    It's incredibly reassuring to see videos like this being made, that both explain vital game mechanics and give context for how they were discovered and utilised. As someone who has spent hours digging through early-00's forums for research, I know how difficult it can be to sift through hundreds of pages of clutter in search of a goldmine. Massive respect for making this video, and for making it as accessible and well-produced as it is. Hopefully it gets the views it deserves one day.

    My hands will never forget my advent on clearing Hard story mode. I got diagnosed with carpal tunnel syndrome after a month of trying really hard and then finding sneaking lmao... Then I went with another doctor just to be safe and he just told me I had "almost" destroyed some of my hand muscles but they should heal after some time. I finished F-ZERO GX tho.

    13:14 when I played this game, I set both steering and leaning to the shoulder buttons, as this gave me a much more precise steering that would help me with slippery vehicles. I then accidentally discovered snaking with this, and this input is *significantly* easier to do than the traditional way. It almost felt like cheating.

    super cool video seeing all these old chats and how people shared their experinces and times and other struff is interesting i theoretically never been part of f zero community i have only played gx as a kid like 2006... 2007... when i didnt even know english and then 2years ago i played 2weeks on gamecube and beat all the cups and most of story like 2 missions i couldnt do on hard and 4or5 on very hard and the cups i played on some custom machine w maxspeed setting. thats all my f zero gaming experience which is around 100h which is very low but at the same time its s till my absolute favorite racing game and one of my favorite games no other videogame has given me this intense feeling that GX did (maybe doom eternal did) so i dont play any of these games but i still watch aand enjoy it i listen its music i watch time attacks done by ppl and watch all these cool documentary style videos i hope we get a new f zero someday and it lives up to GX and is a good game and gets this kind of community where ppl share times and do stuff if that happens imma walk to nearest shop and go grab the game and whatever system is required to play it anyways great video looking forward to part two :)

    Just stumbled with this video, it made me recall of the hype I had reading & watching all content I could get back then from F-zero Central and GameFAQs. I got the game (and the GameCube) several years after the release, so part of the hype died at that time... Though, remembering how eager I was to get my hands into this game made me grin just as it did hearing that stuff back then 😄

    I know its old video but... Ah yeah, those techniques. That's why some noisy Japanese F-ZERO "fans" thinks F-ZERO GX is a **** and F-ZERO GX basically has mixed review in Japan. Instead of they just separate glitchless and with glitch time attack, they argued like some noisy arse and calling F-ZERO GX a **** and even insults developers. F-ZERO X also had secret techniques too, but they complains only about GX. Even though those techniques in X wasn't extreme as GX one, but still. Yes I'm native Japanese and Japanese people thinks F-ZERO GX a **** only because of snaking and flying, is just ridiculous....

    Those Japanese guys were such a snitches! How can you look at snaking and say "bug bad, it should be removed"? I'm glad they left it in for the western releases.

    Can you really call them "mechanics" when it's obviously just breaking the game in ways that's obviously not intended by the developer?

  • @vSAMGX

    @vSAMGX

    18 күн бұрын

    Well the lead developer has gone on record that many of the advanced mechanics were intended, including snaking. That said, there are a number of mechanics that I don't think were explicitly intended, but I'd still consider them a mechanic within the game

  • @astreakaito5625

    @astreakaito5625

    @@vSAMGX Looking at other arcade racers from the same studio I have an hard time believing them, to be brutally honest. There's no awkward exploits/mechanics even remotely similar to snaking or MT in say Daytona USA, Scud Race, or Outrun 2 (same devs). The staff ghosts don't use any of these techs either. And if those were intended mechanic, there's no way they would allow it to almost double the speeds like this. Great video though, I just think this game isn't anywhere close to the best Sega has done in the arcade racing genre. It might just have been one of the buggiest game they've released in arcades. Because they at least partially developed the game with wheel controls in mind, I have a feeling the physics weren't properly tested with a stick at max accel in particular.

  • @vSAMGX

    @vSAMGX

    17 күн бұрын

    @@astreakaito5625 That's fair. The developers were not very clear about the advanced techniques in the game which is bound to cause confusion. They only mentioned advanced tech like snaking in an interview and blog post back in 2003. They also didn't include any in-game tutorial or information. There's also one case of a staff ghost snaking (on meteor stream), and one case of a staff ghost shift boosting (on lateral shift), but those instances go unnoticed for the most part. Thanks for sharing your opinion and I'm glad you enjoyed the video!
