I picked this book up a few months ago on Audible and I knocked it out it in a couple of days. I think the scope of the topic, as she covers it, is well behind self-help. It really approaches grit/willpower from an academic perspective. Tom's summary is awesome; I think this man could sell me water if I was drowning. I also picked up Genius Foods by Max Lugavere and Paul Grewal; another favorite.

The talent aspect of this book reminded me of John C. Maxwell's "Talent is Never Enough" and Geoff Colvin "Talent is Overrated". Haven't read Grit yet, but it's on my list of 50 books for this year.

First watch of the book reviews. I have this one in my que. Though I totally disagree with the idea of shortcuts and excellence, though shortcuts carry risk there is also value and excellence that come from them. It's not binary. People could consider the way we do things now as standards but they are shortcuts and efficient evolutions of older ways. If shortcuts deliver results the remaining resources of time energy and focus can be reinvested and it doesn't mean there is a loss of mastery or even excellence though I get the basic idea of people failing to develop because they are looking for shortcuts. It's a whole interesting conversation. Great job BTW.

So important - grit is so critical in achieving goals! It's something I discuss in the latest video on my channel as well - defining toughness specifically, which is tied with grit, & providing a blueprint for my child on how to be tough.

Tom, the true power of books is when you combine multiple books into single book. "Connecting the dots" is important. Reading 3 books simultaneously will bring you surprising values.

Book about thinking fast and thinking slow + book about Strenght of will power and I come up with idea how implement fast thinking to influence my use of will power. And later found out more brilliant finding such as, people steal less in front of mirror, because of self awareness.
