F-Zero Review and Retrospective SNES

Ойындар

I hope you enjoy this F-Zero Review and Retrospective. As important as F-Zero was to the launch of the Super Nintendo, I wasn't expecting a story with so many potential failures and setbacks. The history and development of F-Zero is full of surprises, unanticipated connections to other pop culture icons, and technological innovations.
As someone who's fascinated by history and works professionally as an educator, it is very satisfying to create videos that merge my passion for classic games with my career as a History teacher. These Retrospectives are a passion for me and it's my sincere hope that everyone who watches will have fun, reminisce, be entertained, and learn something along the way.
If you enjoyed this video please help support the channel by SHARING on social media. It’s free for you, and helps me TREMENDOUSLY! I GREATLY appreciate your support and I hope you enjoy the show!

When the snes first came out, my dad took me to a electronics shop where they had a display snes up and running. F-Zero was playing. My dad got me to try it 'i was only 7 or 8' and he was laughing and joking saying "oh you can't do it, shall we not get it" 😄 He didn't buy it while we was there, but a couple of weeks later it was Christmas day and it took pride of place under the tree as the main present for me and my brother. Happy memories ☺ My dad loved to play too! He would stop up late playing on the likes of Chrono trigger, Secret of Mana and Zelda. I think we played 80% of what games there ever was.

Wow, beautifully written and put, this is the BEST, most in-depth review for a classic racing game I've seen. I've always been curious about the history of one of my favorite SNES games, and I couldn't be happier to find out here. These videos are so full of passion for expressing the experience and the impact of these games, I can just feel it, and it's excellent in its delivery. It was fast, it was intense, it was innovative. Pure Nintendo in their glory days, and it was just another jewel in their crown for a brilliant new era for the history of gaming. This game was so much more than a "tech demo". If fact it's probably my favorite racing game on the system. It gets brutal with the Master difficulty but you have to beat it to see the true ending. I love that sound of early SNES games which all use that same drum sample and bassline for the tracks. My favorite tracks in the game are probably Big Blue and Port Town. I never knew Mute was an abbreviation for Mutant but it makes sense. I also really like the old comic book version of Captain Falcon. He looks more like a futuristic racer where as his current form makes him look more like a super hero. It's sad to see that the F-Zero series has been dormant for quite some time but hopefully Nintendo brings it back someday.

  • @NESComplex

I mastered the original F-Zero as well as X and GX for years. My favorite racing game ever, and I can play it anyday. Looking back, the first game was a total revolution; fastest supersonic racing game then and 1st futuristic, SNES launch title, and had such intense gameplay and wonderful music and this is coming from a powerful home console in 1990! I bet this game had many people dropping their jaws when it was new. I'm glad I'm not the only person who noticed the Silence track looked like a 9mm pistol! Nowadays, we need a new F-Zero, but it's so unlikely, considering flatscreen and input lag ruining reaction times.

@@Jolly-Green-Steve I don't think this is entirely true. Nintendo is one of the very few companies that still gives chances to franchises that don't sell very well for the sake of innovation, quality and fun. This isn't always the case, but even then we have to remember that companies exist to make a profit. So with that in mind, we customers are partly responsible for many good franchises dying out. Sad but true. On the other hand, Big N is very stubborn sometimes and don't seem to hear its fans out for what they really want. They often make games when and the way the feel like doing them.

Your retrospectives are really special. Something I can't find anywhere else is really putting me in that place and time, for either the NES or the SNES, they were before my time, so even with retro gaming as a passion, it's not for nostalgia for everything, but appreciation for what's come before I guess, so getting a sense for what it was really like to experience something like F-Zero and why it was so special isn't something I'd have really felt, even if I kinda understood it from an outsider point of view. I still believe we will get a follow up in the series, but each year that passes I begin to doubt. The Switch could use another solid racer in its line up.

Interestingly, Yumiko Kanki, according to her Nintendo fandom page, is credited for every single track theme in the game… except big blue, the most famous theme from the game. Ouch. Fire field was always my favorite.

I’d honestly love to see an F-Zero Collection someday soon to rejuvenate interest in this franchise, especially considering just how long it’s been since the last game; I’m more than certain the Nintendo Switch can handle a compilation of SNES/ N64/ NGC/ GBA titles under one game cartridge.

I really love your attention to detail with the music. Most of us definitely fell in love w/ SNES soundtracks, but also didn't get to fully appreciate them until several years later. Like you said, it is much more beneficial w/ a headset on. You get to hear every single note being played. So much respect for the composers of that era!

Ahh yes, F-Zero, I didn't have this one myself growing up but one of my friends did and he would bring it over quite frequently. I actually got pretty good at it then but when I got the SNES mini and sat down to play it I discovered my reaction time now isn't what it used to be back then, don't get my wrong I still play the daylights out of it, there's just a bit more cussing now when I do play it.
