The two base potions, health and mana, are no longer in the game as of v.1.2. Instead they went a route similar to GGGs Path of Exile. Now you just have two buttons centered on the level counter on your status bar. They are also mapped to the E and R keys so you can just use your keyboard or click the two buttons on the status bar. This can be changed with keybindings, so I changed them to Q and R and I use E for the new third button between the two, the new evasion skill/ability. Unlike PoE these two potions are not attached to bottles of any kind and don't fill up with your combat actions actions; instead they now just have cooldowns. Once they're refilled you can use them again. This also applies to the evasion ability. The game is currently about to undergo another improvement with the pending release of the new expansion this year Fangs of Asterkarn which will add a new class, new factions, a new area and quests as well as new loot, etc. This is the best time to pick up Grim Dawn if you haven't already!

As a content creator myself, most of the times I find myself unable (mostly because lack of real life time) to do guides for beginners. Liked that one a lot, will recommend when someone asks me about it. Cheers.

Usually, a good way to tell the difference between a magic and rare affix is to look at how complicated the name is. Is it basic? Like charged or decaying or of thunder or of decay? Then it's magic. Is it complicated like skyfallen or magestorm or of torrents? Then its magic. Is it a single class? Shaman's xxxx or is it a combination of classes like Elementalist's xxxx? The former is magic with the latter being rare. BTW, great video with a lot of great info that will help a lot of new players

Yeah! I wish they would implement the full rainbow mod to console versions, so hard to read items without it

This video instantly made the game more fun to play since hunting good items is such a big part of the game. Also convinced me to install Rainbow Filter even though I wasn't going to use any mods. Thanks!

awsome video. I've reached the 100hrs played mark and I had no ideia how items supposed to work.. The interface for affixes are not very clear even with Rainbow filter. I had no idea that one rare affix (green) made the whole item green.. For me the item itself was rare hahah. So, great explanation, helped a lot!!!

Ty for this, I was getting really confused by what magic and rare items actually meant and this video made me realize I was looking at it from a backwards perspective where the rarity influenced the prefixes/suffixes like in other ARPGs.

The loot is why I play this over other ARPGS. It's substantial, well made, but also isn't full of random arse stats.

It makes it really hard to choose a favourite song when all the album songs are amazing ❤♠️

Arcanum Oil in Grim Dawn: I noticed that the stats on Arcanum Oil states a gain of 80% Lightning damage, 80% electrocute damage. Regarding this, thus the damage is 80%, but... of what? My weapons and ammo, nor any of my skills, do not do any lightning or electrical damage. So is the oil useless for me since +80% of nothing is still nothing? Or do I somehow gain an electrical power from the oil? Thanks for any explanation.

Can you change the color settings with the rainbow mod? I'm colorblind and can't tell the difference between the yellow/green shown in the video.

"Temporary defenses can mean the difference between living or dying" But if you knew the danger was coming wouldn't you just play differently? In what situations do people actually use the temporary potions?

do you have a video or know of a video that helps with other basics on comparing items? how to choose between higher level magic items and lower level rares? when does a higher level magic weapon better to use than a lower level rare? I just look at DPS mainly and then try and decide if the other bonuses are better

I have the same challenge with armor, a magic 115 armor boot with two bonuses versus a 37 armor rare boot 6-7 bonuses

Some magic affixes, especially prefixes like charged, which add flat lightning damage and phys to lightning conversion, are better than their rare counterparts because of how focused they are, as well as my next point. Magic affixes roll higher than rare ones, so looking at prefixes like of thunder v of of torrents: 189% lightning damage v 139%. Only rare affixes can have skill modifiers, and they usually have such a variety of things, that the additional rolls make up for the lack of power, but there are times when you would want a magic affix (charged of thunder is amazing for a primal strike character, though skyfallen of ferocity is amazing too because of the balance and total stats)

I still can't figure out why item affixes are in white or gray (shown below an item's description box) as in the video @ 3:39 with Glacial Alkamos' Sythe of Alacrity. Some of the items I already used or wielded had them and would it mean they're all "active" bonuses? Just asking for an explanation.

Itemization in Grim Dawn is so far ahead of D4 that D4 might as well be a top-down action game without the rpg.

I dont think so, other than memorizing the name of every affix 😔 most people think rainbow filter should be a part of the vanilla game, its a shame its not, especially for console players.

I will check the cheat engine today, it may be fun. My lvl is going to fast up, so enemies are more and more powerfull too.

WHAT! how are you rotating the map. I thought it was fixed. And is it normal to have a low level item so God rolled (or seems God roll to me) that it'll bring you to late game? I got this green off hand skull I got at like level three and I'm still using at 26 cuz nothing else compares to it.

Middle mouse button for me :D , and yeah it sounds like you got a monster infrequent, those all have different level versions, for example with Kyzogg's Skull which sounds like what you have, has it's level 5 version - www.grimtools.com/db/items/14073 , all the way up to a level 94 version www.grimtools.com/db/items/14080 , with more in between. Monster infrequents are some of the best items for leveling, they'll carry you until you can get the next level on elite

@@MatHEWStorm yeah that's it, but from what I remember my fire damage is %51 and other things are higher too. But yeah I can't find ANYTHING better. I went over to the trolls in the east at level 20 and was Destroying level 36 trolls with collidors tempest. When I first got the skull though I was able to spam Tempest and I don't know how I did it. Now theirs a cooldown.

yup that Kyzog's is build defining, basically is the reason i chose fire/aether. the stash is full enough to explore other builds now tho.

I have a question, what is worth, more DPS or more base damage? And how work the DPS indicator in the inventory panel? Because it shows 100-150 DPS( example) and my PJ do 59 or 70 damage per hit

As far as I know, base damage is the strongest because it'll be scaled heavily by all your percent increases from items and constellations , the DPS will increase with attack speed or cooldown reduction

@@MatHEWStorm ah. I’m so used in other games that when you level up you get new color items that are better. But I kept getting greens and sometime a blue but often the blue wasn’t better, same with some items that require way higher level but are still worse except armor. This game definitely takes some getting used to but I enjoy it more than Diablo or Path of exile because I don’t often have time to play so leagues and wipes and trading with other people. Ugh. I like this game, I’m only level 40 so far though but I’m having fun

So no mods on the Xbox which should have been added to the base game by Crate 😡👎
