In this session, Holly is helping Stormy overcome the fear of things touching her back. Groundwork control helps the owner understand what is bothering the horse more safely.
What do we see in this session?
1. The human teaches the horse to give to rope halter pressure.
2. The human teaches the horse to pay attention to hand signals and follow a feel.
3. The human uses body language pressure to move horses’ body parts.
4. The human teaches the horse not to be afraid of pressure from her, the rope halter, and the stick.
5. The human works on the amount of pressure needed to get what she wants from the horse.
6. The Horse pays attention to the human's command.
7. The horse is afraid but still gives to pressure.
8. The horse understands what to do when there is pressure on the shoulders and hindquarters.
This is what I believe is great horsemanship, we want something from the horse, and we read the horse's reaction and adjust accordingly.
