Ok I can't help but correct this. The problem he solved is called the Poincare Conjecture not the "millennium prize". The "millennium prize" is the name of a group of incredibly difficult unsolved mathematics problems in which the Poincare Conjecture was one of them. They are actually referred to as "The Millennium Prize Problems" in which anyone who can solve a problem gets 1 million dollars.

This sums up what a true genius and a wise man is. He was willing to go further to where no one is unable to go just to be able to solve it for mankind for free. He has shown that not everything can be bought by money. If money and prizes solved everything, then a genius man like him won't be needed at all. This is the illness of our society, that too much materialism when he showed to the world that he could live less and be abundant in the inside.
He's not homeless. He shares an apartment with his mom in St. Petersburg and I think they're both pensioners. He doesn't have any need at all for material goods.

Noone is talking about how the 'leading' math professors from United States tried to plagiarise Perelman's work... And Perelman got really frustrated because of this... This is also why he refused the Field's Medal.
He has done his contribution to humanity and solved a very difficut mathematical problem. Now he can do qs he pleases
It is not accurate since he refused cuz a man from japan says he solve it first. At first they thought he copy the demonstration so he was blame of cheating. He get sick from the scientist community and leave everything behind. The refuse of the prize is a call for his integrity. He is in fact the greatest man on earth.

His home has barely any furniture and maybe a wooden stool. People who went to offer him the huge cash prize were shocked at his simplicity. Did he also not decline the Field medal?
Meanwhile, his poor elderly mother supports him financially.
> solves point carré conjecture > denies every prize > refuses to elaborate > lives as a homeless man GIGA CHAD
The force is strong in this guy like
He didn't want to use his mind to harm other humans. Everything is mathematics and he didn't want his conscience to marred with the burden of guilt.
The difference between him and, say, Cédric Villani is that CV sees his role as a spokesman and promoter of math, while GP is not taking on the role. Sure, some "famous" scientists get wrapped up in the fame and money, but most just see themselves as people who address the public. Einstein and von Neumann didn't ham it up, rather, were as helpful as possible in explaining their work.
Although I greatly respect his decision to refuse the accolades, etc....the mathematician in me is saddened that he abandoned all future endeavors in the discipline. Imagine just what else he could have contributed in new areas for up & coming fellow peers to delve into....we'll never know. I liken him to another great Soviet mathematician, Alexander Grothendieck who sadly went the route of self-imposed isolation despite his level of brilliance in the field. Despite it all, they are both giants in the mathematics pantheon of rare geniuses & worthy of admiration! 🤔
Interesting man.

Actually he rejected from award because not agreed with that math society, he criticized it for non professionalism. Good morning, most scientists in world also not recognize Nobel prize be similar reasons - politically motivated (but if Nobel award commission give awards to people who are agreed to get, because commission can select from a lot of inventions, in this situation they had no options, because it is incredible rare and too famous event 😂).
Beautiful!!! Don’t want to become a display scientist, but to help people.
He is not homeless. BUT we should treat homeless people better. We dont know, what problem they could help solving next...
You can be a genius and be mentally at the same time.
You got most of this wrong or confused. There are a set of millennial prizes for math problems that had not been solved. All have a $1 million dollar purse. Perelman solved one of these and composed many other math theorems of the most difficult nature. He won the Fields medal which comes with about the same prize and turned that down. The Fields is the Nobel Prize times 4. He has always had difficulty in relationships and lived with his mother in Moscow until middle age. If he is homeless it's his choice, he could go to any top university and get a few hundred thousand a year. Just has to ask.
bruh they left the info here. HE COULD HAVE BEEN RICH if his partner was also rewarded. He didn't do it alone bro. THAT'S WHAT MAKES IT MORE BEAUTIFUL

A unique man! Not a unique celebrity. Celebrity means nothing!
We don't want to admit that someone with such gifts and likely a wonderful soul that has given us, the world, so much knowledge, is also mentally ill. Logically, and mathematically speaking, there is almost no other reason for his behavior. We all know this, and we all lament it. Most of all, I'm sure, the people that love him.
