    Just found your channel and as a lawn "tragic" I am loving it! I have been binge watching anything that has reference to buffalo lawns and picked up some fantastic tips. If you are ever looking for content ideas one on mower maintenance would be great (apologies if you have already done a episode on this ) especially the issue of the merit (or not) of sharpening rotary blades.

  • @theaussielawn

    Welcome Phil glad you found the channel. Ive done a little on mower maintenance not so much on the blades But on that point in a nut shell I dont endorse sharpening Swing back blades just chuck them out every 12months but bar blades are ok to give little tickle up

    Another banger, I am really taken back by how quickly that zoysia has established. Really looks like it is enjoying it's new environment. Interested to hear your perspective on worm castings- prevention, mitigation, etc. Maybe that could be a 2022 video.......... Not that I am begging, but I sort of am.

  • @theaussielawn

    @theaussielawn

    Haha touch wood I don’t have a super bad issue with worms / worm castings, there is a chemical you can apply I vaguely remember Ben Sims used it at his old place. The issue is words are part of a healthy soil . But totally understand the worm castings can be annoying on a lawn

    Brenton, I have a pair of Sir Walter Buff lawns, now into their third/fourth year. One is very spongy and deep. I tried scalping and 2 mows a week at 20mm but the surface just kept getting higher and spongier. I saw your advice against scarifying Sir Walter. Would a machine like the Scott=Bonnar be more appropriate to bring this delinquent under control. I live on the western edge of the Barossa Valley in SA

    Hi Brenton your front yard is looking amazing the groom sure did make a difference to the cut. Great to see your Dad helping out hope his home is coming along well. The Zoysia is powering along. On a different note hope you can help me my neighbour asked me to identify a weed in his grass which I thought was winter grass which we have tried several chemicals including Poa Check over several applications but it is thriving. It is light green in colour and grows best in shaded areas but also full sun and hasn't died off at all now its summer here in Bundaberg daily temps 30+ humidity 70-80%. It also grows about 4X as fast as the Zoysia couch do you have any ideas?

    Do you recommend the groomer cartridge for regular dethatching over a verti cutter or the spring tine dethatcher? I'm trying to decide what to get for my swardman that can regularly dethatch it without causing damage.

  • @theaussielawn
