DCoyote67 yeah-this is my go to version too! I love the album, but this one serves even more of that Velvet Underground/Sonic Youth/Jesus & Mary Chain/Dinosaur Jr/Happy Mondays/Brian Jonestown Massacre/etc realness that’s packed into the original recording. And those lyrics! Nick’s lyrics are always on point, but here he’s on fire.

God, that's what music must be. Soul, flesh, blood and some rocking facial hair!

This is what romance should be, lyrically speaking. "The Epic of Gilgamesh, A pretty little black A-line dress," this line always gets me. Seems only Nick Cave could combine those two into a coherent yet romantic concept. Brilliant.

Some days I suspect he did. Some other days, though, I just suspect that he stayed up for too many late nights, drinkin' too much whiskey and smokin' too many cigarettes. That's how you get a real rock'n' roller's yawp. I think. But you may be right. Maybe some dark night, back in the haze of his fervid youth somewhere on the outskirts of Melbourne, maybe he DID meet the devil, and make a deal with him...With Nick Cave, you can suspect anything.
