If you are a wholesaler you should eventually brand your products with some type of label, stamp, packaging.. just as the big name brands do.

Your diversify advice is very smart. I am a voice over artist we have big sites that marry VO's with Voice over jobs. Only one of them, allows you to have a relationship with the client. I became very comfortable with the pay to play site and got lazy on doing my own marketing which was pretty detrimental when they changed the platform and opened up the opportunity for Vo's to pay more to be on the platform and jobs would be sent out to those people first. They also changed the algorithms and my access to clients and voice over jobs fell almost to nothing. If I had another stream, it wouldn't have hurt so much. Big lesson learned there.

No major changes except I find that repeat purchase rate is very low, so the 25% first order commission fee can really impact the bottom line if most of your orders are first timers. I suppose a marketplace like this can encourage buyers to sample a lot of different brands without having to commit to a longer term relationship with any.

Thanks. Just heard about Faire yesterday and have been producing cards and magnets for years wondering if I could ever sell them in multiple retail locations - but how would I manage the contacts - this may be the solution. Too bad Faire doesn't offer incentives to artists designers and craftspeople -- I hope they don't take creative workers for granted. If that's the case, they're not the right company for me. We need to stick together and work with companies that value the creative workers.

I think they do mean well. During onset of covid they sent us a lot of helpful resources on small business aids. But on the buyer side I do feel like it can attract more opportunistic buyers. I’ve gotten requests from drop shippers which doesn’t feel great.

If you feel Faire isn't working out, and is subject to change, is it easy to opt out of Faire? What's the makers obligation if you opt out.

As a maker, you can close your Faire account anytime, after taking care of outstanding orders of course. You’re not bound to a contract with Faire, so you can leave anytime.

Hi, still a bit confused in terms of the legal use of Faire's products. Am I allowed to buy their products wholesale and then use my own manufacturing system to embroider/screen print/label? I currently run a clothing company and would love to re-brand some of their clothing to mine.

Thank you for the info. Extremely helpful. When your product has been bought are we able to see who purchased your product? Does Faire provide that information?

We will know the store who bought our products but we don’t know who are the customers who ultimately buy them. If the store isn’t able to sell through all the products, they have the option to return them to Faire (I think it’s part of their guarantee which may change over time). you won’t need to buy the returned goods back, but there will be record on your profile that some of your items didn’t sell through. Does that answer your question?

I’ve heard of them but haven’t personally used it. They look very similar to Faire but maybe newer, so might be going after the same target markets.

I am very confused about the whole of faire I have signed up with them which was great at the time. I have uploaded my designs I was bombarded with information which was to contact suppliers to give them a discount within my store I didn't know much suppliers actually thought faire does more of finding some of the suppliers customer service they take quite long to come back with your enquiry

Wholesale orders from most boutique shop buyers on Faire are not large like what you’d get from big box stores, so it wouldn’t be physically demanding until you scale to hundreds of stores or more.

They used to have live chat but I believe that is disabled now. If you email support, they usually get back in a business day.

the sellers on there are usually the original makers/designers of the products. I don’t think dropshippers are allowed on Faire.

Yes, address, web/social if they added it to their profile, and sometimes phone number. It’s strongly encouraged that you keep the communication via the Faire messenger though since they don’t want you to process orders outside Faire.

@Jordan Gropp yes I believe the retailer can contact the maker directly. To be honest I don't know how well equipped Faire is at enforcing the rules of staying on the platform past a first order.

Faire has some shady wholesalers from what I have discovered in less than one week, lol. I did a lot of research on this one product/Company and wanted to purchase for resale and making my Etsy products. The Company declined my order because I was an Etsy Canada Seller?! They have literally dozens of pages of products on Etsy and many on Amazon (which is suppose to be a NO NO, lol) There were a couple more I researched which also came up as "Shady" I complained to Faire about it, and they said there was nothing they could do about it. Left a bad taste in my mouth, won't be researching any other wholesalers on Faire.

It doesn't sound shady. Seems like the maker was already selling on Etsy and Amazon. Faire does want wholesale BUYERS to resell on Amazon and Etsy you'd be competing with the fair wholesaler. So this makes sense. If I make a product and sell it on Etsy I don't want you selling it on Etsy too.
