Carry out this method for 1 plant and observe the changes in plant and later u can do it for other 2 plants. Good luck. 👍
