My sister wrote a letter to Fonzie asking him to come to her birthday party when she was about 10 years old and Happy Days was red hot on TV. He wrote back and said "I'm sorry I can't make it to your birthday Jenny. But I would like to wish you a very Happy birthday. " signed "THE FONZ". How nice is that? Henry Winkler is awesome.

The good people at the "Carol Burnett show" were kind like that. In jr. High school I wrote to Carol and she was kind enough to write back. We were putting on a variety show & she allowed us to use scripts of Eunice & Ed which of course later became "Mama's Family" The gals on "Designing Women" were great too about writing back.

Hence the name that inspired the joke for the semi-fictitious Ron Howard on Arrested Development. His fictitious daughter, "Rebel Alley", was named for the place she was conceived like all of Ron's kids. For example his real daughter Dallas.

The writers of Happy Days wanted to develop the relationship between Richie and Potsie-and also with Richie's brother Chuck--Fonzie was just a "bit" character (he didn't even wear a leather jacket as ABC thought this would make him look like a "hood") However, Fonzie became hugely popular and then the writers focused on his relationship with Richie. Chuck ultimately was phased out altogether. The late Gary Marshall has said that people would always ask him what happened to Chuck-and his pat answer was that he took a basketball scholarship at the University of Outer Mongolia

Henry Winkler is one of the nicest actors in Hollywood or anywhere else. Mr. Winkler has been incredibly grateful for his success and has remained grounded and humble despite his notoriety. There was a story that while doing a made for TV movie in a small town near Kingston, Ontario, Canada he was having breakfast at a small restaurant near the set. He was so grateful to the people he met that he got up and washed the dishes in the kitchen--he told the manager that it was the least he could do to repay back everyone he had met

The odd thing about that was in the original script on Happy Days it said for the Fonz to go comb his hair in the mirror. Fonzie refused to do it, saying it was too cliched and uncool as if his hair was defective. So Fonz took out a comb and said "ayyy" as if it was fine. He argued that it was too cheap and cliched, beneath the Fonz , to comb his hair like a greaser in a movie. That's how invested Henry was in protecting his character's image. The director agreed with him too.

I'm so glad Henry found love. He was betrayed by his German parents as a kid. He was no good at math and dyslexic but forced to study it all the time. He fell in love with a girl as a teen and wrote her lovely letters. He was disappointed she never wrote back. Years later he went through a desk in the house looking something, and he found the letters he wrote in their stamped envelopes -- they were NEVER mailed. He gave them to his parents to mail, and they agreed to, but stuffed them in a desk. When confronted, they said they thought she would distract him from his damn math homework! Disgusting parenting. Surprised Henry turned out as well adjusted as he did.

Henry Wrinkler was in a very early 1970's movie about the 1950's with Sylvester Stallone in "The Lords Of Flatbush". He was very aware of portraying a 50's hoodlum. He looked just like Fronzie in the movie! The Lords of Flatbush (stylized onscreen as The Lord's of Flatbush) is a 1974 American drama film about street teenagers in leather jackets from the Flatbush neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York. Directed by Martin Davidson and Stephen Verona, The Lords of Flatbush is a low-budget film starring Perry King, Henry Winkler and Sylvester Stallone. Stallone was also credited with writing additional dialogue.

I have that movie in my DVD collection. I agree, Henry Winkler resembled his Fonz character in the movie. Great movie. It rivals one of my favorite movies called The Wanderers.

Michael Cooper the wanderers is great , although it’s so corny and contrived. But something about it, it’s actually quite compelling. I’ll have to the check out Lords Of Flatbush. Thanks

I absolutely love this interview! I grew up watching happy days but in the 90s when they had all the reruns on Nick at night. Even to this day I’ll watch it time to time. Anywho Henry Wrinkler is still very grateful and so endearing till this day! He’s never had fame go to his head. I’m sure the actors are just as great but I haven’t watched too many interviews with them since I’m more of a Henry fan.

Just keep your life simple & practical & you’re there. The 70s were still that way because technology hadn’t yet taken to much of our personal time up, now it’s simple: people simply spending more time with machines than people so it’s awkward.

It's interesting to watch these late night shows from the older days when you might not have been of age to see them. This show aired the same year I was born in and I only started watching Happy Days when I was 7 or something. It's funny to hear Henry Winkler say about kids back then that they have more information now, and it made me think about today and how much more information we have. Even without the help of online sources, I found myself writing on a blog once about how I grew up watching Happy Days, and after I stopped writing I would wonder why I was kept thinking of West Side Story lol I didn't know Henry Winkler had ever been in it. It was even more surprising to learn that when I saw a documentary of how Ron Howard met his wife, I realized that she beared a striking resemblance to my own mother. It was a little strange just to watch it lol But it was a nice story all the same.

So true..my opinion is season's 1 and 2 were the best..because it was a T V show..filmed in front of a live audience turned it onto a stage play..lost a lot of its charm..but somehow managed to go on for quite a few years..
